Welcome to Season 5 of the Aviva Premiership fantasty rugby game. Below are the rules of the game which must be adhered to. If there are any situations that arise in the course of the game which are not covered by the rules, a final decision will be made by the RFU (Ozzy3213) as to how the situation will be resolved.

Senior Squads wrote:
The maximum squad size is 40 senior players. If a team has more than 40 players in their squad then they will be fined £1 million per player over the permitted amounts per day for the first seven days. If after 7 consecutive days a team still has more than the permitted number of players then the team will be fined £2 million per player per day, and fined 1 league point per player per day for the next seven days. If after this time a team still has more than the permitted number of players in their squad, the RFU (me) will remove players at it’s discretion to bring them back under the permitted numbers. There will be no right of appeal to players being removed.

Be aware that all tier one international matches which are played during the season will count in the game, and players selected in the matchday 22's for those matches will not be eligible to play for their clubs on that weekend, therefore you must give due consideration to the make up of your squad.

Academy Rules wrote:
Each team will be allowed to have a listed senior academy squad of 20 players. Players who are in the senior academy must be under 22 years of age as of 1st September 2012 (therefore must have been born on or after 1st Septmber 1990). Players who are under the age of 20 (so born after 1st September 1992) AND are in the academy of the club that you are managing in real life, DO NOT need to be listed as senior academy players as part of your 20, but are available to you in this game and cannot be poached by other clubs without paying you a fee.

Should a player not listed in your 20 senior academy players, but part of the clubs academy in real life move clubs in real life, then you will have first option of promoting him to your listed senior academy. If you choose not to take this option he will become property of the club that he moves to in real life in this game.

Transfers wrote:

  • Domestic (other AP Teams)
Each team has a budget to use in the purchase of players. Domestic transfers between AP clubs, regardless of nationality of player, should be negotiated between the respective managers, and then confirmed on the Domestic Transfer Confirmation Page.

  • Domestic (Championship and below)
Each team may during the season purchase no more than 3 players from the Championship or the National Leagues. These players must be bid for on the Championship/National League bidding page, and each bid will be considered by me on it's own merits before being accepted or rejected. No bid will be accepted until a minimum of 24 hours has elapsed from the time the bid was made, in order to afford other managers the opportunity to make a counter bid.

  • Foreign
To make a foreign transfer (i.e from any club outside of the AP, regardless of whether the player is English) a bid should be made on the Foreign Transfers Page, which will be considered by me against the posted guidelines for purchase prices before being accepted or rejected. No bid will be accepted until a minimum of 24 hours has elapsed from the time the bid was made, in order to afford other managers the opportunity to make a counter bid.

Foreign transfers will unlimited during the off season and 2 during the season. The exact dates of the two transfer windows during the season is to be confirmed.

Player Releases wrote:
Managers may choose to release players from their clubs, for which they will be offered compensation

Compensation will be paid as follows

£2 million – current international (must have played international rugby in the previous 12 months)
£1.5 million – former international
£1m – top flight experience
£0.5m – other

If a released player plays in real life for a team outside of this game he will be deemed to have returned to that team. If not then he will be deemed to have signed for a Championship side. If another manager wants to pick a released player up, they will have to bid for him in the same way as for a foreign or Championship/National League player.

Retirements wrote:
There will be no compensation for retiring players. Should a player who retires decide to come out of retirement and play again, then he will automatically go back to the club who he was playing for in the game when he retired.

Fixtures wrote:
There will be 22 Aviva Premiership games per season, plus the play offs. There will also be Heineken Cup, Amlin Challenge Cup and Anglo Welsh Cup matches. These games will take place once a week. A thread will be put up for managers to name their teams on Thursdays, then on Fridays, managers will post the scores that they think will happen from these games (apart from games in which they are involved). An average of all predictions will be taken, and then 0.5 points added to each teams score for each prediction that had them as the winner, and that will then be the final score.

Teams wrote:
When naming your team, not only should you put the starting XV and replacements, but also tactics that your team will employ. Results will be affected by the tactics described.

In addition, each team must have the following:-

At least 10 England qualified players in your matchday 23, and at least 5 of those must be in your starting XV.

At least 2 props and 1 hooker on the bench.

All players must be eligible (not injured or banned).

Failure to comply with these rules will result in forfeiting the match and a 1 league point deduction.

If you fail to submit a team for a match, then the other team will be automatically awarded a 30-0 bonus point win. If both teams fail to submit a team, then it will be scored as a 0-0 draw.

Injuries and Suspensions wrote:
Injuries in this game do NOT reflect real life, they will be generated by me.

Players banned in real life will be ineligible for selection in this game for the duration of the ban.

Inclusion of injured/banned players will result in them being replaced by players on the bench, and the bench not having eight players, which may result in punishment if it concerns the front-row.

Punishment for fielding an ineligible player will be loss of one match point for a first offence, two for a second offence and so on.

Financial Rewards wrote:
There will be no rewards for the result of an individual match, instead the managers will receive cash for predicting.

£1.5m for descriptive predictions
£0.25m for scores on the doors predictions
If you fail to predict without first advising me that you are unable to do so that week, you will be fined £1m for a first offence, £2m for a second offence, £3m for a third offence etc.

Bleyendaal was really good at the JWC about 2/3 seasons ago, made things look very easy and I think is currently the leading scorer from a single tournament, but that could have also been helped by Savea scoring 2-3 tries a game in that one too!

