The USGA set the course up for play and finally we had some competitive and compelling golf on display. The Fantasy League picked all of the top five, seven of the top nine, eight of the top eleven, and fourteen of the twenty four players that finished within a share of 20th or better.
Super_Realist may only have had three picks left but he had Koepka, Dustin Johnson, and Justin Rose. That made for a very competitive showing but it wasn't enough as Kwinigolfer had the same three and added Henrik Stenson and Louis Oosthuizen into the mix. Pedro had four picks score while AlciG, EmmDee57, Eyetoldyouso, LadyPutt, SetupDetermines, and SirBenson all had three picks score. Everyone else had two picks score.
Matt Parziale managed to hang onto to top spot in the amateur race but he also shared the honours with Luis Gagne. Sand earned the Low Amateur guessing rights.

It seems Phil Mickelson didn't want to share the spotlight on his birthday so he made sure the story will be about him and an "iffy" course setup. Three players broke par and two others managed to match it. The Top 10 Low Round scores cut off was +2. Eight picks scored points one of which was one of the Low Round scorers. Tony Finau and Daniel Berger both shot 66 to tie for the low score and the overall lead. BlueCoverman and EmmDee57 earned points from Finau. Blue also had three other picks score points and EmmDee added another scoring pick. LadyPutt, Pedro, Raycastleunited, and Sand also had two scoring picks. The cut line eventually fell at +8 and some players and picks faltered over their last few holes to join those on the wrong side. Unusually not one pick made it on the number; they were either inside or outside by a shot or more. Cat C proved to be problematic for the Fantasy League with just four picks sticking around for the weekend; hat tip to Raycastleunited for having two of them, the closest anyone came to earning a cut bonus in Cat C.
Three Fantasy Leaguers earned two cut bonuses. EmmDee57 and Pedro both have seven picks left while Kwinigolfer has six picks left all from Cat A and B. I'm Never Wrong, Raycastleunited, Sand, and SetupDetermines also have six picks left but Ray didn't earn a bonus. AlciG, BlueCoverman, Eyetoldyouso, GPB, LadyPutt, SirBenson, TheCleaver, and Wiretapper all have five picks left, all earned a bonus except for Eyetoldyouso and SirBenson. The U.S. Open returns to Shinnecock Hills the scene of a farcial seventh green. Brooks Kopeka is the defending champion having triumphed at Erin hills. His score of -16 could mean that the previous Shinnecock is back although hopefully not.
There are three Categories where you will need pick three players, plus reserve, from each one. There are bonus points available if you get all of your picks through in any category. Get all 9 picks through and you get an even bigger bonus. It's all way down at the bottom in the scoring section if you are interested.
There are twenty amateurs in the field, idenitfied by (am) after their name, so we will have a separate pick for Low Amateur. The Low Amateur pick does not have to be one of your Cat C picks unless you so desire. 30 points will be on offer for correctly picking the Low Amateur; if no amateurs make the cut then no points will be awarded.

RULES
Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 9 players as follows:
Pick 3 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.
Pick 1 amateur identified by (am) after their name.
Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).
If there is a tie after all 9 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.
Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be eligible for points for all completed rounds and making the cut if they withdraw after the cut. It must be apparent that the player completed their round for them to be eligible for either the low round, worse round, top 5, or top 10 low round scores. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.
Failure to submit valid picks: If you do not submit valid picks you will be awarded zero points for each invalid pick.
Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.
All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

RULES
Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 9 players as follows:
Pick 3 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.
Pick 1 amateur identified by (am) after their name.
Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).
If there is a tie after all 9 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.
Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be eligible for points for all completed rounds and making the cut if they withdraw after the cut. It must be apparent that the player completed their round for them to be eligible for either the low round, worse round, top 5, or top 10 low round scores. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.
Failure to submit valid picks: If you do not submit valid picks you will be awarded zero points for each invalid pick.
Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.
All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

Well that was a bit difficult. Four players managed to break par and just one other finished at even. All five were picks. Dustin Johnson, Ian Poulter, Scott Piercy, and Russell Henley were the big scorers with Dustin Johnson being by far the most popular pick. Poulter and Piercy were both picked twice with I'm Never Wrong picking both of them to take an early lead. Henley was picked once and Dufner, the player to finish at even was picked once too. SirBenson had both Johnson and Dufner to move into second spot. Well that was a bit difficult. Four players managed to break par and just one other finished at even. All five were picks. Dustin Johnson, Ian Poulter, Scott Piercy, and Russell Henley were the big scorers with Dustin Johnson being by far the most popular pick. Poulter and Piercy were both picked twice with I'm Never Wrong picking both of them to take an early lead. Henley was picked once and Dufner, the player to finish at even was picked once too. SirBenson had both Johnson and Dufner to move into second spot. BlueCoverman, EmmDee57, Eyetoldyouso, GPB, Kwinigolfer, Owen10ozzy, Pedro, Raycastleunited, Sand, SetupDetermines, Super_Realist, and TheCleaver all had one of the low round scorers.

The cut line eventually fell at +8 and some players and picks faltered over their last few holes to join those on the wrong side. Unusually not one pick made it on the number; they were either inside or outside by a shot or more. Cat C proved to be problematic for the Fantasy League with just four picks sticking around for the weekend; hat tip to Raycastleunited for having two of them, the closest anyone came to earning a cut bonus in Cat C.
Three Fantasy Leaguers earned two cut bonuses. EmmDee57 and Pedro both have seven picks left while Kwinigolfer has six picks left all from Cat A and B. I'm Never Wrong, Raycastleunited, Sand, and SetupDetermines also have six picks left but Ray didn't earn a bonus. AlciG, BlueCoverman, Eyetoldyouso, GPB, LadyPutt, SirBenson, TheCleaver, and Wiretapper all have five picks left, all earned a bonus except for Eyetoldyouso and SirBenson. Davie and Owen10ozzy both have four picks left while Super_Realist has all of Cat A left for the weekend.
Scoring was a little better in round 2 with 14 players beating par and a further 10 level par. Tommy Fleetwood and Brooks Koepka had the best scores in round two with 66s and both were picks. Three amateurs made the cut and Sand is the only one to have their amateur still in the hunt. Matt Parziale is level with Luis Gagne and two shots behind Will Grimmer.

It seems Phil Mickelson didn't want to share the spotlight on his birthday so he made sure the story will be about him and a course setup that was a bit "iffy". Three players broke par and two others managed to match it. The Top 10 Low Round scores cut off was +2. Eight picks scored points one of which was one of the Low Round scorers. Tony Finau and Daniel Berger both shot 66 to tie for the low score and the overall lead. BlueCoverman and EmmDee57 earned points from Finau. Blue also had three other picks score points and EmmDee added another scoring pick. LadyPutt, Pedro, Raycastleunited, and Sand also had two scoring picks. The USGA set the course up for play and finally we had some competitive and compelling golf on display. The Fantasy League picked all of the top five, seven of the top nine, eight of the top eleven, and fourteen of the twenty four players that finished within a share of 20th or better.
Super_Realist may only have had three picks left but he had Koepka, Dustin Johnson, and Justin Rose. That made for a very competitive showing but it wasn't enough as Kwinigolfer had the same three and added Henrik Stenson and Louis Oosthuizen into the mix. Pedro had four picks score while AlciG, EmmDee57, Eyetoldyouso, LadyPutt, SetupDetermines, and SirBenson all had three picks score. Everyone else had two picks score.
Matt Parziale managed to hang onto to top spot in the amateur race but he also shared the honours with Luis Gagne. Sand earned the Low Amateur guessing rights.
