Currie Cup 2013 Empty Currie Cup 2013

Post by Biltong Sat 10 Aug 2013, 4:01 pm

Currie Cup started last night, and Griquas beat Sharks in Durban in a very tight affair by 32-30.

Sharks outscored the Griquas in tries 3-2, but Nico Scheepers kept the score board ticking with a perfect record of 2 conversions and Six penalties.

Not the best match though, lots of errors in wet conditions.

This afternoon the Cheetahs managed to hold on against the Lions for a 30-29 victory in a match that saw lots of running and the Cheetahs scoring a try bonus point win.

Western Province will take on a new look Bulls team later this afternoon.

Been so disappointed with the sharks this season Biltong. Played so well last season, but have been too inconsistent and made far too many unforced errors Sad
On a separate note, why can't I seem to find there jerseys in the UK? Lol

Yeah mate, Sharks have been very poor this year.

But there has been a lot of changes at the Sharks and quite a bit of turmoil

Plumtree got let go by John Smit, new coaching staff appointed, at one stage they had 16 injuries and some players moved on.

Problem for them that really influenced them was the number if kong term injuries they had.

Bismarck, JP Pietersen, Beast, Frans Steyn, Ludick, Deysel, Jordaan and one of their locks (can't remember his name right now) played very little rugby this season.

Yes the whole Plumtree thing has been a farce. I always respected Smit as a player, but the way the whole thing was handled was a disgrace.
I take on board what you say about the injuries, but I would expect any squad player to be able to pass, catch and not give away endless penalties for offside and sealing off the ruck!
That said they'll always be my favourite SA team. Onwards and upwards

Buggeration.
Not sure why, but Currie Cup is not being shown on tv here this season. Hard for me to follow if not on tv. I always look forward to watching as it as it keeps me connected to younger players coming up or older players with a point to prove. The finals are usually terrific events, that English clubs could learn something from.

The Bulls managed to score a late try to end up with a draw against Province.

So overall a very interesting weekend with three very cloe games.

I hav to say though, the Currie Cup in my view is a great comp, loads of running rugby on offer, teams not afraid to put the ball through thechands.

Cheslin Kolbe the little fullback form SA U20 made his debut for Province this weekend and has a solid enough start. The man has some seeious skills, a bit small though.

Elton Jantjies' younger brother made his debut for the Bulls, looks he might just be better than Elton.

lets cut the crap. the currie cup is now a second rate competition. Any one of the Aviva premership, top 14, and rabo teams could win the curry cup at a canter.

The top players are tied to the springboks, the players below that level are playing in Europe so the currie cup is basically a development league is it not?

no, the SuperXV players are still playing Xurrie Cup, you are thinking of the Vodacom Cup.

Have to say Biltong is right, watched all three games this w/end and would have to say that it is much more than a development league.

Excellent match between Lions and Sharks at the Shark Tank tonight.

Sharks won 33-25 both teams scoring 3 tries, Lions denied a try in the final minute due to an accidental offside.
