First topic message reminder :

On the one hand we see that Saracens fill Wembley whenever they play there. Begs the question why not play there all the time? I mean that put's them at the number sports club in the country for attendances.

Then we sere this article quoting Wray :

Look, for me it is as plain as day, the only club that is actually competing with the French clubs on the field is the club with the biggest debt. This is what happens when you get into this frame of mind, and as long as you have a rich owner you should be fine, but it is also obvious that rules are being broken, and this is two finger up towards the establishment and a statement of intent to take on the French monopoly.

You could look at this both ways, you could either see Saracens as trial blazers and heroes of the day proving what needs to be done to hold back the French club tide, or you could see them as trouble makers, power hungry egomaniacs, but never has the saying been more true, one mans terrorist, is another mans freedom fighter.

Either way, the innocent one's in rugby will suffer.

The main vibe of the Wembley days is about having a day out and hopefully attracting a few fans on the way - hence the pop star, the choir and dancing girls, etc. in fairness the Mexican Wave only started when there was a long break in the play and petered out once the game restarted.
As per usual Sarries being Sarries counldn't help themselves though and did a nice reversion to the 1970's when the match ball was brought onto the pitch by four young ladies in bikinis wearing sashes emblazoned with the Saracens "core values" of Work Rate, Honesty, Discipline and Humility, unfortunately the one with "Women are not objects" must have been in the wash that Saturday. A fine lesson for all the rugby playing girls who were there and for the Saracens Womens team about their place at the club.

They don't seem to care that all their old fans, and the fans of most real rugby clubs are repulsed by all this carp. All they do is attract football-esque punters. The game is not better for it.

Oh right, so Saracens didn't disenfranchise thousands of fans in their all out mission to reach the top of English rugby, they haven't turned the sport into a bloody circus (including playing regular season matches abroad) in order to attract a whole new generation worth of revenue and they're not operating at a whopping £41M in debt?

I'm sorry for appearing slightly aloof....

As for the girls with the sashes - I did think it was a bit silly.

Was a big fan of Pixie Lott though. thumbsup

Jimpy two sides to every coin. Remember not every club is built around a specific city like Gloucester,Bath,Leicester and Northampton.

London Clubs in general have the toughest job in my opinion. Firstly getting a top notch stadium is a nightmare because the battle for space is fierce.

London Irish don't have their own stadium. London Welsh - forced to Oxford and badly struggling. Wasps - forced to Coventry. Quins are the only ones doing financially well and that's ironically mainly thanks to an ex Saracen, Mark Evans.

Saracens financial debt of £41m is not great agreed but Saracens now have their own stadium (a huge upgrade on Vicarage Road).

Regular matches were only played abroad when the stadium was being built.
