We did it, finally lifted the cup. No club has won more FA cups than the mighty and famous Arsenal. Interesting and at times very difficult year. We finished with more points than last year, and lead the league for most of the year. Unfortunately, again a rash of injuries to key players in particular Ramsey and Walcott really impacted the clubs form.


Negatives:

-collapsed in the league race
-failed to win our group in the CL league
-massive butt kickings of 6-0 and 5-1 on the road to Chelsea and Liverpool
-huge number of injuries again this year

Positives:
-won the Cup for a record tying 11th time
-qualified for CL league again
-signed our first mega transfer superstar in years
-stopped selling our stars
-new commercial deals all but insure that the Emirates is pretty much paid off and we have money in the kitty
-the revelation of Ramsey and the continued development of younger stars
-and for the 13th year in a row got out of the group stages of the CL

In short an up and down year that when you step back and look at the big picture shows the club heading in the right trajectory. Still more needs to be invested if we want to have any hope of beating team Abu Dhabi and Chelski in league and getting that all important first CL crown.

OH PS we beat the Spuds 3 times in a year as well.

Wenger has come pretty close in the past back in 06 and we weren't really that far off of Barca in that game plus a couple of semi appearances. I think we are a world class striker and a couple of good signings away from contending for the biggest trophies the league and CL. I think if the talent is there Wenger can lead them to that title. The question for me is more about whether Wenger is willing to spend 80-100 million in transfer fees for a couple of season and stockpile enough talent to challenge Munich, PSG, and Madrid. Because we do have a strong base of homegrown players yet to beat those kind of teams we will need an infusion of big money talent from the transfer market. You may be right but I am pretty happy with the direction of the club and am willing to see if Wenger will spend in the next window or two before joining the ranks of the Wenger out club.

The lack of viable replacements for Wenger is a big issue as well. As Manchester United have shown if you get the wrong man in, the results could be devastating. Off the top of my head, I'd only like to see Klopp or Martinez come in as a replacement, and they won't be available this summer.

I actually don't think Giroud was that bad. Isolated for long periods against 3 CBs.

Giroud improved as the game went on. He was awful in the first half but got better in the second and in extra time.
I actually thought he looked a lot more comfortable once Arsenal went into 4-4-2 and he had Sanogo alongside him.
Sanogo is a fascinating player. He looks like someone who barely knows how to play the sport yet can be somehow quite effective.
Hull looked like a team that didn’t really know what to do once they found themselves 2-0 up. They were never expecting that scenario so looked short of ideas at that point. You always felt Arsenal would find a way back despite that poor start.
Good to see Ramsey get the winner. Great finish to what has been an excellent if unfulfilled season for him.

Yeah Walcotts willing to run beyond him and stretch the defense. Without him it got a bit static and he and Ozil struggled.

Good comment, I thought Giroud also had a very poor first half but when Arsenal did bring on Sanogo it seemed to give him more space. He hit the post, forced a couple of tough saves from the keeper and then assisted the game winner. I mean if his header was literally an inch lower on the cross bar people would be lauding him as the cup hero. Sanogo also to me shows bags of potential although in his few appearances this year he hasn't scored he did create quite a few problems for Hull when he came on. His strength, pace, and energy are a rare package. Yet he still has to gain a bit of touch and poise on the ball. I'd like to see him loaned out to one of the promoted Championship teams where he gets consistent time.

With all that said I would like to see the addition of a pacey forward that gives Arsenal another gear and more versatility up top for next season. I think Giroud is a good premier league striker who is vastly underrated in his passing and ability to bring goals for the midfielders, but he is slow and can be a bit wasteful of chances at time.

Arsenal are on the verge of making a new signing — with German national team fitness coach Shad Forsythe reportedly close to being appointed.

Forsythe is considered to be one of the best fitness coaches in world football and has been working with the Germans for almost a decade.

The move comes after Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis assured supporters that there would be a thorough investigation into both how and why the club have such a poor injury record.

At one point last season Arsene Wenger’s men topped the Premier League injury table with 13 players in the London Colney treatment room, including lengthy absences to star men Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Özil and Theo Walcott.

Sanchez has taken Nacho Monreal's squad number of 17. Kieran Gibbs will wear number 3 next season. As it stands Monreal doesn't have a number.

I am loving this Alexis signing he gives us the pace and technique up front that we have been lacking. Great signing, I think this should placate some of the people who claim that ARsenal don't want to win and don't want to spend money.

Debuchy confirmed as well. I am glad because I honestly do believe that he will be better than Sagna as dependable as he was he wasn't worth what he was asking for. I think if we can complete a signing for a quality defensive midfielder we will be one of the top 3 contenders for the title. I wish we would have signed Cesc to be honest, this has been a good window but we should have used our inside track and brought him in regardless of having loads of players in that position. We could have played with a false number 9 in either Cesc or Alexis and made it work.

Even though Cesc would have been great I would rather we spent the 30 mil on Khediera as he is what we need more.

I give Chelsea the edge too but there isn't much in it at all. Arsenal will probably start with Giroud up top with Sanchez and Walcott on either side, Ozil central.
Wonder if Jose will favour Willian or Schurrle. The Brazilian offers a better all round game while the German offers a more direct goal threat.

Let's face it Olly, Sagna could pick out the 1st man at a cross 95% of the time Debuchy can't be that bad at crossing it's just not possible. John says he's a terrible at defending but hopefully he'll spend less time doing that at the emirates.
