Haven't got around to watching the 3rd episode yet but the first two were fantastic.
Well paced, good acting (Damien Lewis has been great), interesting plot and a couple of hot women.
What more could you want?!?!

Great show !
Amazingly cleverly plotted to finish the series and yet somehow leave it open for a second series.
Will say no more as it seems you in the UK haven't seen the last few episodes yet...

Re: Homeland
A friend told me about this, I watched the first episode thinking it was a short series which was good, It struck me as a revamped Manchurian Candidate since then I haven't watch any more.
I can' t watch anything that lasts any more than a couple of episodes, I just lose track of things and forget to watch it.

I watched the first episode of homeland last night, looks like it could be a good series, Brody seems to be intrigueing, and Mathison seems to be a little obsessive and paranoid.

Re: Homeland
I'm actually disappointed to hear they are making another series, it usually is always due to the success of the first series and a money making exercise to keep the story going even further. I'm not being negative but you can already tell they are dragging out the story and making the middle part of the series a long drawn out process with pointless side stories or unneccessarily long narrative. Homeland started brilliantly but alot of the middle episodes are quite slow for my liking until a quick-fire last ten minutes divulges new information just to keep you intrigued and interested.
I'm still watching the series with interest, however I can already see the ending of season one being poor with no real answers, just so we have to endure a long wait while they come up with some farsical storyline in series 2

I've been a little dissapointed with it (yet at the same time I've watched every episode so far :S). It seems to promise so much "in the next episode" then just trundles along keeping me just about interested then ends. I'm pi**ed if this goes on for another series, think I won't bother with it.

Re: Homeland
I never watch what's coming up on next week it shows you half the show, i watch Ramsey Kitchen Nightmares USA and that basically shows you the whole show at the start, then when it goes for a break it shows you nearly all what will happen when it comes back after the break, then when it comes back it shows you everything you've just watched before the break, like your Flip stupid and have forgot it all. Out of a 40 minute show there's probably 20 mins film time. Stick with Homeland, it drags a bit but i'll be tuning in for another season.

- Spoiler:
- Great finale, hindered by the need for a 2nd series. I think bitter-sweet vindication for Carrie would have been a better ending and not bothered with a 2nd series. Money though I guess - and I'll definitely be watching it. I think its set up perfectly.

Re: Homeland
I felt they focused too much on setting up a second season, and it felt a little but dragged out, especially the numerous attempts to detonate. Didn't like the ending, I think the whole series deserved a cliffhanger rather than a cruddy ending.

Re: Homeland
Basic sum up.
1. Series began amazing.
2. After the initial great start, basically they threw in a haul of sex scenes to keep people interested
3. After about 7 or 8th episode they began to become long, boring drawn out episodes with long dialogue and pointless scenes with a quickfire 5 minutes at the end to keep you intrigued
4. Nearing the end (and after a great reception in the US got granted a second series and was then all a money making exercise). Rushed ending which should of ended with him blowing up the VP in the bunker and them all admitting Carrie was right.
5. Now we are currently back to square one, although brody's position is now further enhanced among the political scene. I'm sure it will be a long drawn out series to come with carrrie's recovery and the fact she's knows brody knew about the bombings and then Abu Nazir will contact brody to carry out another mission on the VP.
The thing which annoyed me was that last night was so obvious that he wasnt going to blow them up due to the knowledge we all had of the second series. They were never going to kill damien lewis the main actor in such a successful series.

I agree, John, he should've blown it up. I think having Saul betray Carrie was pointless as well. All these people screw her over and she's still their best mate!?

Re: Homeland
I've read a few interviews about season 2 from Alex Gansa the producer and it looks like Mike is going to play a bigger role and Carrie goes rogue in attempting to gain more information about Brody. Should be interesting but apparently not going to be shown until September

I love it when people run down one of the best shows and episodes (the ending.) The script is fantastic. It's weighty, well paced and tense. These scriptwriters are professionals, people who have spent years studying and breaking down some of the greatest texts in the English langauge at fine colleges. They are producing what in context of most of what is on television, art, and yet some people would have ended this way and that way. Just appreciate and debate the issues!

Welcome to the board!
Thanks for putting us all right, but FYI, we were debating, and the issue we were debating were our feelings towards how the series ended. If we just accepted it, moved on and continued on with our lives then this place would never exist.

Re: Homeland
Thanks for the welcome!
I appreciate that we all love to debate such shows but we cannot contextualise the ending due to the fact that a second series is planned. Until the script is laid out as a whole it is going to be impossible to judge whether the ending worked or not.
I love to debate these things but some people don't appreciate that questions unanswered for example is a good way of making things realistic and interesting. For example. The slipping of the razor blade to the prisoner. It could have been Brody, it could have been Estes. My friend simply has to know and when it wasn't answered he went mad over it. Personally I hope it doesn't get answered. Some things are better left...

Exactly. Also why would we 'run down' a great show? I have loved Homeland and is the reason I've watched it for the last 13 weeks, however once the show was granted a second series, you can tell the show's episodes altered in terms of direction.

I'm not entirely sure about the date, however I've seen a web article dated, October 26th 2011 - confirming the second series of Homeland. Therefore it must of been in the pipeline or considered before that.

I really enjoyed 'Homeland' and thought Clare Danes was fantastic in it and worthy of the recognition she has recieved.
I do understand certain peoples gripes about the ending and the direction it went in but from a studios point of view sometimes the overall concept is compromised for money.

As much as I loved the first season, really thought it should have ended in him blowing everyone up in that bunker. Glad it's back though and will be interesting to see how the story unfolds.

Re: Homeland
I'm glad with this one that we're actually going to see a proper ending. Am I right in saying that they only ever planned on doing two series of it?
It's something that always bugs me with US TV series' is that they always plan on having at least one more series, and then they get cancelled with more questions than answers.
Maybe I'm still a bit bugged about the time I wasted on Alcatraz and have always been annoyed about only having one series of Rubicon.

I remember when Rubicon first came out but I didn't get it, gutted if there is only two seasons but I suppose there's got to be an end to his plans and is better than being cancelled halfway through.

I think that's what Damian Lewis said when he was on Graham Norton, although he might have meant that he's only doing two series of it.
The 4400 was another one that killed me. I know they did 4 seasons of that one, but they finished that one just as things actually got moving.

Re: Homeland
Like the American version of the Killing this would bets have been left as one series anyway. The longer these things drag on the more convoluted and ridiculous they become, and the more they just seem to repeat.
Certainly more than two, unless youre going to move on to a new story and set of characters with some crossover would get painful.
This show works on its unpredictability, the longer it goes on the more predictable it becomes.

Homeland ending after 2 seasons would be good, no point dragging it out any longer.