Foloa is just a class athlete, only question mark on him is how long he will stay in union for, lot of people saying they could move him to 13 too.

Yes he is a long way behind them but he tackles and would run a tactical game better.

Don't think he has the attacking intent needed in nz rugby.

No he's very one paced, certainly no threat to Carter or Cruden/Barrett for that matter.

Not so sure if carter was injured that they would go Barrett and cruden. Could not have both of them as neither Is a controller of a game and its good to have a different option.

Same with England in that having flood and Farrell does not work. Farrell and burns on bench works much better as you can change the way you play

It's always good to have a revolving door on your bench!

Burns is so uncontrolled for me, he attacks fantastically but is just Si erratic. Crazy miss passes and chip kicks when it's just not on. I'm really unconvinced with him.

Mat here's confirmation of Donald leaving Bath.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-union/21995211

Bleyendaal is a long way behind, but can't really expect anything else when he's Carter's understudy, game time will always be limited in comparison. Hopefully for me he will continue to develop.

You need someone to change the game and burns can do that.
Likewise nz if carter is injured and they have cruden and want to close the game out with someone who can play it pragmatic and tackle there is no point in bringing on Barrett

I really like Burns, offers us something different - guess he is really still learning the ropes, but as long as his kicking from the tee stays like it is then he's easily a better option the Flood.

Think Ford going to Bath could kickstart his career from next season, really think Saints missed a trick not signing him as his game management and kicking skills (not from the tee mind!) are exactly what they are missing at the moment.

Bath could have a really good team next year, think they need a few signings in their pack and they should kick on - though maybe need another big ball carrier in their backline as Ford, Eastmond et al aren't exactly the biggest.

OC/IC - Casey Laulala (New Zealand)

Make an offer, debating to release them

Mat - Donald did have a good game, was having a chat with some friends who went to the game and they were saying how frustrating a signing he has been, as if his heads in the right place he can win a game on his own but the other times he doesn't look like he should be starting for a Championship team!

Could be a top signing. He had a medical at glos and we did not complete after it. We have done this quite a few times . Guy plays week in week out in championship and England under. 20s so does not seem to have any fitness issues.

Looks really accomplished every time I see him!

He was pretty good in the Championship XV versus the Maori earlier this year. Looks a good finisher. He wont get ahead of Varndell or Wade, but we've got very little depth in the squad outwide and will good to have a winger instead of shifting Daly out there.

Want to see whether a player we have called Tamiau kicks on, he was touted as being very good and similar to Flutey in style, but got injured badly last year and I'm not sure he's getting any game time this year.

Saints players for sale, ideally looking for a lineout forward, a centre who can play 12/13 and is available during the 6Nations.

Have some of my academy available too.

PR Logovi'i Mulipola (Samoa) (3) on loan to Wasps
LK Patricio Albacete (Argentina)
OS Julian Salvi (Australia)
FH/FB Danny Cipriani (E)
CE Ashley Beck (Wales)
WG Sitiveni Siviatu (NZ)

Mat, how has Mata'u been doing? Looks like he has been getting more starts recently but in all honesty I got him for my team as he can put in huge hits!

The North signing would be huge for Saints, gives them a very good backthree and will be great playing alongside Foden.

Alex King going there will also make a big difference, always though England should have gone for him instead of Catt.

Cole is quality.

I wouldn't say he was the finished article in the scrum but he's still great there. He just needs the LH to get parity and he generally gets on top.

Odd comparing him to Hayes.

Great replacement drew Mitchell. Unlucky with injuries but a real talent.

Hayes was such an average player the comparison is preposterous. I suppose it gets us commenting so the journo has done his job

Marler lost us Wales game.....??? We got more of a beating than the scrum.

"Marler, although excellent around the pitch, does not have a very strong scrumage technique, whereas Vunipola is powerful in the scrum and round the field but has fitness issues and cannot last a whole game at international level, which leaves Lancaster with a selection dilemma."

All papers saying North is now a done deal - amazing signing for Saints, must be increasingly worrying for the regions though that they can't keep hold of their best players.

Yeah I've seen Mata'u as mainly as a bench player, but they seem to use him really well as an impact player. Never sure whether to stick with him or look for another player as just like finding new features on RugbyDump of him smacking people around.

Probyn is my pet hate as a journo. As a player he was a liability apart from scrummaging and is now bitter the game has gone professional.

He blames scrum as source of everything

At this lions dinner we are going to on may 3rd he is one of the tables and I pity them.

We have Alan tait on ours. He usually comes across as a miserable jock but we will see,

Finally sitting down to reds vs highlanders. Genia and cooper started brilliantly.

Reds excellent in first 20. Build phases how I like to set up Quins on here. 10 stands flat and players more off the half backs.

I like Cooper attacking from 15. It works well for the Reds and he creates things from there. Generally pretty dire under high balls though!

I like it too, but commentator makes a good point of if you get turnover your playmaker is miles from the ball.

Not heard anything but wouldn't surprise me. Lawson has been ok but uninspiring, and I am not convinced he is what Brian Smith is looking for in the pack. He's quite small for a hooker and I think Smith wants to build as physical pack as he can. Mayhew in the limited game time he had for us looks to fit that bill better. I'd be pretty happy with that swap if I am honest.

Yea I'd be ok with it tbh, Mayhew is 3rd choice behind Thompson & Vickers(neither can throw), He's just never been fancied up here. Might work out well for both parties
