Jordan Clark could be in line for his Surrey debut having been named in the 14-man squad for Thursday’s Royal London One-Day Cup clash with Middlesex.
All-rounder Clark has recovered from a knee injury sustained during the pre-season tour of Dubai and is now available for selection. Overseas batsman Dean Elgar arrived in the country on Wednesday and could make the first appearance of his third spell with the Club at the Kia Oval.
Rikki Clarke, Ollie Pope and Jason Roy, who were all forced from the field during Tuesday’s win over Essex, will miss out.
Clarke suffered an open dislocation to a finger on his right hand while Pope dislocated his shoulder fielding on the boundary. Both will see specialists in the coming days to discover the extent of the damage.
Roy was forced to retire hurt early in his innings following a back spasm.
The batsman joins his England teammate Tom Curran on the sidelines. Curran missed Tuesday’s victory with a low grade calf injury. Roy, Curran and Liam Plunkett will all join up with the England squad for the upcoming One-Day Internationals with Ireland and Pakistan following Thursday’s match.
Also unavailable for selection are Jade Dernbach (calf) and Scott Borthwick (side) while Gus Atkinson, Matt Dunn and Amar Virdi are back in training but not yet match fit. Sam Curran remains in the Indian Premier League with Kings XI Punjab.

FULL SQUAD
Rory Burns (c)
Gareth Batty
Jordan Clark
Dean Elgar
Ben Foakes
Will Jacks
Conor McKerr
Stuart Meaker
Morne Morkel
Ryan Patel
Liam Plunkett
Jamie Smith
Mark Stoneman
Freddie van den Bergh
Patel had figures of 0 for 65 from 5.5 overs today in the 2nd XI Trophy match so no need for him with clark available.
No need for burger time either so either smith or meaker for the last spot, for me I would give smith the number 6 position

Cheers, JimBob.

Regarding Patel and his 5.5 overs, the scorecard suggests someone else (? Barlow) completed his final over by bowling just one ball in the game. Does that mean Patel is also crocked?

Not a huge issue for the Middlesex game as it's unlikely Patel would have made the eleven but we don't need anyone else in the sick bay. Think Fred and Meaks will join him on the sidelines. With Roy and Pope out, I would play Smith.

I am going to this one - without a bat Wink. Think we'll get a game although probably rain affected.

Very good start, Middlesex 70-4

All bowlers are bowling well though Morkel was a little loose early on.

Only Batty bowled with any credit....why did we sign Jordan Clark? Great bowling at a number 10
Elgar's batted like a crab, and now got out, and the tail starts after Foakes Shocked

Excellent result for Middx today. Always nice to put one over our neighbours on the wrong side of the Thames.

In football terms - we were 2-0 up after 35 minutes and ended up losing 4-2!

Middle were 185/8 and we let 'em back in the game as they got to 279 and then dismissed us almost 40 shy.

I'm not going to judge Jordan Clark as a Surrey player on one performance but he had an awful debut - 0/45 from 5 overs and then out for 1. He replaced Rikki Clarke in the order and once more numbers 7 (Clark), 8 (Plunkett) and 9 (McKerr) all looked at least one place too high.

I was also disappointed by Burns' captaincy. Thought he didn't mix the bowling up enough and didn't help Clark either by not giving him the ball until the 22nd over. He also bottled between bowling Morkel out in an attempt to go for the kill or holding him back for the close, and instead did neither by leaving him with a single over until very near the end. This meant the final overs were shared by Clark and Jacks which was as ordinary as it sounds.

Plus points for us - just about the only ones - were Batty's bowling (watch his caught & bowled on the highlights, his determination had me convinced he was grabbing that as soon as it went in his direction) and Foakes' all round display. Really neat stumping off a leg-side wide sent down by Jacks and a polished knock which would have held the innings together if only we had had some firepower.

In contrast, many good individual performances from our opponents and a fine all round team display. Taylor just about the pick of the bunch with a very valuable and calm innings.
