Review of Europeans on PGAT so far Empty Review of Europeans on PGAT so far

Post by McLaren Tue 15 Mar 2016, 2:29 pm

I asked on Kwini's thread how you think Lowry will perform in the remainder of the season.  But why not have a wider look at how europeans are doing on the PGAT so far.  Who is going to struggle for the top 125 and can any of the them push for fedex glory?  A look at the list of current positions suggests quite a few big name Euro's are struggling this season.

4- Russel Knox*
9- Gmac*
24 - David Lingmerth*
26 - Freddie Jac
28 - Sergio "fried chicken" Garcia
32 - Alex Cejka*
42 - Jonas Blixt
51 - Rory McIlroy*
60 - Justin Rose*
82 - Paddy Harington*
86 - Martin Laird
89 - Casey
95 - Greg Owen
101 - Shane Lowry*
113 - Luke Donald*
117 - Henrick Stenson
160 - Jamie Donaldson
169 - Henrick Norlander
171 - Ian Poulter
174 - Francesco Molinari
185 - Carl Pettersson
196 - Brian Davis

* = exempt next year (Thanks Kwini)

PS - If I have missed anyone out let me know.

Molinari, Norlander, Pettersson and Brian Davis will all struggle. While Donaldson and Poulter need to get their act together.

Why?  Because he dropped his EuroTour card?

Casey must be everyone's Marmite - plays such wonderful golf when his heart is in it, yet struts about like such a self-absorbed pr1ck.
Hopefully the wonderful golfer will win out, but you wouldn't bet on it. Would you?

Casey giving up his euro card, doesnt really bother me. Its just the way he comes across both on the course and interviews, he may be a top guy and I could be completely wrong. Im the same with poulter.

Absolutely agree, well summed up. Strange that although Poulter comes across worse I dislike him less, if you know what I mean. Maybe his RC performances have softened him to me.

Poulter at least can have a laugh at himself etc. Casey never gives that impression - he seems a far more self-absorbed person than Poulter.

I wonder what other players on tour think of Casey / Poulter.

I get the impression that Poulter is quite popular, the brashness is all part of the show, underneath it he appears very genuine.

Casey on the other hand, I don't know. Were the likes of Donald, Westwood, Garcia etc really upset when he didn't play in the RC? I got the impression that they didn't really care.

Perhaps if he was regarded as a true team man, Montgomerie would have chosen him for Celtic Manor in 2010; that seems to be when the angst that still troubles Casey seems to have begun.
Meanwhile, he gets thru caddies at quite a rate; it'll be interesting to see how long the romance with John McLaren endures . . . . . .

Completely agree with other comments re Poults.

Strange, of the five main English players of this generation (Casey, Luke, Rose, Westy, Poults), I like Casey the best.

Dunno about that. I think Sergio is another one who falls into the Poulter camp, bit spiky on course, but friendly and genuine off it. But I don't actually know any of these guys.

Did anyone see the Spieth interview with Fehrety? I have only seen a clip but there is a funny moment when Spieth mentions that his sister has to stay just behind the play in case she shouts out in sergio "chicken wing" Garcia's backswing.

Yes, she's autistic so you're probably correct there. Very sad but his devotion to her is commendable. heart

A bit worried by Lowry's scheduling. Not playing the Hyundai for a nice easy start and some "free" Fed Ex points seemed odd - then heading off to Asia for that Eurasia Cup nonsense.

Always worried when fellas like Lowry start the year saying how The Ryder Cup" is their big goal for the year. That thinking is a big reason why so many great European players of the past 10 years are Majorless.

Sorry meant to say that mentally challenged means challenged mentally. Not too hard to decipher. Was not aware of the young ladys condition and have since apologised for any offence you may feel.

I think it was the Ryder Cup or the Open, and the radio interviewed Spieths parents. They talked about his sister and her disability. And how good he is with her, they kept all his trophys and medals in a separate room or something. He sounded like a decent guy, and to be fair, nothing has made me change this view.

Back to Europeans on the PGAT, is this a particularly bad start to the season for Europeans, I don't really have a feel for that.

Knox and Gmac for example have clearly exceeded expectations. Gmac has done a wonderful job of extending his time on the PGAT. Without that win he could have been packing his bags and heading back to Europe.

You should have started out with that instead of sounding like you didn't know what mentally challenged meant, you tease.
And congratulating him on affection for a family member is a bit strong. An award for breathing next perhaps?

Monty

I am sure most people show affection to family members but when a family member has a condition/disability there are clearly things over and above the basics you can do to make their quality of life a lot better.

I don't think I would be as good an influence in an autistic siblings life as Spieth seems to have been for his sister. It isn't that I wouldn't care about them but I would not have the skills required to be as positive an influence as Spieth is to his sister.

Spieth's parents give an interview where they talk about how lovely their son is. Shock! I'm sure he's a nice chap, but you can't expect to form an opinion on him based on what his mum says.
