I see the formatting tools when creating posts have been changed slightly.

For some reason I'm now getting extra high rows on my table. Anyone have any idea how to fix?

That is a very good site for showing a live version of the rankings, but it doesn't give any further analysis as to what might happen during the tournament, or a place to discuss it... which is the point of this thread. Very Happy

If any admins or moderators read this, I think there is a problem with the way the forum is interpreting the formatting code.

My French Open table is still formatted correctly at the moment. But if I go to "edit" and then "preview" without changing a single thing, the preview is all messed up with weird gaps, just like the table in this thread.

Help?! Is there anything you can do on the back end? Erm

A quick summary of the biggest points losses so far this tournament...

Florian Mayer and Phillip Kohlschreiber are both out after reaching the quarter finals last year. Kohlscreiber is currently down 4 places, and Mayer down roughly 16. Mayer is now likely to finish the fortnight outside the top 50.

Also losing plenty of points are Mardy Fish (poor guy), Dennis Istomin, and Xavier Malisse. They all reached the fourth round last year. Fish is down about 17 places, Istomin also roughly 17, and Malisse approximately 23 places!

One more win for Ferrer and he should be no 3 (barring Federer winning the whole thing) then. Interesting as I believe his career high ranking is no 4. (Source Wikipedia and ATP).

It gets even more interesting in the run up to the USO. Ferrer has a shot at being no 2! And Federer will have his work cut out to remain in the top 4, if he doesn't drop out straight after Wimbledon.

These are the minimum points for the top 5 before the USO (but not including DC which is too complicated, and doesn't change things much).
Djokovic 9240 +45
Ferrer      6850 +45
Nadal      6860 +10
Murray    6430 +45
Federer   4290 +45

There are potentially up to 4000 points to be added (Wimbledon, Canada, Cinci), so apart from no 1, which shouldn't change, there is alot to play for.

Crazy happenings!

I normally only monitor the top 100 in the world, but we already have 4 players in the last 32 who are ranked outside the top 100. Kubot, Mannarino, Brown, and Stakhovsky. I'm going to have to take a look at them and see what sort of gains they might make.

I, personally took a look at Brown's possible gains myself earlier, as far as I can work out (very roughly) he is currently 188 but his win today should fire him up around 40 places.

Yup, has to be a tournament win for Berdych. Unfortunately for Tomas he's in Nole's quarter, so it will be tough for him to get beyond the QF.

If he could get past Djoko though, then a final would be enough for him to pass Federer when the Olympic points drop off, and a semi-final would put him pretty darn close too.

This is the point where lydian and I - along with anyone else who has tickets - begin to get concerned about Federer and the ATP race! Realistically though, he should still be fine to make the WTF.

You do wonder about Roger's chances now though. I mean he look totaly lost at the end - no way did he see this coming or anyway he can 'spin' something positve from it

And his hardcourt form, wasn't particularly impressive earlier in the year, by his high standards

Such a bad loss... Raonic should be mullering everyone on grass with that serve.

Meh, he's a really, really, really, really ordinary player with a good serve. I think he's overweight too. A prime example of why a large increase in court speed is bad.

My prediction is Almagro or Janowicz to make a charge up the rankings. The draw's opened up for him.

Well, Melzer and Janowicz are the first men to make the 4th round, and they face each other next!

Janowicz is only up 1 place so far this week, but if he wins the match against Melzer he'll gain another 2 or 3 places (depending on whether Monaco wins his match).

After that it is quite a big gap, and Jerzy would only gain 1 more place if he reached the semi-final. If he could reach the final, though, that would poise him on the edge of the top 10.

1) Yup, I do.

2) Consider it a hobby, I suppose! I love tennis, and I'm also a very logical, mathematical person, so rankings and statistics are the kind of thing which interest me! I like to share it with everyone else. Wink

3) The initial setup took a while to create, but now it is all easy as cake. I store all of the info on an excel spreadsheet. I just update the winners and losers each day, and then click a "Convert to forum code" button which runs a script I created. That stores the excel table in the clipboard, in a format which the forums understand, and I just paste it into my thread. Cool

I'd like to have that level of technical expertise but, if I did, I'd probably use it to rank the WTA on hotness or something equally crass. So probably for the best that I've never acquired that know-how!

Much more difficult, as you'd have to have the embedded images as well.

BTW, I reckon on something like:

1 - Ana Ivanovic
2 - Julia ~~Gorgeous~~ Goerges
3 - Maria Kirilenko
4 - Daniella Hantuchova
5 - Sabine Lisicki

(MaSha probably only around the #10 position or so for me - don't really see what the fuss is about)

Haha... Each to their own I suppose! I've never really understood the whole Julia Görges thing.

For me, Sharapova and Ivanovic are a long way clear of everyone else. They are both stunning. But there are a lot of other good looking ladies too. As you mentioned Kirilenko, Hantuchova, Lisicki, are all good shouts... but what about Urszula Radwanska? I think she's pretty cute, and she hardly ever gets mentioned! Wink

Sorry Cogen, don't mean to be the bearer of bad news, but there is a glitch in the table.

Just near the top, just above Berdych...and you can see you have Roger Federer ranked at #5. I'm not sure how that could have happened, he is the GOAT after all, so he must be at least in the top #4. If you could fix that, cheers. Probably an error of some sort in your formula.

Suddenly a lot less available movement now that we are down to the final 4.

The top 5 ranking spots are now all confirmed.

Del Potro could move up to #6 by beating Djokovic, but wouldn't gain any immediate further boost by winning the title. (He'd be just 5 points shy of Federer!)

Janowicz will finish the week ranked either #17, #11, or #9.

With Federer likely to at least pick up some points on the clay, it sort of denies del Potro the chance if he won of going to Hamburg, bombing out after a single point, picking up 10 ranking points and hey presto, moving up a place Very Happy

I imagine that this is actually quite an important tournaments to Janowicz in terms of points and whilst they'll probably be a fall after Paris this year, it safeguards against it being a fall out the seedings etc.

Yeah, as it stands 62% of Jerzy's total points come from just Paris and Wimbledon. Could really do with some other decent tournaments to spread his eggs across many baskets. I'm sure he will. Top 10 player sooner rather than later I'm thinking.

The only question that remains is whether Murray will finish the tournament 320pts closer to Djokovic, or 1280pts further behind!

Yes, food for thought, if Murray wins the final he is holding 2 slams including arguably the most important, and the most recent, and the Olympics while Djokovic would only be holding 1 slam, and arguably the least important.

A Del Potro win today would have taken him above Berdych, he remains well clear of Tsonga though. This is also a big boost for Del Potro in the race to London.
