AMI Stadium and earthquake damage Empty AMI Stadium and earthquake damage

Post by Pete C (Kiwireddevil) Tue 14 Jun 2011, 3:00 pm

Here is the first real information I've seen for a while on damage to AMI* Stadium (Lancaster Park) from the September, December, February, May and June earthquakes in Canterbury (note, yesterday's aftershock was the same magnitude as the February one, and the fact that Central Christchurch is still cordoned off following February is credited with saving lives). The (uninsured) turf at the stadium was badly damaged by liquefaction, and there was a fairly large ridge left in the middle of the field. Now it appears that the Hadlee Stand (the largely corporate-box stand at the "front", Northern end) may need to be rebuilt, along with work needed to relevel the ground beneath the new (Eastern) Deans stand.

It could be a while before the Crusaders or the All Blacks play at home Sad.

*Given that AMI insurance have had to seek government backing to cover earthquake claims a new naming sponsor may not be far away

Thanks for deleting GG's spurious wum. The guy needs reining in.

Good luck to Christchurch. And here's to an historically deserved 2nd RWC king .
