Absolutely fantastic SJ, great night to be british! Cant decide between the 3, maybe at a push mo! But rutherford also great as his was the most unlikely gold of the 3! Cant wait for tomorrow night!

Indeed Ifc91 - what an awesome night to be British!! Just couldn't do better! So much so, the women's 100m final became an unfortunate anti-climax!

Jess Ennis held herself together brilliantly! That start to the event, with the Hurdles, was and remains, phenomenal! I still can't believe it
Scoring 6955 points, she goes 5th on the all time list. She will exceed 7, 000 points eventually. Honestly believe she can get to 7, 100points.

Greg Rutherford did what he needed to. Could've gone further - by his own admission - but the wind was always against him.
8.31 into headwind isn't bad at all. He can only grow from this - looking forward to seeing what he produces over the few years.

MoFarah. What is it with Mo?! Watching him is race is hard work! There was a time that a 5, 000 or 10, 000m race might be a bit tedious to
watch. Not any more. Perhaps it's because we have a genuine prospect going into them these days In the final, Mo had his plan. He waited and waited until he needed to kick and when he kicked, he made it count. Just a thrill to watch. Mo's made these longer distance events so watchable!!

I also thought Ohurugu was great! Really gavce a herself a fighting chance of defending her title. Good on her

And yes - tomorrow night is going to be awesome. I would just love it [ to use Kevin Keegan's words ] if we could get an athlete into that men's 100m final

Well as a Jamaican it has to be Shelly-ann Fraser winning the womens 100m.

But nationalistics loyalty aside , I must say that the highlight of the olympics is Jess and Mo winning their respective events not forgetting Rutherford.

Jess and Mo winning is up there with the greatest olympics moments of all time; including Cathy Freeman on home turf in 2000.

Its a tie between Jess and Mo for me.

The greatest moment of the games is when Mo meets his family on the track. Priceless.

Who would have thought that Gb would be leading the medal table in athletics.

3 gold with 2 other possibles in the 5000 and the high jump.

Brilliant day of athletics, the olympics has now arrived. no disrepect to the rowers and cyclist. But these will be the moments of the game.

Jist seeing dai greenes lane draw for the final tomorrow, excellant draw considering! In my mind lane 4 is the best for any 400m/400h race so to be in 3 puts him right back in the mix. Think it could take a new british record just to medal though!

Completely agree IFc91. Dai Greene is very fortunate [ as I'm sure he is aware ]. We could see the state he was in following his semi yesterday [ surprised they try to get interviews out of athletes in that kind of situation - seems there's no tact in broadcasting ]. He was shaking during his interview with the Beeb!

At one point, he's thinking he out of the Olympics; next, he qualifies as the slowest of the two fastest losers, and gets what is actually a very good lane draw!

He is a lucky man

So close for Gemili - so close. Right from the gun, could see that his start wasn't there. He rose on the 'set' later than the others. So came out of the blocks slower when the gun went off.

He nearly did it!!! So close! Had he got the start he wanted - and he's gotten good starts in other races - he would've have hone sub10 here! Certain of it!

Both DC and gemmili within 3/4 hundredths of the final, cant complain to much. Bodes well for our relay team though having 3 men capable of 10.1 or lower. Whos everyones picks for 100m title? Im going to stick with bolt but could see it going to anyone realy!

Heya Ifc91 - true regarding DC and Gemili. Chambers got out really well,held well to 60m, but didn't have the staying power in the last 30 - 40m. It was their in his hands!

As for Gemili - he really did have shot at getting into the final. You could see the disappointment in his interview.

In the final, Bolt is still the man to beat for me. Top 3 will likely be Bolt, Blake and [ I hope ] Gay. Powell will probably come 6th [ can't believe how he bottled it in the semi and had to come through as a featest loser ]. The weather seems to be holding out. We could see quite a remarkable set of times

British men's 400m is struggling at the moment. Enjoyed Conrad Williams' gutsy effort and respect his attitude [ i.e. his interview ]. He knew the issues and his limitations - but at least he went for it.

But there seems to be no real edge or competitiveness amongst British men's 400m ranks, which is massively dissappointing.

We needs to pull our socksies up here

Agree with much of that - at least Williams looked like he cared and made a real effort to be involved in the race at 300, but just didn't have the strength to hold on. Rooney was just a disappointment, as he's easily a sub 45 runner at his best, and that would have seen him easily into the final.

Terrific silver medal for Christine O after all the difficulties she's had in the run up to the games. Only question given how strongly she finished is could she have been in closer contention at 300 and actually defended her title? Her interview comments suggest she thought she could have done it.

Agree regarding Christine's performance. She did extremely well. She was close. May have needed to kick literally 10 metres earlier perhaps to give herself that genuin e shot - but she ran out of track while Sanya Richards-Ross was running out of steam. Agonsingly close

Given where she's been over the last few years - with injuries and desparate loss of form - this season has seen a superb return for Christine! Well done to her! She's 28 at the moment [ seems like she's been around a lot longer to be frank! ]. She has probably another couple of World Championships left, if she wants to keep going - and will be 32 by the time of Rio. It is possible

Monday 6th August Mixed day's yesterday in the Athletics. Some encouraging results in places, and some heavy dissappointments too.

