Club Charity Days

Mrs Doc has been given the task of organising our club charity days and other social events - because she's fun We've all been involved in these days and contributed to some obscure charities we've never heard of before. No doubt all deserving. For a change this year we are doing one for HELP THE HEROES, so expect to see a full turn out and much cash raised.

One idea I had, which has been assisted with a couple of ideas by LJ and Davie: Players can purchase using different tee boxes.

1) Male players can purchase the yellow tee for £1 or the red tee for £2 on any hole.

2) lady players can upgrade to yellow tees for £1 and white tees for £2 on any hole, they will recieve an extra stroke for the yellow and 2 extra strokes for the white tee.

The club professional and volunteer Cat 1 players to be placed strategically around the course at optimum card-wreck positions. Competitors can ask one of these players to take their next shot, at a cost of £1.

Any more good ideas appreciated. This is not a QC event and is all about having fun, and maybe seeing someone unexpected pick up the trophy.

How about the ability to purchase a set number of mulligans to be used at the players discretion. Say a fiver a mulligan as they are pretty good at changing the score!

No more than 3 per player allowed however.

I like the idea of good juniors (if you have enough at your club) taking the shots on the card wrecking holes. Apart from anything else, if the entry for these charity days is popular enough, the places may be taken up by adult members (at my club, the juniors only get into certain competitions if there are spaces available), so if the entry list is full, it gives a good chance for the juniors to feel included on the day

If the Pro or assistants want to get involved, have them do a beat the pro contest on one of the par 3s.

last charity event I played in, I think the beat the pro was a fiver to enter. Cat1 players were given evens on beating him, Cat two were given 2-1 odds and cat3 and above were given 3-1. The pro himself underwrote this in the event of that particular contest losing money (more payouts than income) as part of his contribution to the charity. I think the pro would hve to have a seriously bad day to make a loss over the day (though there were also people selling glasses of Pimms on that hole and I think one of the assistants who shared the duties was a little tired and emotional by the end of the day which may have lessened the profit for the day)

How about a raffle to win a car at a tenner a ticket with the prize being a tonka toy?

You could set up a shot bar at the 9th dispensing a shot of your favourite tipple for £2 a pop.

Vimto can be sold for non drinkers.

£5 to retake a teeshot?

If there's a hole with water, it's always a good idea to offer a mulligan for £2 or so, to encourage people to go for it. If they go in the water, then they pay to get another shot.

Also, offer a bet for them on par 3s. Double their stake if they hit the green - assuming the players are the usual club mix, and the hole is more than 160 yards, 75% will miss.

Send everyone you know an individual invitation. Then based on how wealthy they are set a different entry fees.

The string game is a good one. Charge per 1ft of string, you can move you ball into the hole, out of a bunker, from behind a tree etc without recording a shot but the distance you move the ball (say 8 inches for a tap in) you cut off the string until you have no string left. You could sell a maximum of 9ft on the 1st tee (say 50p per ft), then charge £1 or £2 per ft for another maximum of 9ft on the 10th tee when people are more desperate...

First of all let me commend you for choosing help for heroes a charity close to my heart indeed. How about a variation on the yellow ball game. Whereby in your fourballs there is 1 yellow ball allocated and the person with the worst score on each hole has the play the following hole with the yellow ball but they also pay say a 50p fine for incurring use of the yellow ball. Anyone unwilling to use the yellow ball on the hole its assigned to them for has to pay a forfeit which is double the fine for not using it so e.g £1. We did this at our charity bash for testicular cancer last year and raised an average of £12 a fourball at end of round where some guys would pay the 50p and others rather pay the quid instead but we used pink balls that maybe why!

Rossa/Mav another couple of good ideas

The ones that we always have is, any 3 putt cost a £1, and anyone not hitting the par 3 green cost £1 on the hard one and £2 on the easy ones.

We then end up in the clubhouse, in front of the fines captain, he has been out on the course watching the players going round, and ends up with a list of fines, Example Being:

He will name the person, and say that his tee shot on ex hole was awful fined a £1, the next person named due to a bad bunker shot fined £1 and so on.


He can quite easily raise £50, and it is all good fun

What about failure to reach the ladies tee £5.00 fine, going into certain specified bunkers on the course, £1.00 fine, going oob £2.00 fine, failure to extricate your ball from any bunker £1.00 fine, swearing £1.00 fine, any water hazard £2.00 fine. It soon builds up and the beauty is - it won't detract from any format you happen to be playing on any given comp
