Tom Youngs (older brother of Ben) started his career as a centre, representing England at U20 level in this position. Back in 2000/9 the then Leicester coach Heyneke Meyer told him that he was unlikely to make it at centre and suggested that his stocky stature could see him become a successful Hooker.

Now still only 24 with a couple of years of first team Championship rugby behind he has been recalled by Tigers. Are Tigers fans hoping for a Schalk Brits type character? Maybe a bit optimistic, but I’ll be an outsider with interest.

I would say that before anybody gets too excited he has roughly the same height as Lee Mears (if somewhat stockier) and we all know the flak that he has picked up over the years.
