I played 9 holes practice at my local village course today, mainly to break in a new pair of golf shoes.

On the first hole there was what looked like 5 kids sharing two sets of clubs so I skipped in front of them onto the 3rd tee [there was a gap]
Walking down the fairway I noticed that it was a young [smallish] mum with four children aged about 12,10,8 and 6.
The two older children were boys who were playing with mum and the two girls walked along beside them and were allowed to hit the odd shot.
There was an older couple with electric trollies and big bags following them, another couple of two balls arrived soon after.
The three ball kept comfortably in front of the two balls and as far as I could see thier course etiquette was good.
The family were all having a great time and you could see that they were all 'hooked ' on golf.

The course was fairly busy, but no one seemed to be bothered by the family group.
How many golf courses would have allowed this to happen.

Good.
But the person accepting money for greens fees has an obligation to caveat emptor all paying punters.

In that case it's good for golf and bad for the tax-payers.

I would say bad. It doesn't really make my time off any better really. Nobody introduced me to golf at a young age, only when I was older with a few quid and a day off. I don't think it's any devine right to have 18 holes, likewise I have never ridden a horse and people blow money on that. Likewise I was never taken to the beach as a child and neither is that something that must be experienced by all to have a fulfilling childhood nor life. If people want to spend their disposable income on golf, tap-dancing or other frivolous persuits I don't mind neither do I consider it a basic human right. Really don't get the benefit of golf foundations or other schemes, cos I can't see the benefit to our nations economy if mcilroy, Clarke et al are prominent golfers

I really hate equine persuits. The people I know spend hundreds after hundreds on these animals, be it farriers, vet bills, behavioral specialists, bridles, transportations to events, getting the horses teeth cleaned, precruption charges, yard fees, sand school fees; and these are People that would consider 50 quid on a pair of work shoes to be an extravagance. They think you are a waster for paying eighty quid for a second hand 4 wood from eBay and say you have to be loaded to play golf. Makes me sick. Lovely bottle Of red I'm sinking by the way

Good on them , golf clubs need young players and if they are up to sped etiquette wise more power to them

They are exactly the type of people I wish golf clubs had more of. The typical golfer is not really someone I get on well with.

Chip on the shoulder or what? I dislike horsey types as much as anyone but really you gotta let it go.

Although there is a good point to be had in your rant about the affordability of golf compared to other pursuits. It is certainly no more expensive than horse riding, did someone mention that?, or tennis. I would imagine it is also not that much more expensive than playing football twice a week on a hired pitch.

It wasn't a rant, merely an observation
