French Open 2012 - Day 2 Empty French Open 2012 - Day 2

Post by Guest Mon 28 May 2012, 8:36 am

Well it is certainly cream of the crop on today.

Federer, Djokovic, Hewitt, Davydenko, Haas all in action.

Defending champion Li Na in action and as is Britain's Laura Robson.

Upsets?

Bellucci over Troicki, Hidalgo over Raonic and maybe Goffin over Stepanek.

What are people making over ITV's coverage?

Hidalgo could take out Raonic...it'll be hot work out there today and Milos isn't physically up to the rest of the top 20 players yet I'd say.
As you said I'd fancy (...lol) Cirstea to take out Li Na.

Jim Courier offered some good commentary...better than Reed on Eurosport! And Petchy is always good value...they were discussing ball size, court speed, strength, stamina, variation on tour, etc...Petchy isn't afraid to bring up a variety of topics...Courier neither. Been good so far IMO.

Why has Federer been put on Suzanne Lenglen? Won't it cause lots of undignified jostling as people exit Philippe Chatrier and try and get a seat?

Lopez pulls out against Serra.

Robson has lost the first set in her match. Sad

Not the most positive start for the day.

More on Feliciano Lopez's retirement from the French Open.

The 15th seed, who pulled a muscle while practicing at Roland Garros on Thursday, quit because of a side muscle injury.

"In the beginning, I felt it was nothing really serious, but (the) day after, I couldn't play almost," said Lopez. "I tried to rest during the weekend just to try to play today, but it was impossible."

If you were a LL, you would be fuming at such a statement.

The RG running scores has Fed a set down - but surely they have not started yet. What's going on?

Can someone PLEASE clear this up. Running scores had Fed losing first set 6-2 and then 5-2 up in the second. Now the scores show Fed WINNING the first set 6-2. So WTF's going on?:

Ah , thanks for that. Don't know what the RG score was playing at. Mind you the "real" match appears far from plain sailing for Rog who just needs this win to have secured more singles victories in GS than anyone else.

Fed breaks again, 6:5. He doesn't seem to be moving very well, thought these first matches he likes to test things around.

The court/balls are slow, but not as slow as RG can be, might be wrong.

Sloppy play from Fed, been broken rather carelessly, intensity has dropped from Fed. He's lucky he's got the double break!

Djokovic and Cirstea decide to tango at the net, Djokovic prevails though when the back-pedalling 30-year-old plonks his riposte into the net. The world number 97-year-old holding his own against the planet's finest as it's still with serve at 3-3. By the way, Roger Federer first-round win means he has equalled Jimmy Connors's record of 233 Grand Slam match victories

The BBC yet again with cutting edge reporting. Quote a stunning fact with Federer and balls up the article with such a basic error.

I am wondering if they have hired Cowan in secret? chin

They're all pretty good, except Castle, Perchey & others can sometimes be too gushing over Federer. Even more do if they're interviewing Federer...but then at those times I either put the mute on or change the channel.

I suppose I shouldn't really have said that since this is obviously a very pro & partisan Federer site.

You have to say that if Goffin comes through against Stepanek that Federer's half starts to look very nice for the 16 time Slam champion.

Djokovic possibly looking at a 4th round match with Verdasco. Again his section has opened up nicely.

Less of that. There are people here who think Dolgopolov has more chance to win a slam than Murray. censored

So how does that make him a better prospect to win a slam than a serial slam semi-finalist and slam finalist. Whistle

He has time on his side to improve consistency. I wouldn't class him as a better prospect than Murray at this moment in time, but if he makes improvements....
