Who Do You Think "Could" Have Played James Bond?

Just a bit of fun this. Bond has always been a British icon, and several actors have been linked with the role. I often think about "what might have been" had different actors been cast in the role.

So who could have played the role? As I was brought up on a diet of 70s Bond onwards, I can really only contribute from the 80s onwards.

My choices for when Moore gave up were as follows:

Lewis Collins (bit of a "Daniel Craig" style Bond I reckon).
Ian Ogilvy (Return of the Saint so there's a bit of a "Moore connection"). He would have been suave.

Leftfield choice: Martin Shaw (provided he lost the Professionals perm haircut)

When Dalton jacked it in there was really only one choice of Brosnan, so I move onto when he gave up. Daniel Craig was a bit of a unusual choice but he has worked extremely well, bringing the necessary toughness to the role the previous incumbant lacked. However, there were a couple of others that could have been cast.

Clive Owen. Certainly looked the part and in many eyes he would have been perfect. Claims never to have been offered the role, and this is likely - his diary was very full around that time anyway. Think he could have worked well.

Leftfield choice? Dougray Scott. He's suave enough, can be a bit nasty and looked like he could handle himself at that time. Time, however has not been kind - he's not aged well!

What are your thoughts?

PS Bond should NOT be played by an American...

I think Henry Cavill would've been ideal, but he's going to be Superman instead.

When I saw your name I was expecting Tommy Bowe!

I genuinely feel that Rufus just looks like a man with a vicious streak in him which is something Bond has only had twice before (Craig and Dalton)

Idris Elba would make a fresh change

Ralph Feinnes in the 90's when Brosnan got it.

What about Vinny Jones, Would suit him right down to the ground but saying that his acting skills aren't all that are they?

On Rufus Sewell, not Chris Farley.....

Sewell is a quality actor and would be a brilliant Bond.

Desmond Llewelyn in his younger days I reckon. Not bad as Q though.

I am known for telling people that I should be the next Bond.

The reaction is normally to laugh hysterically.

With Daniel Craig signed up for a few more though, I think I've missed my window.

Oh well, there's other fish in the sea. "I'm Batman..."

Joseph Fiennes I think would have been good.