Men's 400m Hurdles Final

Dai Greene just not fit enough. Not enough in the tank.

Think he will learn from this. Including the off-track mind games. Recent articles and news discussed the edge between him and soem of this competitors. Even his 'arrogance'. He's got to remember that he is some way from being able to be considered up there amongst the greatest. Until perhaps conserve that energy and keep focused.

Great result however regarding Felix Sanchez's win. As quoted on a number of occasions, his 2nd Olympic title, coming 8 years after his first. And we could see what it meant to him

Women's 400m Hurdles Semi Finals

Sad to see Perri Shakes-Drayton go out. She will have had high expectations. Not making the final will be a massive dissappointment [ only running 55.19 in her semi is disaapointing - as she herself has said ]. Learning curve there for her. Can see how she can grow from this.

Solid effort from Elidh Child. But was really up against it.
Women's Pole Vault

Holly Bleasdale is a phenomenal talent. But she is inexperienced and fragile. Falling out of the reckoning very early on in the final[ only managing 4.45m ]. She has struggled with the occasion before. But she has high expectations and is remarkable talent.

The final was not a classic by a long stretch, with the wining height 4.75, and early failures and exits of a number of atheltes shaping how the quickly the final woudl play out.
Women's 1500m Heats
Great Heats for Great Britain. All three British athletes through to the semis - DOBRISKEY Lisa, ENGLAND Hannah, and WEIGHTMAN Laura

But Semis are going to be very tough indeed!!

Women's 200m Round 1

ADEOYE Margaret through in a PB.Well done to her! OYEPITAN Abiodun through as well as a featest loser. She came into these Olympics in some reasonable form [ though there might have been a fitness scare month before commencement of the games ].

Men's 400m Final

Great run from Kirani James, who demonstartes his overwhelming dominance in the event. Running a sub44 time - a PB and National Record of 43.94.

Worrying however, that no British athletes were in that final. Mind you, no American athletes in there too!

Pretty disappointing for GB this morning. Typical for the only day I get to go to the stadium.

Phillips must have been carrying an injury, as were Sayers and Pozzi. 3 potential medalists who didn't even reach the final. Ellington was also way off his best in the 200m. That was on top of last night's disappointments so it's going to be difficult for the team to reach its total number of medals (8) target.

Nice to see Blesdale PB in the 5000m. She really attacked the event and deservedly won a place in the final (along with Pavey).

Good runs also by Clarke and Turner in the 110m hurdles. Both will need to raise the level to get into the Final.

What other possible medals do you think GB could win? Of the top of my head id say mo in the 5000m, porter with an outside chance in the hurdles? Maybe an outside chance of a relay gold...

Good bets: Mo and Grabartz.

Outside bets: Proctor, Porter, Okoye, one of 3 1500m ladies

Other (remote) possibles: Clarke, Osagie, Lewis, Sharp, men's 4X100m and women's 4x400m.

Forgot about grabbaz! Theres definatley medals to be won, i think we will get 3 more.

Men's 110m Hurdles

Well done to Lawrence Clarke - amazing performances today Got into the final with a PB, and then fights to get 4th in the fina. And you could see that he fought hard - in both races. Superb

Women's 1500m Semi-Final

Great to see both Dobriskey and Weightman get into the final. Dobriskey really looking good - but how will things play in the final?!

Regardless - great to see two of our athletes in the Women's 1500m final!

Men's 200m Semi-finals

Blake looking good. But Bolt looked awesome! Bolt still the man to beat - and will take it. Would need something daft to happen for him not to!

Shame about British 200m running. Ellington showed poorly. Looks like he did his best at the trials! Christian Malcolm did well. 3rd in his semi. But not enough to qualify for the final. Malcolm's been holding the fort for so long over the 200m. We need fresh legs and fresh talent. Worth stating that Gemili is good over the 200m, but hasn't run it enough, and in the right conditions, to demonstrate what he can do.

Yes, there were some good performances.

Disappointing to see Proctor go out. She had a better jump in her but nerves must have got to her.

Although we had that terrific start with 3 Golds there has not been a lot to cheer since then. We might struggle now to reach the 8 medals target.

A lot of walking wounded and many others with stage fright. London despite all that support hasn't got the best out of a lot of the team.

The headline might now still look good but under the surface things are not so great.

I'd agree completely.

Mixed bag of some great performances and lots of missed opportunities [ both stage fright and walking wounded ].

Biggest disappointments for me have been Idowu, Ellington, Rooney, Shakes-Drayton, Baddely, Porter etc

There are others who haven't done great, but don't deserve to be put in the bracket of 'disappointment'...

Aside from the medal winners, highlights have been Clarke in the hurdles, getting two women into the 1500 final, getting three men into the men's 100m semis [ and two of them getting close ], Hitchen in the women's hammer, and Osagie in the 800m.

But not too much more to shout about

Is the World Record on for Bolt in the 200m?!

