Is 40 still Middle-aged? - Page 2 Empty Is 40 still Middle-aged?

Post by aja424 Sun 17 Apr 2016, 12:36 am

First topic message reminder :

With our live expectancy increasing thanks to better healthcare and the availability of good advice in terms of healthy living, is 40 still 'middle aged'?.
Not yet there myself but can't imagine feeling like a middle-aged man in a couple of years. Certainly don't think I should be described as a middle-aged man for at least a decade!
Anyone else feel that the label 'middle-aged man' is no longer appropriate to a man of 40?

You can discuss racism and censorship to your hearts' content but I'd like you to stick to the topic at hand as the place is awash with people who have scant regard for the rules and, speaking as one who has never broken the rules on here (apart from the two occasions I've been banned) I find it upsetting and wish to return to the status quo asap.

Rowan was correct to a degree that Bush and Blair are two "war criminals" who haven't been brought to trial but his assertion that it was due to skin colour was, in my opinion, way off. As stated by someone else, it had more to do with their status as world leaders and the fact that the wheels of justice turn so slowly as to be imperceptible.

And yes, you're all racist!!

Now isn't that a wonderful way to enjoy a day?

Rowan mouths his piece and Dave comes back at him with an eloquence that demands an ear to hear it.

That's a forum folks. Wink

I've gone back on my word though.  I don't feel middle aged anymore.  I've been feeling 33ish again recently - an age I've felt for most of my life, even well before I reached it.

So I can't be banned anymore!!!! Yahoo  Yahoo

Fly, wasn't Christ 33 when he died (this would be the mythical made up person, Jesus Christ, as obviously he never really existed). However, imagining for a second that he did, could it just be that, as you seem to be forever 33, you might very well be the living embodiment of him?

It's certainly food for thought. I mean, look at the way in which you are, in turn, revered and lambasted for your opinions. What's your opinion on feeding the masses using scant resources (very small fish finger sandwiches and the like)? Have you ever had a prostitute wash your feet and dry them with her hair (very niche sort of thing but then I'm no expert on such matters)

I'm willing to seriously consider it, Dave.

I kinda like the idea myself but then, as you say, 33 was a bad year for Jesus. He wasn't just banned, he was crucified.

I've been feeling the nails sink in already, so maybe I'll just try out the prostitute bit in isolation to see if the role suits me.

Jesus would have only been 32 when he died. If he was born at Christmas in Year 0 and died at Easter in 33AD then he wouldn't have made it to his 33rd birthday.

40 is the new 20 as 60 is the new 40, this doesn't bode well for the 20 year olds as they are all now childish gits

World is such a smaller place these days.....People don't have to stay in marriages all their lives to people they can't stand........Plenty to do plenty to see....

Life isn't over when the kids grow up....Life isn't done...It's just starting..

Plenty of reasons to not go gently into the good night..

Fulfillment and happiness keeps you young.......More of it these days......

Age is just a number........My Dad has just stop going to the gym...He's 79 in January..

My two cents' on the subject is that "middle age" is more a technical term to describe someone, with some unfortunate stigma attached. If the average life expectancy is around 80, then 40 is indeed middle aged.

However, middle age does carry the implication of being "past it", "over the hill" and generally a doddery old fart who isn't much good for anything any more. Which certainly isn't true for most 40-year-olds.

I think you can only be considered old when various bits of your body start giving up and you start needing surgery to keep going, as well as specialist equipment (e.g. mobility scooter, stair lift etc.) to get around.

plus: you know you're old when you're under police protection from your neighbours, having committed the crime of voting for Brexit.
plus: you know you're old when the people you're talking to go blank when you remind them that Starfleet Command invented the mobile phone.
plus: you had a brief feeling you were old just before being stoned to death for passing off the Starfleet Command conspiracy theory as 'fact' to your 'young, educated, liberal, progressive, multiethnosexual pleasure-unit siblings.

I'm 36 next February and I'm contemplating doing some "bigboy" stuff next year

The job I'm starting has a pension scheme so I may finally start a pension plan and if the job works out I may look to stay there for the long run

My alcohol intake has reduced quite a lot although that is more due to me not being able to handle it than being "responsible"

The idea of having a steady girlfriend is nice but given the amount of aggro in the past I remain sceptical. Possibly a friend with benefits would be better for now

Other than that I still plan on playing retro computer games and spending all my spare cash on holidays around Europe

Looking to take up a new hobby or join a society for 2017 but can't really think of one to do/join yet

Get that European travel whilst you can.
On subject, what about kids? Are you arrogant enough to consider any?

On subject...I have no reason to consider having any. I don't like kids...I have no desire to be a parent...and I'm quite happy with my life not having to be emotionally and financially responsible for some screaming smelly baby (and all the years that follow). It's the 21st Century now. Each to their own as long as you're not hurting anyone else yeah yeah?

Hope that clears it all up thumbsup

Anyway...enough of that nonsense...anyone know of any decent bars in Munich? I'm sure there are plenty but a heads up would be a good start as I haven't had time to research yet due to my Xmas night shiftjob taking over my life. Hope it isn't as cold as Berlin was last January. Can't help but feel I should have booked Madrid or something, although after spending most of post-July 2016 in Barcelona I am all Spained out for now

I'm pretty sure you might like your own.

However, if you are hell bent on spending the rest of your days travelling and having a good time, then why stick to Europe? Why not travel the world?

I cannot recommend Nepal highly enough. Beautiful country, fantastic helpful people and cheap as chips to eat/sleep.

I probably would but hope to never be in that position (snip time maybe...ouch)

Yeah Europe is the plan until 40 and then perhaps visit other places. Been to the States a few times but never the East. Always fancied India and Japan...so Nepal would probably work it's way in there being next to India. Thanks for the recommendation. I'm sure is as good as you say (I find anywhere other than Britain is nowadays)
