I don't have a clue about Lawn Bowls, but England are 10-0 up....surely a good thing?
Twenty Gold medals are to be won today.

Re: The 2014 Commonwealth Games, Glasgow
Interesting that 17 year old Morgan Lake posted a score in winning the World Juniors that would have comfortably won bronze and would have pushed Zelinka for silver.
I can't imagine how good she could be if she continues to improve. Interestingly, she seems to buck the trend of our recent heptathletes because she seems a very good thrower and it's perhaps the hurdles and 200m that are her weaker events.

And so they should.
You have plenty of world class athletes and most have performed very well.
So much money has been poured into training and development from before the lead up to the London Olympics.
I saw a graph somewhere once showing a similar thing for Australia after the 2000 Olympics. The benefits of such a boost into the coffers were still strong during the Athens 2004 games but started to taper off by Beijing 2008.
Australia take out the Gold and Bronze in the javelin.

I am shocked though because pre games the odds on every uk nation getting more golds than aus was 5/1...
The spread on aus golds was 77 and 40 for England.

1-2-3 for the British girls in the gymnastics all-around. Was lovely to see the other two girls quite so excited when Fragapane got a big enough score to win the gold, despite the fact it was them that were getting knocked down in position.

Re: The 2014 Commonwealth Games, Glasgow
Commonwealth medal tables are always influenced by the fact that the events can be more easily manipulated around to suit certain nations.
Since Delhi they cut out half of the shooting, half the wrestling, tennis and archery which screws India royally and then added Judo, Triathlon and Para-Sport which is very good for the home nations.
When the next event is in Australia, they're dropping Judo which will bring Australia much closer and adding Basketball - which isn't many medals but it'll be guarantees for the hosts.

England cruising to a finish at the top now. Golds in every sport for England is still a good possibility, whilst a half-century of gold, or more, looks very likely.

I think I love the Scottish high jumper Jayne Nisbet. Keeping an eye out for a mate of mine in the relay tonight, they'll do well to qualify though unfortunately.

England heartbroken in the netball, and hammered in the hockey. Oh well.
Tom Daley still struggling with his "demon dive" in the preliminaries.

Congrats to Barnes and Conlan. Danny Boy is beautiful, I can't see how anyone would be offended by it (wish the football team would use it) so Paddy's antics annoyed me a bit.

Re: The 2014 Commonwealth Games, Glasgow
I preferred it when youse used Land of Hope and Glory. Anyway, that could be used as the UK anthem as it's about the country. Jerusalem of England's. I'd keep GSTQ as the royal anthem but to me as a national anthem it does not inspire. It's to a person.
In a country like NI with its problems, Danny Boy is something no one should have a problem with. Which is why Paddy Barnes mouthing off that it's "not my anthem" narks me. It's harmless, and a folk song for crying out loud. Better to say nothing if that's your view. Sport here has a great power to unite, look at what Barry McG, wee things like that don't help!

To be fair to him he has clarified that situation a bit on his Twitter. And it shouldn't take away from its success. But Danny Boy is for everyone, and it's for precisely that reason we use it as the Commonwealths. So it is!

Re: The 2014 Commonwealth Games, Glasgow
Just read this on the BBC live text:
"Which Tom Daley will we see? The 2010 Commonwealth champion or the nervy 2014 Commonwealth first-round struggler? It wasn't pretty at all from Daley earlier. His yips over the back two and a half twister mean that he finished bottom of the qualification standings."
Funny that, I thought he finished top of the qualification standings. Someone should pay better attention!

Re: The 2014 Commonwealth Games, Glasgow
Looking at the dive scores- Unless the others are saving tougher dives they do not seem close to Daley's top dives, It should be a walk in the park for him.

Even with three iffy legs, Jamaica producer the world leading time, as well as the Games Record.. Bolt is rapid. Team South Africa set a national record, which is very impressive, given the fact that we weren't at full strength, looking forward to the Olympics, we are catching up rapid at the short distances.

Didn't realise Khotso Mokoena one a gold as well - that's a full house of international meet medals. Probably our greatest ever athlete, hope he can get something going for the Olympics.

Bronze in the cycling. that's 40 medals, up seven from 2010, which is impressive because funding isn't up from 2010

Re: The 2014 Commonwealth Games, Glasgow
Even though it was our worst performance since 1986, I still really enjoyed these Glasgow Games.
Well done England for topping the tally and also Scotland for coming 4th!
At least we still lead the all-time medal count:
Australia: 853 Gold; 714 Silver; 650 Bronze - 2217 medals overall
England: 669 Gold; 670 Silver; 669 Bronze - 2008 medals overall

Well done to Glasgow for serving up a fabulous, friendly games.
And well done to Team England for a superb all-round performance which shall give us much optimism for Rio 2016 (with or without the Scottish!).

Yes England performed very well so well done to them. Scotland hosted a fantastic games and I hope they get the independence they deserve. Well done to the Welsh athletes who did us proudDuty281 wrote:Well done to Glasgow for serving up a fabulous, friendly games.

Yep Scottish independence all the way. Then, not too far away in Churchill's good time, England can have her own independence; it is England, after all, that suffers the most from being part of the United Kingdom.

Yes funnily enough I was talking to ex MP Adam Price the other day and we both reiterated what he said on Question Time a few years back. England deserves it's independence and we hope you get itDuty281 wrote:Yep Scottish independence all the way.
