Some of you may remember the controversy over Bees Roux, the South African prop who was accused of killing a policeman after he was pulled over for drink driving. Well, the case has been heard and judged.

Roux, who plays for the Blue Bulls, was tried for murder but did not plead guilty to a murder charge as he said he was defending himself against theft and attempted robbery. He was found guilty of culpable homicide; he struck a plea bargain. He was sentenced to five years imprisonment with a conditional suspended sentence of five years. The condition was that he pay the widow of the deceased 750k Rand (about £65000) and he leaves the court as a free man.

The sentence was handed down with the approval of the family of the deceased.

Theres a big chunk of that story missing wher they explain how a policeman pulling him over for drink driving became an attempt to rob him

Two possible explantions:
1) Hes bought and lied his way out of a murder charge
2) He was the victim of a corrupt cop

I assume this has been big nws in SAfrica?

Big story yep.

There's no reason why both of your explanations can't be true. A corrupt cop in South Africa wouldn't be the most shocking thing in the world.
