As for Taylor hes too short for international cricket, we already know that.

Hopefully you're doing a KP_fan impression here....

Goose has a lot of knowledge. It's just wisdom he lacks. Probably has tomato in his fruit salad.

That fruit came from KP himself, are you suggesting he isnt the wisest owl in the forest?

So 50/2 off 7 overs...is that a good or a bad position? Its would be OK for a T20 but with a lot of agressive batsmen to come England are facing the potential for a bust

Below average really. Only a run a ball but with 2 players back in the hutch, the bowling side will always be the happier with that

Well its looking better now for sure, Roots in fine form and Morgan is in danger of getting above 20, got into double figures with a monster 6.

Just catching up.......
Interesting selections from both sides, Southee missing from the NZ lineup, is he injured? Raashid is indeed trusted to play a game for England, and interesting to see Billings in there. I haven't come across his name as much as say Hales or Roy. Interesting selection nevertheless. The left-armer who is an all-rounder as well, isn't picked. But must say I don't mind Jordan in there at all, not too sure about Plunkett though.
Was looking forward to watching a bit of Roy, but he hasn't given a chance today, getting a first baller. Hales yet again not producing the goods in ODIs...... Root not making news, Morgan making lot of news!!
England in a pretty good position at the moment.

Good stuff so far for England - OK, disappointing to lose Roy first up, but Root is so good at playing positive yet (mainly) sensible cricket that the run rate has stayed very healthy.

Over 140 in the 20th over is far better than we have usually produced in the last few years. Hell, it's better than many of out T20 efforts of the recent past Rolling Eyes

msp - from what I can gather: Southee has been rested after the Tests. The left-armer, David Willey is possibly injured though no-one seems sure.

The strangest selection though is the dropping of James Taylor!

Good knock from Morgan, and this is now becoming one of the best ODI knocks i've seen from an England batsmen by root. Absolutely effortless, timing is impeccable. I'll whisper it but possible 200 on if he's there at the end? still almost 30 overs left...

Hmm, great stuff from Morgan and Root but can the middle/lower order cement the position? So often a failing in the past has been an inability to convert a position of strength into the really big scores e.g. 350+

I know Boycott can be an absolute pain in the proverbials but there's a lot of truth in his old saying about the batting side needing to look at the scoreboard and add 2 wickets on before getting too carried away. 188/4 suddenly doesn't look nearly as good as 171/2 ....

Aaargh, that was supposed be a churlish comment not a premonition Sad

As usual a position of promise unravels and we could see something like 270 here, which NZ will make mincemeat of

I can only conclude that England believed this to be a T20 game, hence why they never had any real intention of trying to bat 50 overs!

Now seriously : yes they've lost quick wickets ; now need to consolidate. But with 200 up inside thirty overs they can afford to do just that : spend the next ten overs knocking it around and still tee off in the last ten...

But as I type the third umpire does for Billings Sad

The new boys really aren't doing very well ...

The middle order collapse means England have undone the platform provided by Root and Morgan. All down to Buttler, an opportunity for Rashid to show his abilities with the bat.......

Indeed it might.  Good thing is they can all bat...but four more mistakes and it's all over ...

Would be a dreadful waste of Root/ Morgan if they don't turn this into 320 at least.  But the truly excellent NZ fielding is doing its best to prevent that.
Just have to hope a couple of the remaining bats can get things back on track. Otherwise it's bring back Cook , Bell and Ballance Smile

Rashid's been in pretty good batting form in the last few weeks. Be interesting to see how he's playing, as my feeling about him when he got his first chance in the ODI team was that he lacked power and scoring options, so wasn't really a good option for batting down the order (always thought his batting at least would be better in Tests). Looking at his scoring rate today, it seems that he's perhaps overcome some of those previous deficiencies, especially when you consider that he came in at something of a crisis point.

Still not totally out of difficulty, 10 overs left and we have 288 on the board but only 4 wickets left. At least we'll have something to bowl at, even if at one point it looked like we'd be closer to 400 than 320 to 350.

Best batting power play I can remember from England for a long time !

Odds were someone would get the runs coming again after that wobble. But these two have done exceptionally well ; and with nine possible overs left the final total could end up being pretty imposing...

Buttler is an incredible talent. Just shows that he should have been moved up the order along time ago. Gives him a chance to get in and also bat with the middle order rather than the tail. Another fantastic 4!

Yes, for too much of the innings England have been 1 more wicket down than they would have wanted. However, the score - 332/6 off 44 now - shows how much they've still got on with things.

Excellent partnership by these two. If Rashid had gone early, we could have been looking at 250 all out.

And now a deserved ton for Buttler. clap clap 400 just about possible if he stays in ....

Costing me sleep but you don't get many chances to see England bat like this in an ODI : will still have to defend it mind , on a very good batting surface. But I think we can say the batsmen have done their job Smile

I think they will get 400...
