The Telegraphs Lions drinking game..!

For those of us who are not lucky enough to be Down Under following the series, here are five drinking games to enjoy at home, as concocted by Telegraph Sport.*

1. ‘Here’s Jonny’: Whenever Australia’s rugby nemesis, Jonny Wilkinson, is mentioned, by commentators, players or anyone on the box, take a hearty swig of your drink and toast ‘absent friends’.

2. ‘16 years’: The last successful Lions series was in 1997 against South Africa – as we all know – so every time that campaign is referred to imbibe the value of three fingers and roar your loudest.


3. ‘Hoggy, Hoggy, Hoggy’: Stuart Hogg will turn 21 during the series and is the tourists’ youngest player. As such it’s his responsibility to look after the team’s cuddly lion mascot, Billy. Whenever the two are shown together swallow a dram of Scotch whisky after shouting the famous ‘Oggy, oggy, oggy’ chant, but slightly altering it to ‘Hoggy’. Clever, huh?

4. ‘Pitch invasion’: In homage to John North, George’s dad, who hopped over the advertising boards to celebrate his son’s match-winning try in Paris. If there is a streaker or clothed invader please gulp down five-digits’ worth of your chosen poison and run around the room manically.

5. ‘99’: Everyone must square up to the nearest person, down whatever is in their vessels and refill before draining once more if the rallying war cry – so famously coined by Lions legend Willie John McBride on the 1974 tour in South Africa – is uttered.

*Please drink responsibly and not as Jason ‘The Fun Bus’ Leonard would probably do.



Considering this is broadcast on sky sports you're likely to be off your rocker before the pre match garbage is finished on rule 1. alone.

You'd have no liver left on this one alone.

So what happens if you were to push Billy though a meat grinder anyway?

I'd certainly be tempted to offload him somewhere where he'd never be found in one piece again if I was charged with such silliness on a Adult Male Lion's tour.

But I'll bet Lions are always ready for such contingencies and always have a closet full of effing Billy stand-ins?

If someone keeps up to date on Billy etiquette, maybe they'd let me know the details on what happens in those situations where he might get lost on purpose?
