Kwini made reference to the fact that only one Players Champion had shot 73 in the opening round and then gone onto win.  Kevin Kisner tried hard to make that happen again.  He fell just short in the sudden death playoff after Sergio Garica had been eliminated after the three hole playoff.  Rickie Fowler held his nerve to win a big tournament; is he still overrated?  I don't know, I'll leave that for the talking heads and in the discussions that Kwini is sure to provoke in his weekly Ballwasher Notes column.

Anyway back to the Fantasy League.  This was really the SirBenson show and everyone else was the supporting cast.  SirBenson started off like a train and never looked back until the final putt dropped.  He had five of his eight picks finish in the Top 20 including eventual winner Rickie Fowler.  EmmDee57 and LadyPutt were the Kevin Kisners and Sergio Garcias if you will as they finished second and third with a bumoer crop of points.  EmmDee may only have had two picks score but they finished first and second.  LadyPutt had three picks score points including both runner ups.

SetupDetermines, 1GrumpyGolfer, and Beninho all had three picks score points while Davie had two picks score for good reasons and one pick for bad reasons.  Sand, CJB, and BlueCoverman all had two picks score points as they round out the top 10 places.  AlciG, Kwinigolfer, TheCleaver, Hibbz, RedRage, Pedro, and kouchi all had two picks score points.

Boyhyde, Super_Realist, McLaren, Eyetoldyouso, Barragan, and Raycastleunited all had one pick score points.  I'm Never Wrong, I'm sure, will have better luck next time.

As was the case in the first round, 67 was the Low Score and this time it was just three picks who shared the Low Score.  SirBenson had two of them in Rickie Fowler and Padraig Harrington.  EmmDee57 and SetupDetermines also picked Fowler and Harrington respectively.  Hibbz picked Jamie Donaldson who was the third player to shoot 67.  Nick Taylor finished with a 79 for the worst round while Davie's Scott Stallings finished last on +13.

Love it or hate it the Stadium course certainly garners opinion and most of it centres around the shortest hole on the course; the 137 yard par 3 17th.  Often the location of the sudden death playoffs the 17th will this time be part of a three hole playoff comprising of holes 16-18 should the need arise.  Sudden death will resume on the 17th if there is still a tie.

Lots of the top players are in attendance with 48 of the top 50 in the world rankings taking part.  Jordan Spieth isn't the headliner, again, as that falls to WGC World Match Play winner and world number one Rory McIlroy.  The two missing from the to 50 are Victor Dubuisson and Tommy Fleetwood who is now ranked number 50 a week too late after his Match Play exploits.  A total of 113 players from the top 200 are in attendance and Senior Players champion, Bernard Langer, is the lowest ranked player at 667 and the only one outside of the top 500.

Martin Kaymer is the defending champion; he had to work hard for the win after several rain delays.  He will be hoping to be the first man to win back to back titles in the 42 years the Players has been run.  There has only been six multiple winners and Jack Nicklaus has come the closest to defending having won it three times in a five year spell.  Hal Sutton, Fred Couples, Steve Elkington, Davis Love-III and Tiger Woods are the other players to have won it more than once.  Elkington has the second shortest time between wins with seven years separating his.  All the others have taken over 10 years to capture a second crown.  Out of those players only Woods is playing.  Other former winners who are in the field are Matt Kuchar, K.J. Choi, Henrik Stenson, Sergio Garcia, Phil Mickelson, Adam Scott, and Justin Leonard.  Recent missing winners in the last 10 years are the injured Tim Clark, Stephen Ames, and Fred Funk who has since graduated to the Seniors tour.

There are three Categories where you will need pick three players, plus reserve, from each one.  There are bonus points available if you get all of your picks through in any category.  Get all 9 picks through and you get an even bigger bonus.  It's all way down at the bottom in the scoring section if you are interested.

This is a full field with cut event, cut points will be available; see above.

RULES

Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 9 players as follows:

Pick 3 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.

Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).

If there is a tie after all 9 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.

Order of Merit: The person with the most total points at the completion of the season will be declared the Fantasy League Champion. If there is a tie for total points at the completion of the season, those involved will be declared Co-Champions.

Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be eligble for points for all completed rounds and making the cut if they withdraw after the cut. It must be apparent that the player completed their round for them to be eligible for either the low round, worse round, top 5, or top 10 low round scores.  If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.

Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply.  Example: Pick 3 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4, 5, and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1, 3, and 7, reserve 5 from Category B, players 1, 2 and 17, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.

Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.

Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.

All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

Does anyone know if Casey has recovered from - as he so delightfully put it - seeing his lunch again on Saturday night? vomit  Might influence my picks this week! And what time's (BST) kick-off at Sawgrass?

A bumper set of points for a lot of Fantasy Leaguers after all four of the Low Round scorers were picks and two other picks made it into the Top 5 Low Round scores.  Both BlueCoverman and SirBenson had a Low Round Scorer and another Top 5 pick.  1GrumpyGolfer, AlciG, Beninho, Boyhyde, CJB, Super_Realist, and TheCleaver all had one of the various Low Round Scorers.  Eyetoldyouso, McLaren, and Sand all had a Top 5 pick.

At the other end of the leaderboard two other picks struggled in round 1 and they had the Worst Round Score.  Boyhyde proved very adept at picking a wrong 'un as he had both of them.  1GrumpyGolfe, Barragan, Davie, I'm Never Wrong, LadyPutt, Pedro, Raycastleunited, and RedRage also had one of the duffers.

The Low Round score was 67 and Kevin Na, Charley Hoffman, Hideki Matsuyama, and David Hearn all shot that number.  The Worst Round score was 79 and Gary Woodland and Paul Casey both accumulated that number.  Scores of 68 or lower got you into the Top 5 Low Round scores.

We started with 67 picks and now we're down to 42. The carnage in round 2 meant that cut bonuses were in short supply. Four Fantasy Leaguers earned a bonus for Category A, two for Category B, and four for Category C. SirBenson and AlciG doubled up on bonuses and it's no surprise that they are at the top of the leaderboard having lost one and two picks respectively.

CJB also has seven picks make it through to the weekend and he shares third place with BlueCoverman who has six picks remaining. Other Fantasy Leaguers with six picks left are Davie, EmmDee57, RedRage, and SetupDetermines. Those with 5 picks left include 1GrumpyGolfer, Beninho, Hibbz, Pedro, Sand, and Super_Realist. Those with four picks include Eyetoldyouso, I'm Never Wrong, kouchi, Kwinigofler, McLaren, and TheCleaver. Those with just three picks left include Barragan, Boyhyde, LadyPutt, and Raycastleunited.

The Low Round for the day was a 65 by Jerry Kelly. Jason Day ended up with an 81 for the Worst Round; TheCleaver picked Day. The cut fell at Even par.

Twelve players shot 68 or lower in Round 3 and five of those were picks. Surprisingly, or it was to me, only ten Fantasy Leaguers picked up points and three of them had two picks score well in Round 3. LadyPutt and SetupDetermines made strides up the leaderboard courtesy of their two picks. Davie earned the most points by having two picks score well and one pick score badly; Scott Stallings's 82 meant that he comfortably wrapped up the worst round. The other Fantasy Leaguers to score were 1GrumpyGolfer, Beninho, CJB, EmmDee57, Kwinigolfer, Sand, and TheCleaver.

For the second day in a row 65 was the Low Score and this time it was Justin Thomas.

Fantasy League 2015 - Spring/Summer Session - Event #01 The Players Empty Re: Fantasy League 2015 - Spring/Summer Session - Event #01 The Players

Post by 1GrumpyGolfer Mon 11 May 2015, 1:46 pm

Apologies for the late updates. I was travelling down to Myrtle Beach as the Players was going on making stops in Baltimore, Fredericksburg, Goldsboro, and finally Myrtle Beach. We arrived about the same time Tropical Storm/Depression Ana was arriving too; thankfully she seems to have peed off elsewhere and blue skies are back.

I wasn't planning on doing Quail Hollow as updates will probably be few and far in between but if you can live with that I can post the event tomorrow morning.

You missed a remarkable finish to the tournament Grumps.

I'd say don't worry about timeliness of updates, it's great just to "play the game"! thumbsup

Well done sirb clap

After that finish, I think we all need a rest and as I'm away next weekend, it's one less thing to worry about. Are we doing the BMW at Wentworth the week after? It's about time we did an ET event!
