Worst Oscar nominations ?????

Remember back in the day Ann Margret getting an Oscar nomination for Tommy............Don't get me wrong she looked good covered in beans and chocolat but WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any other shockers??........................Obviously Hanks for Forrest Gump is probably the worst Oscar win..I mean any one of us could have played that part......some without acting judging by their posting record!!.........(Joke)

I thought the same about Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs.

The first bad nomination I thought of was A Few Good Men, a nothing film built around the Colonel's outburst in court.

Some from 2000 & later: Silver Linings Playbook, Inception, The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, The Departed, Finding Neverland, Mystic River, Master and Commander, Gangs of New York, Gladiator, Chocolat. Wouldn't say any were really poor films, but none really rose above mediocre, got the sense with (eg) Mystic River that it was a cynical factory-made-for-the-Oscars film.

I enjoyed Gangs of New York..but I like the rest of your choices..........

Certainly snobbery involved in Oscar nominations....If Streep starred in a porn film she'd be up for one.

I personally think the Departed was excellent

My biggest bug-bear is when subtitled films get bags of Oscars.....How can you tell If someone is a good actor when you are looking at the subtitles and can't tell how he is pronouncing his lines...

No idea what I would have had in their places, just named films I thought were underserving of plaudits.

Just seen that The Sixth Sense was nominated for Best Picture.

Astonishing.

I thought Tom Hanks was good in Forrest Gump.

I can't believe Titanic won the outrageous amount of awards that it did. Same with Lord of The Rings (or should be Bored of The Rings).

On more recent events, how Hugh Jackman didn't win for Les Mis was astonishing.

I think it was Guy Pearce (thank you for the spelling) you know. Either way I have the illusion that Jackman is a great guy from somewhere. It must be propaganda.

I know plenty of guys that have done a fair bit with whales in their time.
