Darren Barker Conundrum - Win 10 rounds or knock sturm out !!

Problem with having no charisma....and being a tough sell.....Is you end up losing purse bids and fighting in Germany..............

Can Barker win 10 rounds or can he stop Sturm...........Surely that's the only way he can win.........

Is he good enough.............I think he may be just good enough............To force a stoppage late......

I though both Geale and Murray did pretty favourably from the judges against Sturm in Germany. Since the Macklin fight Sturm has suffered a bit of a backlash. I suspect its Sturm who might be worried he needs a KO now.

In fairness, since Murray Sturm has lost two decisions on home turf, so maybe the German judges/public etc have lost patience with him?

Hopefully Darren can get the nod (I don't think he can get a stoppage) and set up a big Brit fight with Murray.

This is for a new world title though............Whilst you guys are right to point out the decisions..

Strum must be thanking his lucky stars it's not in blighty. He'd have to win 12 rounds and avoid getting a single punch in the face for fear he gets stopped.

sometimes the british scorecards get over looked because the brit deserved to win.

but look at the Kessler froch cards...did Kessler have any chance at all?

Firstly, this wasn't a lose your purse bid kind of situation. Barker is making 1 million quid for this (reported), so he absolutely doesn't care about going to Germany. They let it go that way for the money and rightly so as that sets him up for life.

As to the fight. Be close, but Barker should be able to out point him. Draw wouldn't surprise me either

As were his fights against Geale and Murray, while his fight against Soliman was an eliminator. Unlike a few German fighters he hasn't benefitted from any poor judging from what I remember, the Macklin fight could have gone either way.

the draw should definitely be taken up as a cover bet for anyone backing the winner in this one. would set up a rematch nicely without barker losing his belt

SAT1, the German channel Sturm is contracted to wanted the fight in Germany and so they paid Barker seven figures to make the trip - didn't lose purse bids.

If anyone has had the rub of the green (judging-wise) recently it's probably Barker.

There's already a clause for a return in London but yes, draw looks a good bet here (can be found at 22-1).

Don't particularly find the British lads as anything special, so I believe Sturm may win this one.
Unless Howard Foster is the referee and he stops Sturm when the German fails to recite the national anthem in the prelims.

Might do, purely on good will. I think Froch's wins are better, but he isn't very popular right now.

Personally think Barker will just have too much for Sturm at this stage, Think he outboxs him and as previously mentioned Sturm doesn't get the easiest of rides in Germany so Barker should take a pretty clear decision.

Though if that much has been spent on bringing the fight to Germany you have to wonder if this time Sturm may get a gift.

Though judging on my Bellew to beat Stevenson prediction probably a good idea to lump on Sturm seeing as I've picked Barker.

I think a focused and fit sturm knocks him out. barker wont get away with the tactics he used against geale. sturm would take him to the cleaners. expect barker knows this though. expect it might be quite cagey

Two very evenly matched boxers. So much depends on how Darren has reacted to becomming a champion, it really can make some whilst others crumble. Tough first defence but I'm backing him by close points decision assuming he gets a fair shake.

And for anyone who thinks the Macklin fight wasn't a sham you only need to look at the cards, one judge had Sturm by five or six rounds!

Why do judges do that? That is, score close fights as near shut outs? Isnt that just telegraphing the fact that they are on the take/taking the urine? Why not score it close but in favour of the hometown guy. Im not advocating that as it would still be dishonest but some of the cards are like a slap in the face.

IM predicting Sturm via UD.

Want Barker to win and do well, but Sturm is a very good fighter and on his day is a tough tough guy.

I hope Barker goes over and puts in a great performance and keeps his belt, but something tells me that Sturm escapes with yet another close decision win.

He lost the purse bids end of.........No one is interested in the guy over here...If he could have got the money to stay he would.

In saying that it was Eddie who said Barker was getting a million. That means that Barker is really getting a one-way Ryanair flight, a monkey, a bag of chips and a can of Special Brew.