Bolt ran 9.63 in the 100m final. He himself says that his start wasn't great - that he sat back a little on the start. He was clearly being careful following last year's DQ in Daegu.

That cautious start prevented him from getting closer to the world record. He was only 0.05 out to begin with. A sharper start would've seen him very close to the world record.

He is in very good form. Has gotten over his initial fitness worries, with him retaining the men's 100m title giving him lots of confidence. ]

Because he rested himself before the Olympics to concentrate on being at his best in London, he arrived fresh, and is growing race by race - effectively getting fitter and sharper with each run.

He may get very close to the world record. And with Blake chasing him, it's a realistic possibility he could break it. Let's hope they have a tailwind

Good to hear from you Ifc91.

I have Bolt down to beat Blake by at least 2 tenths! If Blake goes under the current world record of 19.19, then Bolt will go under 19 seconds

Wasn't going to say it - but it is realistic. Bolt is looking fresh! The time-out he had prior to Olympics has really helped him. he's getting sharper and fitter with every race. In his semi, it seemed like he jogged more than half the race.

Bolt in his interview, following his semi, just came out with it. He expects to win. He is confident. Even when he was confident in previous years, he was never that up-front! At 25, he is in the peak of his life.

I suspect Blake feels he's not going to take gold - although he'll give it a go. Bolt was cautious his 100 with his start. If Bolt is in reasonable condition, then starts aren't an issue. He can make up the ground - even with the likes of Blake, Gay, Gatlin etc. Over the 200m - starts for Bolt even less an issue, as there's plenty of time for any lost ground to be made up [ although, naturally, the better the start, the better time he will set ]. By the way, Bolt set the current world record while running into a -0.3 m per sec headwind! And he said he was tired!

Women's 200m Final

Great win for Alyson Felix. Certainly the favourite for many by some way.

Could've have gone a little faster but was unfortunately running into a marginal headwind of -0.2 [ both the men's and women's 100m finals were run with a tailwind of +1.5m per sec. ].

[ Some talk of Felix possibly one day taking on Flo-Jo's world record over the 200m of 21.33. And although of the two - the 100 and the 200 - the 200m is 'weaker' time [ so to speak ], it is out of the reach of any woman presently running. No one else, other than Flo-Jo, has ever gone faster than 21.6. No one other woman has run in the 21.5's - or the 21.4's. Doesn't mean to say a Bolt-like female sprinter won't emerge. In which case, the 200m WR is on - but not the 100m! In the 100m, running below 11 is world class; running below 10.80 is absolute elite class; runnning below 10.50 is in the men's class! ]

Men's 110m Hurdles Final

Merritt deserving winner. He could take the world record to low 12.8's. But really has to break out of comfort zone that sees him regularly knock out times in the 12.92 - 12.94 region. Worth pointing out though, that he ran his PB of 12.92 in the final while running into a slight headwind!

Well SJ if anyone is going to go under 19 seconds it will be bolt, just think, 5 years ago it would have been ludacris to even think about sub 19! Should be a cracking final, i can see 5 men under 20!

Will be interesting to see how Christophe Lemaitre figures. He's put his eggs into one 200m basket. All or nothing.

He's capable of getting near the European record in the right conditions [ Mennea's 19.72 ]. But he's clearly on the prowl for a medal, not a fast time [ although may require a super fast time for bronze even ]. Not much chance the Gold and Silver - will he get that look in on the bronze?!

We're definitely into a new era. You got to run sub 9.8 to get bronze in the 100m. And if Gay was fit and in the 200m final, then probably sub 19.60 for the bronze. As it is, Bronze is up for grabs.

3. Lemaitre?
4. Martina?
5. Spearman?
6. Weir?

Will be close between Spearman, Martina and Lemaitre. But Lemaitre for me is the hungrier and the more deperate of the three.

Can agree about blake EO, but come on has there ever been another elite sprinter with bolts height/general phisique? Think thats what makes him unique.

What Bolt is achieving is not out of the blue; he holds the world junior 200m record at 19.93 - which he set when 17.

Great end to Today's athletics. Highlight, Rudisha breaking world record in the 800m.

Men's 800m

Unheard of - you do not break a world record - whether planned or unplanned - in any track event above 400m at the Olympics or World's. Completely unheard of [ Intending to do so, way too risky! ]

Second place guy ends up equalling Seb previous world record time, PB's almost all the way across the entire field!

Men's 200m final

Awesome and a lot tighter than I thought it would be [ 0.12 separating Bolt and Blake ]. Bolt poured it on going through the bend. Came off it spent. Bolt not as fit [ by his own addmission ]. Blake worked hard and had Bolt worried. Great from Weir too - 19.84!

Post race interviewing terrible; BBC need to show some respect to athletes, even if athletes have been made slaves to the media. Jamaican athletes made to give interviews while the National Anthem of Kenya being played for Rudisha; the Jamaicans were trying to give due credit, recognition and kudos to Rudisha and the other athletes. BBC all over the place. Need to get things into perspective a little...

Osagie posted a great pb of 1.43ish aswell and finished last! :-o Think osagie has a good career ahead and nice to see a brit going sub 1.44 in the 800.
