Who will finish the season in 6th?
We know the teams going down but who will win the battle for 6th place?
Last weekend Wycombe, Chesterfield and Exeter joined Rochdale in knowing that their fates were sealed and they would be playing in League Two next year, but the fight for the final playoff spot is still alive (as is the battle between both Sheffield teams for second place).
Currently Stevenage are 6th with 70 points and a goal difference of +22 a win almost certainly guarantees them a spot in the playoffs.
Notts County are 7th also with 70 points but a worse goal difference of only +9 means they must win if Stevenage win and somehow score 14 goals more, or draw and rely on Stevenage to lose and Carlisle to lose or draw.
Carlisle United are 8th with 69 points and a goal difference of 0, they have a long shot but it requires them winning and Stevenage and Notts County drawing or it requires them drawing and both the other teams losing in humiliating fashion.
All three will play teams (Bury, Colchester, Oldham) with nothing overly important to play for apart from maybe a slightly boosted end of season bonus.
So who do you think will end up getting the sixth spot and earn themselves a place in the playoffs and a shot at the Championship?

I'm plumping for Stevenage simply because if they play anywhere near the level they did at Sheffield Utd last week they'll beat Bury. That was a fantastic match by the way and a great advert.
And how far have they come in the last few years? I remember them being denied promotion from the Conference due to their crumbling stadium and here they are just a few good results from the Championship. Amazing.

I went for Stevenage too, simply because I think they should beat Bury and even if Notts County win they just won't score that many goals to get past on goal difference. Would love it to be Carlisle but it's been another season with good progress made so can't really complain about finishing 8th, hope Abbott can continue to work wonders with the tiny budget.

Would Stevenage be allowed to play in the Championship if they were to be promoted? Their stadium still looks like a typical non-league ground, and would be way out of place when compared with the facitities of most of the Championship sides.

I thought you got three years from promotion out of League One to the Championship to update your stadium? That way teams who probably won't stay up don't have to spend money they can't really afford to spend.dummy_half wrote:Would Stevenage be allowed to play in the Championship if they were to be promoted? So far not looking good for Carlisle's chanches as they're currently 0-0 with Oldham and both Notts County and Stevenage are winning.
