My superband - help me!
Cream are achknowledged as the 1st supergroup so I decided to make my own.
Drums - Ginger Baker of Cream or Mitch Mitchall of the experiance
Bass - Flea of Red hot chilli peppers or the bassist from Queen
Lead guitar - Hard 1 this between Jimi Hendrix or Page
Piano or Keyboard - Elton John or Freddie Murcury or Stevie Wonder
Vocals - Goning for an R&B sound that fits well with rock undecided
Spoons - My mate Stelios from the chippy

Keyboard would be Steve Winwood for me, absolutely brilliant keyboard player. Steve Marriot has a great voice on him, would suit the style of music you seem to be wanting as well.

Jane Wieldlin from The Go-gos would be on the bass...The Bangles lead singer Susanna Hoffs would do the vocals.......I can play a little drums............Tony Banks from Genesis is both keyboard player and camcord holder..........so he can record..........

Janis Joplin would make it into my band and Joss Stone but they are the only Woman I can think of.

Janis Joplin ???????????...............Weird taste........
Joss Stone looked pretty good a few years ago when she went to America for two weeks...came back and a had a thick Californian accent...
Wonder If they'll let her go to China anytime soon..

Re: My superband - help me!
Joplin is a good shout depending on the vocal sound you want, though can't say I'd have Joss anywhere near a supergroup.
Slightly contentious but I'd probably have CSNY as the first supergroup where all 4 members come from highly successful groups. Always felt with Cream you had Clapton and then not disputing the talent of Bruce or Baker but the Graham Bond Organisation wasn't enough to give either superstar status for me.

Hendrix wouldn't work in a super group, it would just become the Jimi Hendrix experience!

Freddie Mercury lead singer for me, showman and incredible vocals, could sing anything.
Guitar - John Frusciante from the RHCP, some of the stuff he played were eargasmic

Reading through this shows me that my "superband" would be hated by most of the people in the thread haha

Re: My superband - help me!
It wouldn't include any of the people mentioned so far...they're all incredible talents...I just have a bit of a heavier music taste.
I've put some thought in to it and I'd probably have triple vocals, the first being Matt Tobin from Dead and Divine, amazing range with clean and screamed vocals and his lyrics are amazing, the second would be Bradley Walden from Squid The Whale, his clean vocals are amazing and he has the ability to make heavy music sound catchy with a real soul background to his vocals. The third vocalist would also be on guitar duty, I'd go with Brent Walsh, the lead singer of I, The Mighty...his vocals combing with Tobin's and Walden's would be amazing for me...I don't know who I'd go for the rest of the band but the music created would be a weird mix of pop, rock and southern metal with plenty weird timings and heavy moments thrown in.
For examples of all three guys
Matt Tobin (Dead and Divine - Sugar Sickness)
Bradley Walden (Squid The Whale - Bad Man)
Brent Walsh (I, The Mighty - Speak To Me)

Not exactly a "super" band considering they're not exactly house hold names haha

Re: My superband - help me!
Would the yardbirds count as it had Eric clapton at first then Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page in the band.
Im sure at one point im sure there was Beck, Page, John Paul Jones, and Keith Moon playing together before Beck went solo.

It's Cliff not Clive.VDT wrote:Singer - Chris Cornell - Soundgarden

As for Vinnie on Drums...jeez, I'd rather have Lars Ulrich. Seriously, Vinnie's OK but there are better drummers out there...Gene Hoglan?
Problem is, you get the best musicians and they can't do a damn thing together because they all perform in a different style. John Garcia (Kyuss/Slo Burn/Unida/Hermano) isn't going to be able to sing with Nick Barker (Cradle of Filth/Lock Up) on drums

Re: My superband - help me!
Mitch Mitchell is a good call for drummer, but I've always rated Kenney Jones of the Small Faces. And I think people forget how good a drummer Dave Grohl was.
I'd have McCartney on bass every day of the week.

Have been listening to Traffic a lot of late. Jim Capaldi is an absolutely brilliant drummer. Have also been listening a lot of Blind Faith and Cream, Ginger Baker is also brilliant. Good shout on Jones though LP, vastly underrated drummer.

Re: My superband - help me!
I bought a Traffic 'Best Of' a few months ago, but I haven't listened to it properly. 'Paper Sun' is good, it gets away with the psychedelic sound whereas 'Hole in my Shoe' is a bit trapped in time, if that makes sense.

Re: My superband - help me!
Hole in My Shoe is for me one of the weaker songs, as you say has aged quite badly. However their eponymous album is absolutely brilliant, as is John Barleycorn must Die.
Steve Winwood is brilliant. All three bands he was in during the sixties are absolutely brilliant, great keyboard player and singer.

Lindsey Buckingham was good, unfortunate to miss out to Cobain.

Re: My superband - help me!
I watched a documentary on Steve Winwood recently. I love the setup Traffic had, the house in the country, just jamming and smoking 'jazz cigarettes'. I'd be happy enough with that!

Re: My superband - help me!
My group at the minute would be
Drummer - Jim Capaldi
Bass - John Entwistle
Guitar - John Squire
Keyboard - Steve Winwood
Vocals - Either Steve Marriott or Reg King
Had to put King in otherwise Tina would not have opportunity to slag me off for being obscure for the sake of it.

Re: My superband - help me!
Wow difficult one...some great "bands" above....
As an alternative one how about something like:
Lead Vocals: Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam)
Lead Guitar: Dave Murray (Iron Maiden)
Dual Lead / Guitar: Lindsay Buckingham (Fleetwood Mac)
Bass Guitar: Steve Harris (Iron Maiden)
Drums: Stewart Copeland (The Police)
