What a titanic battle between two players who had just two bogies between them in their combined twelve under par round.  Everyone else was playing for third place as Phil Mickelson tried in vain to peg back Henrik Stenson who shot 63 to set an Open Championship record score.

With the selections of Owen10ozzy (Mickelson) and Pedro (Stenson) every other Fantasy Leaguer was playing for J.B. Holmes's spot.  Pedro was one of two Fantasy Leaguers to have Stenson in his selections and while he didn't have the most scoring picks he still managed to match the points of haul of those who had an extra scoring pick.  Owen10ozzy and SetupDetermines were the ones to have five scoring picks.  Sand and TheCleaver also had four scoring picks and that saw them compete with Kwinigolfer and SirBenson at the upper echelons of the leaderboard as Kwinigolfer just has Stenson score for him while SirBenson had just two picks score.  AlciG, BlueCoverman, and GolferMartin each had three scoring picks.  Beninho, Davie, McLaren, and Super_Realist each had two scoring picks while EmmDee57, Eyetoldyouso, I'm Never Wrong, and LadyPutt each had one scoring pick.

Stenson's round of 63 saw him shoot the low round score for three consecutive rounds.

The 145th edition of the Open Championship sees the R&A return to Royal Troon for the 9th time.  Almost a home from home for American players as Arnold Palmer, Tom's Weiskoph and Watson, Mark Calcavecchia, Justin Leonard, and most recently Todd Hamilton have raised the Claret Jug as Champion Golfer of the Year the last six times the Open has visited Troon.  Calcavecchia was also the first to have won in a playoff under the four hole format.

Troon will be laid out as a par 71, out and back, over 7,190 yards and the back nine was described by Gary Player as "the most difficult in the world when the wind is blowing".  Each hole has had some minor tweaks to prepare for the Championship more significant changes have taken place on the ninth, tenth, and fifteenth holes.  The changes were to largely restore some of their previous characteristics and features.   Troon is also home to the Postage Stamp which is one of the shortest par threes in Major Championship play.  Although it may be short it still has teeth.  German Amateur Herman Tissies managed a fifteen there criss crossing the hole after numerous bunker shots finishing with just one putt.  In contrast a 71 year old Gene Sarazen didn't need a putter in the two rounds he played in 1973; he had a hole in one and then holed a bunker shot for a two the next day.

Zach Johnson is the defending champion having triumphed in a playoff on a Monday at St Andrews.  There are fifteen other winners in the field; Mark Calcavecchia, Darren Clarke, Ben Curtis, John Daly, David Duval, Ernie Els, Todd Hamilton, Padraig Harrington, Paul Lawrie, Justin Leonard, Sandy Lyle, Rory McIlroy, Phil Mickelson, Mark O'Meara, and Louis Oosthuizen.  There are two amateurs, Scott Gregory and Stefano Mazzoli, playing for the Silver Medal which will be awarded to the low amateur.

There are three Categories where you will need pick three players, plus reserve, from each one.  There are bonus points available if you get all of your picks through in any category.  Get all 9 picks through and you get an even bigger bonus.  It's all way down at the bottom in the scoring section if you are interested.

This is a full field with cut event, cut points will be available; see above.

RULES

Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 9 players as follows:

Pick 3 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.

Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).

If there is a tie after all 9 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.

Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be eligible for points for all completed rounds and making the cut if they withdraw after the cut. It must be apparent that the player completed their round for them to be eligible for either the low round, worse round, top 5, or top 10 low round scores.  If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.

Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply or PM them to me.  Example: Pick 3 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4, 5, and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1, 3, and 7, reserve 5 from Category B, players 1, 2 and 17, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.

Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.

Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament.  However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.

