Fighting Fantasy

I was just thinking about the books I read as a child, and it took me back to a childhood fascination with the Fighting Fantasy series.

I bought the Warlock of Firetop Mountain and was instantly hooked. Dozens of books later and my collection started to peter out as I got older.

However, this has got me thinking that I might have to go to the bookshop:

So who else read these and which was your favourite?

From the original series, the ones that I remember fondly were Forest of Doom and City of Thieves.

The first one I ever bought was Caverns of the Snow Witch (from a school book club). I then bought them up to about number 40, but felt they tailed off after the first 25 or so

My favourites were probably Deathtrap Dungeon, House of Hell and City of Thieves. Sword of the Samurai and Creature of Havoc were good for later ones. I generally preferred the fantasy ones rather than the sci-fi/futurist themes.

Check out this blog. It's hilarious. The author has played through the first 11 so far.

I haven't read many Fighting Fantasy books as I collected Joe Denver's Lone Wolf series which I loved and have found a site that lets you read/play them online (http://www.projectaon.org/en/Main/Home)

My fave was one called Robot Commando (number 22) as it was their attempt at Transformers in the series. Also loved the Sorcery collection that they released.

Deathtrap dungeon was very good.

Also really enjoyed Armies of Death, The Keep of the Lich Lord and Stealer of Souls.

Yeah, and the cover had robots AND dinosaurs!
