New Zealand v England, Wellington, 2nd Test Thread

First topic message reminder :

England successfully made a great escape in Dunedin, after being 293 behind in the first innings, leaving the series 0-0 with 2 to play. England will take heart from that, New Zealand probably will as well after bowling England out for 167. Wellington is expected to have more swing than Dunedin, and be more suited to the fast bowlers. The weather looks fine for the first 3 days, it's day 4 and 5 that will likely be interrupted by the weather. Both teams are expected to be unchanged. Starts at 21:30 GMT tonight.

Roakey.. If the rain doesn't come and then we lose because they threw it away I wouldn't be happy. Sensible play needed.

The weather means this will almost certainly be a draw, unless the pitch looks a lot harder to bat on against our bowlers. Bell and KP need to pick up the pace.

It's all starting a bit wrong,

I was uncomfortable will all the assumptions that eng would just make 550 without much effort.. Seemed silly with engs recent batting travails. This shows the jitters are still there.

Makes you glad for yesterday. Just hope NZ aren't up for another 470 performance. We're handing them the initiative at the mo but hopefully the pitch will assist us this time,

Not to happy about this to be honest.

The pitch looks flat- But to score you need to whack it, which brings up problems. Bell couldnt get out of first gear and then went due to the pressure of not scoring. Englands pace is quicker therefore they wont need to work as hard..

Swann would have done the biz mind..

Priors not suited to this sort of stuff.He is not a good odi bat.

NZ are set up to there strengths. They are very good at restricting runs, and can score quick of quicks from the better sides..

Three boundaries in last couple of overs before lunch will put England in somewhat better spirits. But certainly NZ's session.

Yep Prior is a good test bat. But NZ have that medium pace style that is good at restricting scoring. I thought it might pose a problem. Probally totally wrong though.

Sobering up a bit, I would guess a poor morning performance from England. I always thought talk of 550 seemed very optimistic.

Also, and I hope you're reading Mysti, by all means listen to the forecast but we should have set out to play the opposition and not what the weather might be in two days' time.

But no matter , partnership was 83 at a good rate , Prior still there , 457/8

...best the game moves on quickly anyway. Can only win if the bowlers do their stuff well , so this score should be OK.
Be nice to get it up close to 500 but I don't want to be greedy...

All gone now so 465 it is ...really don't mind that ...if we can't bowl them out well south of that we are unlikely to get a win anyway.

Would have liked Prior to get 100 but well played him anyway clap

That worked out very well tbh.

I was wondering if the pitch was actually pretty tough to bat on or england were just messing up. There is clearly something there for the bolwers.. and if this game is over in 3- getting 3 wickets of them has given us a shot., But the follow on is a neccesity