All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

Phil Mickelson opened with a flawless 63 and missed out on the last hole of shooting a record low 62.  With 49 other players under par after round one scores of 67 were needed to make the Top 5 Low Round scores.  Ten players met that target; six of them were picks.  Owen10ozzy, SetupDetermines, and TheCleaver picked Mickelson and Owen and Setup added another scoring pick.  Four Fantasy Leaguers, BlueCoverman, Eyetoldyouso, Pedro, and SirBenson, each had two scoring picks while AlciG, Beninho, Davie, I'm Never Wrong, Kwinigolfer, LadyPutt, McLaren, Raycastleunited, and Sand each had one pick score points.

The will he, won't he question surrounding Chris Wood was answered with him starting and then updated with him pulling out.  Super_Realist was impacted by this.

The two amateurs, Stefano Mazzoli and Scott Gregory, in the field will be hard pressed to make the cut after rounds of 76 and 78 respectively.

The weather did play havoc with the players in the second round. Some got their head down and got through it while others lost their way and bitched and moaned about it or threw clubs. The cut line moved out to +4 earning a reprieve for some who looked like they were well over the cut line. No one managed to keep the full set for the weekend. AlciG, SetupDetermines, and SirBenson came the closest with just one pick missing out for each of them however it wasn't that close in reality. Almost everyone earned a cut bonus, sorry Beninho, and some even earned two. BlueCoverman, Davie, Eyetoldyouso, GolferMartin, Owen10ozzy, Pedro, Raycastleunited, Sand, and Super_Realist are all left with seven picks left; BlueCoverman, Eyetoldyouso, and GolferMartin all earned two cut bonuses. EmmDee57, I'm Never Wrong, Kwinigolfer, LadyPutt, and TheCleaver all have six picks left; TheCleaver was the last Fantasy Leaguer to earn two cut bonuses. Beninho and McLaren are left with four picks each.

Henrik Stenson shot 65 for the low round of the day and that earned points for Kwinigolfer and Pedro.

Thirteen players beat par in round three and that set the Low Round scores mark as 70.  Four players shared the low round score; Henrik Stenson, Steve Stricker, Brandt Snedeker, and Hadyn Porteous were the players to shoot 68.  Three of them were picks and Pedro had two of the three in Stenson and Stricker.  I'm Never Wrong, Kwinigolfer, and Owen10ozzy had Snedeker, Stenson, and Stricker respectively.

Pedro was one of three Fantasy Leaguers to have three picks score and with two of them being low scorers he was tough to keep up with at the top of the leaderboard.  Owen10ozzy was another and SirBenson was the third; Owen had one of the low scorers.  Davie and I'm Never Wrong each had two picks score but INW had a low round scorer to earn more points than Davie.  AlciG, Eyetoldyouso, GolferMartin, Kwinigolfer, LadyPutt, Raycastleunited, Sand, SetupDetermines, Super_Realist, and TheCleaver; Kwini's scoring pick was a low round scorer.

What a titanic battle between two players who had just two bogies between them in their combined twelve under par round. Everyone else was playing for third place as Phil Mickelson tried in vain to peg back Henrik Stenson who shot 63 to set an Open Championship record score.

With the selections of Owen10ozzy (Mickelson) and Pedro (Stenson) every other Fantasy Leaguer was playing for J.B. Holmes's spot. Pedro was one of two Fantasy Leaguers to have Stenson in his selections and while he didn't have the most scoring picks he still managed to match the points of haul of those who had an extra scoring pick. Owen10ozzy and SetupDetermines were the ones to have five scoring picks. Sand and TheCleaver also had four scoring picks and that saw them compete with Kwinigolfer and SirBenson at the upper echelons of the leaderboard as Kwinigolfer just has Stenson score for him while SirBenson had just two picks score. AlciG, BlueCoverman, and GolferMartin each had three scoring picks. Beninho, Davie, McLaren, and Super_Realist each had two scoring picks while EmmDee57, Eyetoldyouso, I'm Never Wrong, and LadyPutt each had one scoring pick.

Stenson's round of 63 saw him shoot the low round score for three consecutive rounds.
