Wedge lofts.

I use Cleveland CG12 wedges. Initially I had 53 and 60 degree wedges. I then decided I needed a gap wedge but could only purchase a 50 degree CG12. Today I decided to get the loft of my 53 degree wedge changed to even out the spacing between the wedges.
On measuring the lofts, the 50 degree wedge was 49, the 53 degree was 54.5 and the 60 degree was 59. So as luck would have it, there already evenly spaced out.
Apparently club manufacturers don't guarantee the accuracy of the the loft of their clubs, so if you've bought a set of wedges with evenly spaced out lofts the chances are that some of them have a bigger or smaller gap between them than you realise.

interesting - i've 48, 52 and 56... at least i think i do

ive PW from set(not sure what loft is) and a 50 56 60.

am thinking of buying 48 and 52 vokeys and keeping my 56 and 60

i have a 48 vokey which i will probably try to get rid of, just prefer the set wedge - but need to reshaft it or commit to buying a new set.

do you find a full 48deg vokey goes much shorter than PW from a set?

maybe a wee bit - to be honest, i tend to hit an easy 9 rather than hit it full, just not that comfortable over it for some reason - then i've not been hitting any of my wedges particularly well recently.

Didn't know that 4P. Although I just had my lofts and lies checked so I know that they are as they should be.

I have a PW from my set that is 45, I have a Callaway GW that is bent to 49 from 50. I have Taylormade SW and LW which are 54 and 58 respectively. The LW is bent to 59 to keep the wedge gaps consistent.

Do many people on this board hit their wedges so consistently that 1 degree (or even 2 or 3) makes a noticeable difference?

I don't think it's about what you're saying Bob. The lofts on mine were adjusted to keep yardage gaps consistent.

My PW goes about 125, GW 115, SW 100, and LW 85. Now if I happen to miss hit one then the yardage can vary tremendously

Yeah but if you'd left the GW at 50 degrees would you really hit it something other than 115 and if you did.. say 110 would that really matter. You currently have to manufacture a shot with your PW for anything over 115 anyway?

EDIT: I guess I mean for me, I wouldn't see 59 verus 60 degrees as making a material difference with all the other vairables

I'm pretty sure that someone would tell them if their wedges weren't ostensibly what they say they are.

It's all very well worrying about the lofts, but most people find that speciality wedges like Vokeys don't go nearly as far as a wedge that is part of a set, assuming they have the same loft. The right way to buy them is to work out what yardage you want to hit it, then try a few to see which go the right distance, then buy the one you like most. Ignore the stated loft if it goes the right distance.

I have the new Vokey's at 48 52 56 60 and took out the standard set wedge.

Following the post, I might get them measured. As they're all new this year they shouldn't have deformed much (if any) in theory so it'd be interesting to see how close they are to the numbers on the bottom of the club.

I had noticed that the 48 goes less distance than the old Bridgestone J37 (which I think was 47), by about 5 yards (which would be consistent with the OP if say the loft was out on either by 1deg. I've just adjusted what club I hit when. I can miss the green whatever bat I hold!!!

have a vokey gap 52, a Cleveland classic 58 swith bounce SW, and a titleist vokey 60 lob wedge.

Pitches are never full shots for me- It would be lovely to just be able to hit full shots for pitches all the time, but its all about feel and conditions and visulualisng for pitching. Not sure if thats the perfect approach , but there you go.. I am not the sort of player that tries to leave myself a perfect pitching yardage..

My 52 wedge is one of my favourite clubs, can play so many different types of shot with it. I actually feel I could teach Westwood a thing or two about the short game it's that reliable.

Ditto my Vokey 52°, become my favourite club in the bag recently.
