Wins by an innings. Empty Wins by an innings.

Post by Biltong Mon 14 Jan - 13:52

I took each of the test teams (excluding Bangladesh and Zimbabwe) last 50 tests they played to see how often do teams win or lose by an innings.

South Africa and England came out ontop as the two most ruthless when it comes to finishing off teams.

SA 13 wins by an innings - 2 losses by an innings - nett 11
England wins by an innings 12 - 3 losses by an innings - nett 8
Australia 6 wins by an innings - 4 losses by an innings - nett 2
India 6 wins by an innings - 7 losses by an innings - nett -1
Pakistan 1 win by an innings - 2 losses by an innings - nett -1
West Indies 1 win by an innings - 4 losses by an innings - nett -3
New Zealand 2 wins by an innings - 7 losses by an innings - nett -5
Sri Lanka 1 win by an innings - 6 losses by an innings - nett -5

South Africa and England are quite a margin ahead of the other teams.

Well the one crucial factor in both of South Africa and England's big innings victories has been the quality pace bowling attack of the two sides, and also Australia are starting to produce their own quality pace attack as well.

Just curious - what does it look like if you exclude innings wins against Bang and Zim from the results as well?

Ya that's true but even look at the home or away wins also. English team in Subcontinent is pathetic. All these matches that they won were played in their own favorable condition. If we leave the last year test series English team was in search of even a single win no matter how it comes and still they didn't get that.

Indian test team is facing the transition. After the retirement of Dravid and laxman, Indian middle order has sacked but they are building up and will soon be back on track. But after taking the crown English team lost their 6 out of the 8 they played. And this defeat includes the 3-0 series loss to Pakistan. Even they were bowled out for 72 chasing a mere 144 and English team was not in transition that time. Being a number 1 side the way they play the spin is just pathetic.

Ya may be Indian Team had a pathetic tour of England and aussies, but that was a bad time even England faced that losing 5-0 to Aussies in Ashes and the recovered winning the last series. The same will be with India also. They will also recover soon. And for ashwin he is new in the team. He has not played even 20 test matches. he lack's experience. No doubt Ojha bowled brilliantly but this guy is also 20 test match old. They will for sure be the next Kumble and Bhajji for India. And for the English men losing Only KP led them to lose the series against SA. Wht u wl say about this....

What do I say? Strauss should of retired after India 2011, the whole team looked tired and uninspiring in the 4 series after that in which Strauss was captain. It's no coincidence that England became a fresh and hungry team again when Cook was captain for the tour of India.

Of course it can be argued: A new captain, a new opener, a player being reintigrated, a revamped middle order. Sounds like a transition to me.

So England in transition were far better than India in transition in Indian conditions (which was part of the subcontinent last time I looked).

And yes Shanky, I would say KP_fan is back in his umpteenth guise.

Would it just be easier if we all just liked KP but hated everyone else who is highly rated for England including the coaches and former players and did our level best to put a negative spin on the teams record and players lives?
That would save anyone worrying about who is and isnt anyone else and save a lot of arguments.

I do think KP would be better off playing in the BBL than this stupid series with England B.

Folks, I've done a few checks and at this stage I don't believe the poster KP_Fan has returned with a new account.

So please lay off the accusations - if someone's logic is full of holes just point out the holes and leave it at that.
