Gap widens between Premier League & Championship

The latest (record) TV rights deal for broadcasting PL matches, means the average income for top flight teams, this season, stands at £157M, compared with just £24M for Championship teams. A whopping difference of £133M.

Which is pretty ridiculous when you consider there isn't much difference in quality between a top 6 Championship team and a bottom 6 PL team. Must be a lot of Sky / BT / whoever's millions being wasted on dross.
This is probably the most shocking football-related thing I have read lately...

In 2015, the Premier League sold domestic television rights to its games for a record £5.136bn, 71% above the previous deal.The full impact of that negotiation was first expected to be seen in 2016-17 accounts, which BBC analysis can now reveal.
BBC England's data unit and BBC Sport analysed most recent accounts - covering the four years until 2017.
Our analysis found:
- The median average turnover among Premier League clubs was £133m higher than those in the Championship, according to clubs' most recent accounts
- In 2017, 14 out of 23 Championship clubs spent more than 100% of their turnover on staff costs, including their players, coaches, management and administrators
- Barnsley did not disclose that detail in their 2017 accounts
- Between 2014 and 2017, Championship clubs' median average turnover increased by £4.8m to £23.7m, League One's rose by £1.9m to £6.3m and League Two's dropped by £300,000 to £3.2m
- The Premier League's highest-paid director, believed to be executive chairman Richard Scudamore, received £2.5m in "broadcasting bonuses" in the year ending 2016, when the record TV rights deal was agreed - more than the margin by which League One and League Two clubs increased their turnovers from 2014-17
This is probably the most shocking football-related thing I have read lately...
The BBC investigation earlier revealed more than half of Premier League clubs could have made a pre-tax profit without selling any tickets in the first season of the current broadcast deal.
Just shows you how irrelevant fans have become to the wealthiest clubs.

Oh yeah, fans mean nothing. That's why they have to do BIG things to get noticed by their board, things that will undermine their public image for sponsorships etc. That's why West Ham fans were on the pitch, that's why Newcastle fans have done walkouts and Sports Direct protests. It's all PR now.
Saying that, I think the argument about the Top Six in the champ being as good as the bottom half of the Prem is a bit wishy washy. Momentum is huge in football, and if you are playing easier games each week, you're going to have it and look better. The Champ is a hard league, but Fulham and Wolves didn't win it and have been banked as possibles to break the top ten, eight or six. Wolves were outplayed by 10 men of Everton and Fulham were schooled at home.
And Cardiff won it and because they haven't strengthened, people think they're nailed on 20th.
It's understandable, the money is huge, but then the wage gaps are huge and clubs are using promotion to get parachute payments and then go for it.

Actually I said "there isn't much difference" between top 6 Championship clubs and bottom 6 PL clubs.
I would use examples like Burnley and Bournemouth, who managed to establish themselves as PL teams, without spending huge amounts of money. With the right team and manager, you can still survive comfortably, without relying on huge amounts of TV money to strengthen the team (or at least spending a lot less than other clubs).

Burnley had come and gone before and built on it, whilst Bournemouth had been spending a lot before. It does happen, of course, but once they come up it’s a different game
