George Ford on the move?

Just read an article in a newspaper that suggests Ford might be on the move this summer as he isn't getting enough game time.

Could this happen?

Will Tigers let it happen?

What ever happened to Georges brother? Does he still play?

Joe is the starting 10 for Leeds. So I guess no he doesn't play any more

67 points in the first 5 games of the season according to the Leeds website.

They played 10/12 when George went on loan to Leeds for a couple of games last season.

Well because he isn't playing, and one of his near contemporaries, Owen Farrell, was the England 10 when he was only 20 years of age, helped no doubt by the fact Sarries gave him some time on the pitch.

Ford needs to play to improve, not just to get the odd game when Flood is off with England. Really interesting quote from Nigel Davies about Freddie Burns:

"I have worked with a lot international 10s and he [Burns] is certainly up there that's for sure, and the fact he has been able to mature at this level for a couple of years has certainly helped him.

As I recall when Gloucester released Robinson they made a decison to made Burns first choice even though he was about 20 and had barely finished 80 minutes at senior level due to fitness issues. Look what they've both reaped from that.

On the other hand you have Clegg, who was very promising but who was never given a chance to win the shirt and who has been going rapidly backwards.

I can't see Flood being happy being shunted to 12 (and does that even make sense with Allen and Bowdon in the squad?) A decision will have to be made, and it seems to make sense that Ford moves on to somewhere where he'll be given a chance to play regularly (like Twelvetrees) rather than having to 'earn his chance' to fullfil what is obviously an outstanding talent by marking time on the bench.

This whole debate is a waste of bloomin time. Ford is going nowhere before the end of the season.

By then he will have started around a dozen games this season for the first team. He is 3 years younger than Freddie Burns who only became fisrt choice for Glaws last season, and 18 months younger than Farrell who rotates at Sarries.

At the end of the season he may move - but where? Saints are the only other sensible choice, but as someone said earlier look at their record with young FHs.


Any way why assume that Ford moves on. Flood's contract ends this season - who is to say he will not be moving on?

But Ford is being held back already!

He had a chance to break into the England team this Autumn but that’s not going to happen due to lack of game time, so you can also write of the 6 nations, he might make the summer tour but that’s a damp squib due to the Lions tour, then he might find himself waiting another year before he has a chance.

He needs to move now, I rate him higher than Flood already (but that’s not hard to do)

Players mature at different rates too. What is extraordinary about Farrell is that he has matured so fast, but then he's not exactly small. Its just a shame there are such big weaknesses in his game
