Russia to launch real "Hunger Games"

A Russian TV network is to launch a new survival show, loosely based on the book / film franchise.

The competition will be held in Siberia and feature 20 men and women, who will have to survive for 9 months, with a limited amount of equipment. They are also given survival training beforehand by retired GRU Spetnaz soldiers. The contestants will have to survive from 1 July 2017 until 1 April 2018 in temperatures which can fall to -40C. They are allowed to take knives, but not firearms.

Participants either have to pay 10 million roubles (£130,000) or be voted in by viewers. They also have to sign a "release of liability" document, absolving the network of any responsibility, in the event they are injured, or die. If they want to leave at any time, they can hit a "panic button" on the satellite phones they are equipped with.

The area of forest in Novosibirsk will have remote cameras set up all over and each contestant will carry a portable camera.

Just like the Hunger Games movies, viewers can donate gifts to their favourite participants.

The winner takes home 100 million roubles, or if there is more than one participant left, the prize money is shared.

This is fantastic. Shame they couldn't get the participants exempt from the law.

Really? With any luck they'll be sued by the makers of the real film franchise (scheiss though it is).
I could go for it, however, if the contestants included Putin, Bliar, Dubya, Erdogan, Assad, Netanyahu, the entire Al-Saud family, Trump etc etc...

The makers of the real film franchise were very fortunate not to be sued by the makers of Battle Royale as the former was a shameless and vastly inferior rip-off.

I'd also be up for it if it included all the f*ckwits from Dave who don't realise that they're not funny.

Agree with Galted, Battle Royale absolutely pees all over the Hunger Games franchise.
