If you had to choose a current professional golfer to make various shots who would you pick?
Here are my choices:

The long straight drive - Lee Westwood
The long iron to the green - Ernie Els
The 100 yard pitch - Steve Stricker
The chip around the green - Paul Lawrie
The bunker shot - Luke Donald
The must make 10 feet downhill putt- Tiger Woods
The miracle escape shot - Phil Mickelson

Laugh That's a good one! TW for the long, straight drive! Be still my aching sides.

the statistics can be misleading navy, he's been one of the best drivers around this year

I wouldn't bet my life on him finding the fairway with a driver in his hand. How many times has the played this year and on what courses? I'd hardly call Augusta, for example, a great test of driving accuracy.

Tiger is actually worse than the driving stats suggest. hes brilliant with his stinger 3 and 5 woods so this is hiding how bad he actually is with driver in hand (tho i agree he hit it very well at augusta)

sometimes Tiger is so long and straight that he finds trouble that other players simply can't reach, or runs out of fairway on dog-legs. the stats don't reflect this.

should the lay-up qualify as one of these shot types? if so i'd like to nominate Furyk/Poulter. they always leave themselves a perfect yardage for 3rd shots into par 5's or long par 4's.

Where is NIne CHins on driving distance these days? I don't think he was ever the longest on tour, and I doubt he's even up there with Quiros, Garrigus, Johnson etc.

i was at the deutsche bank last year and was spectating from where the players tee shots on the par 5 2nd hole were landing. Tiger was the longest and the only player i seen to have an iron into the green, dustin johnson at least 10 yards behind him. harrington was sneaky long but still well behind both. bubba didnt clear the bunker.

an isolated example but in this case Tiger had the best drive of everyone.

Ranked 30th, down from 28th this week. I could believe there might be one or two who creep past because he runs out of fairway etc, but not 29.

in terms of power i think Tiger has an extra gear in reserve that only gets used in special situations. i don't know if any other player can produce a 300 yard 3 wood from the fairway, or toweringly high long irons to clear trees. my point being that when Tiger fully unleashes one he is longer than anybody.

This as usual has turned into a Tiger debate. I don't see any lists yet.

The fifty-foot putt, triple-breaker, downhill with the Ryder Cup on the line?
Poulter.

I'll go for Boo Weekley on the long, straight drive.
Agree about the long iron for Els, and Stricker with the wedge.
Chip? Woods - he holes more than any mortal has a right to.
Bunker: Donald.
Putt: Woods.
Miracle escape? Seve.

Drive - Westwood
Long iron - Woods or Garcia
100 yard pitch - Donald
Chip - Woods
Bunker shot - Els
Downhill, fast braking, must-make 10 footer - Woods or Poulter
Miracle escape shot - Mickleson (but not 100% convinced with this one...)

Seve is immortal . . . . .
If I can't have Seve, I'll have the 21-y-o Jose Maria. He can do the putting also.

The snap hook out of the trees - Bubba Watson. This is a shot I need to master (pardon the pun).
