Brown vs Lawler Empty Brown vs Lawler

Post by Rinsure Fri 25 Jul 2014, 12:12 pm

Oh man, bring it on.

I genuinely cannot wait for this fight. It's a five rounder - can anyone really see it going a full five? If the judges have to earn their corn in this one I'll be amazed.

So, who's going to win?

I'm a fan of both, shame one has to lose, but so be it. Probably the heart says Brown, but the head says Lawler. As would my wallet were I to be a betting man.

Lawler by stoppage, second round. Guess a body shot.

Thoughts?

Oh, and it's a pretty cool rest of the card too: Rumble vs Lil Nog (who seems to actually be making it to the fight), and the Punk fighting too. Should be a top night!

Lots of very strong cards recently. I love Lawler. Think he's a born fighter and I was so disappointed to see him fairly beaten by Big Rig. Think he should boss Brown who has struggled with the cut according to reports.

Struggling with the cut was right... Lawler was in control for the vast majority of this fight. Brown has a he'll of a chin though!

Would love to see Lawler be much more aggressive against Hendricks next time around. He has better hands than anyone in that division.

I thought lawler looked exposed in a couple of the rounds. Round 2 I thought Brown could have finished it when he had Lawler on the ground but he went for a choke when he should have just pounded him.

I had it a draw. had it 2 rounds a piece going into round 5 and thought it was a draw.

I'm looking forward to Hendricks v Lawler II. I think Big Rigs' inactivity since the first fight will work against him this time.

Also, how good does Rumble Johnson look at 205? Scary

I don't think he looked exposed at all, this was a fight between 2 evenly matched fighters with Brown imo having the bigger skill set or the more rounded fighter, Lawler looked to keep it standing & just punch for the majority of the fight. When you have a 50/50 fight anything can & does happen

I had it a draw. had it 2 rounds a piece going into round 5 and thought it was a draw.

I saw the fight already knowing the result so its difficult to watch it impartially, it was a close fight, but Lawler had the better conditioning, did more damage & his strikes seemed to have more effect as the fight went on.

Add to that that Lawler must surely realize he just didn't do enough last time and knows what he has to do to win it this time. When he threw the odd kick last time he had success, lets hope he does more this time.

Yeah Johnson was scary, some serious power & intent, he's got to be next in line for a shot at the LHW title. Not sure I ever saw him fight at 170 seems crazy that he ever did!

Yeah I think Johnson is 1 fight away from a title shot. He'll have to be patient though as Gus is next in line.

I could see Rumble v Evans in once Rashad recovers.

I thought it was a great fight. Props to both for going the distance. As everyone else has stated, Lawler won it; for once the judges got it right! I thought Brown had the second, and looked like he had Lawler in trouble against the fence with some tasty elbow / knee work, but then Lawler exploded out of it spectacularly. Great work by both.

Lawler's been busy fighting while Johnny has been recovering. Lawler will be sharper, I reckon.

Interesting that while the first defence of Hendrick's belt will be a rematch, Lawler has put in the work to earn it.

Hmmm. Barao?

Anyway. Thought Rumble looked scary. I wouldn't want to be getting in the octagon with him, and I reckon Gus, JBJ and the rest will all be looking hard to find a weakness in his game!

Lower down the card I thought Bermudez looked impressive; efficient, powerful and tight. Not easy to look that good against Guida.

Did Bermudez deserve to climb so far up the rankings though? From 12th to 7th.

Impressive performance all the same. Featherweight is definitely one of the most exciting divisions now.

I'm gutted Clay lost. Love that guy. He reminds me of Blanka from Street Fighter.

He is a great character to have. Loved his comment to McGregor a few months ago:

Id like to feed him a chest hair sandwich from a mullet with a caveman attached to it

Lawler vs Brown was a fun fight and I thought Lawler clearly won albeit competitive.

I thought Lawler would have finished Brown but Brown showed again how tough he is.

I would favour Lawler against Hendricks as others had said as I think he'll be very sharp and Hendricks wouldn't have fought in 9 months.

Johnson will surely fight for the title soon the way he is going. He is very strong and has the confidence to go with it.

Gus vs Johnson makes no sense as it will knock of a contender and Jones is running of so I reckon Gus and Johnson will fight lower ranked guys and wait in line for their shot.
