Joke fights here we come!!

So it's confirmed.....mayweather vs Conor McGregor.
The lay public and mostly MMA fans will be most enthused by this fight. I think it's the start of a WWE style entertainment farce. People will be going crazy on social media about the legitimacy of this fight and how it's the greatest thing to ever happen. The reality is that it is chalk and cheese fighting......might as well pair Andy Murray up with Freddy flintoff for the WBA belt. The spanner in the works could be mayweather along lay off and age. Is this a horrendous scam fight or should we be excited that boxing is reaching even more platforms?

You're damn right it's a joke fight! We all know what's going to happen.
Conor will lose a scripted fight against a tranny.

It'll probably be another pac may style anti-climax. Mainly a treat for the glitterati who want there hands on a ticket to make maximum exhibit of their monetary prowess.

Typically underwhelming Mayweather choice of opponent

Forgivable though if Floyd using this as a stay in shape fight with the intention of fighting winner Spence/Thurman next summer

Fighting Spence or Thurman would be a stylish way for Mayweather to finish his career

Just can't believe anyone could be interested in watching him fight McGregor just don't get the interest in the fight at all wouldn't even stay up to watch it

From a business perspective you have to give mcgregor his due. as for Floyd, well TBE is following in the footsteps of the greatest, ali.

We can only hope that like the boxers v wrestlers/sumo etc from the past, that it's a one off.

I am definitely on the side of camp, that this fight is a farce. The build up will be trashy, but entertaining none the less.

Floyd would beat Thurman/Garcia in a one sided boring decision. The same will happen with Conor, but he makes 10 times the money! Real fans might hate it, but this is all about making money. Nothing else!

The good news for boxing fans, is Canelo and GGG is just after this. Also Ward vs Kovalev before it.

I believe everybody on here will watch the fight, even if they claim they won't.

Agree - plus, love him or hate him, everyone will watch Mayweather in the hope he either gets sparked - or just to watch him embarrass Conor.

Conor might kick him in the head. Who knows what can happen?

This is not the same thing as Ali v the Japanese wrestler. That 'fight' was an exhibition. Mayweather v McGregor is being sold to the public as a serious fight.

These sort of match ups are part and parcel of boxing

Ali had a few exhibition fights with Japanese wrestlers
Forman fought 5 guys in 1 night
Primo fought a Kangaroo
David Haye fought Harrison

So this exhibition farce is nothing new.

I look at it this way its not a fight that we as purists should acknowledge but for the infamous moderate fans who really have no understanding of the game.

As I predicted, There will be a lawsuit if Conor kicks Floyd. He boxes, or he loses a lot of money. I knew this stipulation would be added.

I don't think Floyd can end this in a round. He is a far superior boxer, but he is smaller and Conor can take a shot. This at least goes 9 rounds. I think it will go the distance.

Floyd doesn't care about winning in style. He just wants huge money and to make sure he wins.

You obviously are crazy, while it may be hard for McGregor to win the fight if you think Mayweather can win easily by knockout you are crazy

Punching is about a delivery system, just as much as strength

The standard is lower than he's fought in his last 40 professional fights. Probably ever.

McGregor has 0 boxing fights. His boxing is against guys worrying about takedowns. He looks absolutely horrible boxing. Mayweather has decent power, and McGregor wont be used to the speed. KO at nearly evens is a steal IMO.

This has nothing to do with power AT ALL.

If I punch you full on in the face with ice on my hands, gloves on or even tea towels, the punches will be thrown the same way, same power, all with different effects due to padding.

Punch power is about timing and speed, as well as brute force. Though with Conor being the bigger guy, power might not be the issue.

He will struggle very badly with Floyd's speed and movement. Conor has good timing in mma, but he has never seen anyone with Mayweather speed. People talk about age, but Floyd will be the one that looks 28.

Using an instrumented heavy bag that measures force, National Geographic took former UFC Heavyweight champion Bas Rutten into the gym to have him punch the bag without wearing gloves, wearing MMA gloves, and again with a boxing glove.

The study showed that without a glove, the bare-fist bone-on-bone strike landed almost 370kilos of force, causing the brain to rattle against the skull and could possibly injure the strikers hand.

The MMA gloves are 2CM worth of padding which lessoned the strike to 295kilos, while adding extra protection for the knuckles and hands.

While the boxing glove has many times the padding of MMA gloves, 6CM worth of foam was able to create 290 kilos worth of force…just 5 kilos lighter than the MMA gloves.

And obviously it's inconceivable that a professional specialist could bridge a 1.7% gap in power, with the added protection to hands. Not to mention the fight being 2.4 times as long.

Obviously hadn't watched Mayweather fight, seems to be a grappling expert

That article is actually about impact force not power Marty, the smaller surface area of a fist compared to a glove increases the impact.

Kind of like arguing over whether Ashton Eaton is wearing flats or spikes to race Mo Farah.

Wasn't too much grappling in the Diaz fights. Also he is meant to be conditioned for grappling. Is he conditioned to take punches from the best boxer in the sport? Floyd is a defensive genius, but if he decides to let his hands go, he could give Conor a beating.

I think he will throw plenty of straight rights and work the body to slow Conor down.

I watched an interview with Mosley where he said that Floyd hits as hard as Canelo

Cake Walk for Floyd and as has been said, complete mismatch...

That being said I dont think Mayweather will KO him at all let alone with ease. He may stop him late but as has been said that will be down to an accumilation of punches not one punch...regardless of Mosleys belief that he hits as hard as Canelo (is that even saying much given he couldnt take out a shocking Chavez or Matthew Hatton)..

The fight is at 154lbs....and Conor will be the much bigger man come fight night (around 170lbs) and his chin is nothing to be snuffed at when you factor in he has never been stopped and has fought plenty of big hitters in MMA who wear 8ounce gloves (which does make a difference).

Can McGregor win...sure...but i've a better chance of winning the Euromillions and I dont play it!

Is the fight bad for boxing...not particularly if you take it for what it is.. a novelty match up (one im far more interested in than him coming back to fight a Berto type etc). I'll enjoy the build and will tune in for the fight, as I can see the likes of Davies and some other guys on the bill.

Got to hand it to floyd. His astute tunnel visioned business acumen knows no bounds. This fight has a novelty factor which has the lay fight fan drooling uncontrollably. For the purist it has the hallmarks of a joke match up to line the pockets of one man and one man only. I guess from his perspective if you can do that then why not?!? Does it leave a legacy for the purists, it doesn't for me.
