Budget - An Election winner ??

Must confess until I get home I can't really comment fully..............I'll have a closer look then.....

Good or Bad ??..................You think it'll resonate .......

Winner? No.

Good? Yes.

Reading the (typically leftist) Beeb comments is fun though. YouGov run a quick poll of whether people thought they'd be better off over the next 12-18 months off the back of the budget. 1 in 3 Tories but only 1 in 7 Labs said yes.

Which tells you that Labs are made up of public sector workers and benefit bums (neither of whom are helped at all by this budget) whilst Tories are made up of pensioners, workers, tax payers and savers (all of whom will benefit from this budget).

Gideon left himself open on the NHS. Labour have failed in everything else they've tried to attack Tories on so expect this to be the area they'll go for the jugular on to win the election - if DC/GO thought Tory policy was strong on the NHS then they would have defended it. That they didn't tells you it's a soft spot. Labour should attack it with everything they've got......

Dropped the ball big time for me. Savers (You know those making enough money to put some away) get a helping hand, the poorest do too (As they should) but those just scraping by get nothing again.

Daft as it seems the Cons just lost my vote over that budget.

I am standing in Worcester as a council candidate for Labour so obviously my views on this budget are not positive

In the ward i am standing in Labour has not won since 2007 but the sitting tory spends most of his time in USA selling arms etc so i think ive got half a chance

Do savers really benefit?

You need 60k of savings to save yourself £200 a year of tax on your interest. Brilliant.

The tax system is just too complicated - people don't really know what budgets mean for them. Plus a lot of these changes are set for the future not now.

1p off a pint of beer, wow fantastic - no benefit to the man on the street that, will it ease a burden on pubs - under 1/3rd of a percent less tax on one of several income streams?

No mention of the NHS which is the country's biggest employer and something that the vast majority of the public access.

How about knocking some fuel duty off and not a bloody penny. Oil prices have fallen and petrol is 20p a litre cheaper, no wonder people have a few quid left over to spend and boost the economy.

Road tax is electronic and you don't get a tax disc made or posted out anymore. Costs cut and prices up for 32 million cars in the uk and all extra skimmed to the treasurey.

Also the fact that only 2/10 of all canvassed in that poll think they'll be better off is damning regardless of party ratios.

Always thought a simple but effective policy would be to charge 18-65 (retirement) year old £15 for a visit to the GP. Would cut out time wasters (people there with a cold), lessen strain on GP's so they can spend more time on people who need it, and provide some extra wonga for the coffers

Yeah but then someone dies or has a late diagnosis because they didn't go as they couldn't afford the £15 and it all kicks off.

And be the party who removed 'free at the point of delivery' from NHS access? Political suicide.

Also, I've heard it many times that nobody really expects this sort of thing to make much money, considering administration cost. But to not be able to make a profit from people giving you money seems quite shocking.

Sod lessening the strain on GPs. Their contract, which Labour bent over for, is a massive joke and has totally f*cked up the NHS, A&E in particular.

Do like the French system of paying 30% for your treatment, and then claiming back (fairly painlessly, I understand) from the goverment up to the full 30%, depending on your circumstances. GP clinics and A&E's are full of timewasters, something needs to be sorted out as it's a mess right now.

Because for me personally there has been no upside to the cons being in power for the last few years. I've watched the MPs get a pay rise whilst mine has been effectively cut. Watched expenses get more ridiculous for everyone else whilst MP's still get to claim for crap. No real improvement to living conditions for anyone other than the super rich and haven't seen any of the major tax loopholes closed.

As for the NHS, you can't start charging people as the poorer people just won't go which will cost the NHS more in the long run. First thing we should do though is make it fair throughout and stop giving the scots and the welsh free prescriptions OR make it free for the whole of the UK (have never understood why this isn't classed as discrimination)

Suppose you could say yes I am,

The public sector needs an overhaul badly BUT if your going to state to all that you have to have a pay freeze (or minimal pay rise) for the good of the country (something which I originally agreed with) then the MPs have to lead by example.

Because his friends going to charge the government three times what it pays you to replace you when uncle Kumquat george cuts your job and he wants to laugh at you.

Seen them do that already with the armed forces (why make a load of people redundant, pay for them to be retrained to do something else yet continue to recruit in them areas???)

Good for you by the way Wheelchair, you should make a thread stating what you've done been up to and how it's all gone. I'd be interested in it anyway.

A lot of the contracts need overhauling IMO and things like subsidised bars etc in the HOC need unsubsidising. My dissalusionment is with MP's stating how we're all in it together whilst lording it up and complaining about their wages.

Yeah it would be great to get a first hand idea of what is happening on the doors...Wheels.

Put together then a 7 day shop for us (that's healthy too, don't want the NHS picking up the tab for the obese) for 2 adults and 2 kids for less than 50 quid.

I'm not taking the mick either, i've been looking at trying to do this for months and have found it impossible.

I could probably get everything from co op but the assumption is that if they are not working they could spend an hour or so walking to get to a half decent supermarket. The Gurkhas/Nepalese around us love a long walk to tescos.

Packed lunch Sean, 1 full sandwich, piece of fruit, 1 chocolate bar (little kind) and no added sugar cordial (we get Asda's own)

Mine are 7 Dolph, up to 5 they get them and of course if your on benefits or under an earning threshold.


Just been informed by the missus as well that for anyone that's interested it would be 22 quid a week for the pair of them.
