Team Director Chris Adams has named a thirteen man squad for the Yorkshire Bank 40 game against the Essex Eagles this evening at the Ford County Ground.
Ricky Ponting and Azhar Mahmood are both named in the squad but Chris Tremlett is rested. .Tim Linley comes in for Jade Dernbach who is playing for England in the One Day series against New Zealand
The whole game is being broadcast by Sky Sports 2 with coverage getting underway at 16:30

Meaker proving today why he should play more one day stuff, very good at getting it full, straight and fast. But for the lack of a slip and a bad decision he would have had 3-39, as it was 1-39 from 8 overs at Chelmsford is a bloody good effort.

4 of the last 8 overs will need to come from the Brain or a Brain/Jewell combo. Both very expensive so far - yikes!

Bowling first was a stupid decision, the team is pretty weak bowling wise. This could end up being an absolute thrashing. Adams must be on fairly thin ice at the moment.

Every now and then Napier looks like a very good bowler, tonight he has been fantastic to be fair. Surrey, on the other hand, have been woeful.

You simply have to ask questions of Adams now. From signing Lewis, Keedy, Solanki and continuing with de Bruyn, messing Roy about, never settling on an opening pair and the seeming lack of coaching for both bowlers and batsmen. Now we've got Jordan showing what might have been at Sussex and we've just been utterly humiliated by Essex.

What I will say is Jewell showed today why he hasn't played much, looked completely out of his depth.

Carrot - that is a very fair summary of the state of the Surrey side. Overall I think the policy on signings has been bizarre. Having taken a punt on signing a young and very inexperienced captain, they swung to the opposite extreme with Lewis, Keedy and Solanki, all players who were close to or beyond their best before date. Meanwhile the Brain has become an honorary member of that club. Not a bad stop gap signing at the time, but he is one of too many at the fag end of his career.

All excellent points. This must be one of the worst Surrey squads in recent decades. And I can't imagine what that did to our run rate! Shameful week - first Dernbach, now this. Not a good time to be a Surrey supporter.
