.There is plenty of British interest in the 400m hurdles especially as half the lanes in the men's affair are occupied by Brits, led by swiftly-rising U23 Jack Green. The 19-year-old comes off the back of a victorious PB of 49.48 secs at Kassel (Germany), coupled with the scalps of Jamaicans Isa Phillips and Danny McFarlane, so will be eyeing to extend his winning streak over a second race on the trot on the European circuit as well as getting his hands on an A standard for Daegu.

Jamaican Yosef Robertson, just inside Green in lane four, is the fastest on paper this season in 49.37 secs but the top name of the race goes out in lane eight, former European champion Perikles Iakovakis (GRE) who got off to a modest start of 51.09 secs last month.

Commonwealth finalist David Hughes goes in lane seven looking for his first sub 50 secs mark of the season with reborn Richard Davenport (49.97, PB) right inside him in six, where Rick Yates is handed another awkward task on the inside.

European finalist Eilidh Child is faced with a far tougher challenge against European champion Natalya Antyukh(RUS), home favourite and fifth fastest in the world Zuzana Hejnova (54.23 SB) and Ukraine's Anastasiya Rabchenyuk (55.53) looking to run off them into an A qualifier for the Worlds, hopefully picking one or two off to a top three placing.

Sarah Claxton is racing in the sprint hurdles off a big SB of 13.20 secs on Friday and Lindsay Sharp will be hoping to stretch her season surprise effect on the European scene knocking another chunk off her Saturday PB of 2:02.48 in Watford.

There is also the 47th International Pfingstmeeting at Rehlingen, Germany, on today with Martyn Rooney, as I've come to understand, and a few other Brits down to compete but I haven't been able to track a link yet.

Fast,
The start lists will not be released until later in the week, today is the final day for final entries, entry lists should be available on the European athletics website tomorrow and are usually followed by a prediction of every event and final results and start lists.

Another fabulous performance on the trot from season find Lindsey Sharp who came second in the women's 800m in a substantial PB of 2:01.98. Ukraine's Anastasiya Tkachuk was first in 2:01.51.

I've got a feeling that the top trio of British 800m girls should start looking over their shoulders for her and Emma Jackson down the season as both look very dangerous.

Jack Green, by the way, claimed his second straight win on the European circuit and claimed the scalp of former European champion Perikles Iakovakis, who came sixth in a SB of 50.63 secs from lane eight.

Slightly better from Rick Yates who ran 50.99 secs from the inside lane.

Eilidh Child, by the way, got a poor reaction to the gun (0.338) that definitely took a dent into her eventual time of that SB of 55.82 secs, which could have been faster, and very likely cost her a top three place since Anastasiya Rabchenyuk (UKR) finished just 0.08 secs ahead.

Forgot to mention that Sarah Claxton came sixth in 13.31 secs (-0.3m/sec) in the women's 100m hurdles.

When the Outdoor season started I thought that the No 1 and 2 spots for 400m hurdles were nailed on for Dai Greene and Rhys Williams. Beyond that I thought the No 3 spot was a fight between Jack Green, Rick Yates and David Hughes. Now I'm not so sure! Rhys Williams really has to get his act together to resume his rivalry with Greene. I think it's fair to say that Green is No 2 in Britain, and possibly the best young hurdler in the world, ahead of Jehue Gordon. It wouldn't surprise me if someone ran inside 49 secs next year and didn't even get on the Olympic team.

Steve Lewis has won the pole vault with a first-time 5.62m (SB) at Rehlingen, Germany. That's a third B standard for him.

Martyn Rooney, on the other hand, fared again in the 46.1 region for a third time running, this time posting 46.18 secs for a close runner-up behind Masrahi Yosef Ahmed (46.09), in what looked like windy conditions there.

In the high jump, Samson Oni got third after a first-time clearance at 2.18m in the high jump.
