The GOAT Competition
First topic message reminder :
Good Evening all,
You might have noticed that the GOAT section has been removed for the time being.
I am sure you will all agree that this has been a great feature over the last month and a huge thank you to MtotheC (and competitor champions)for running a very good event.
Unfortunately, after an indepth investigation, we have discovered widespread skulduggery when it has come to the voting of several ties.
Due to this, we have temporarily suspended the competition whilst we discuss what to do next. Needless to say, the member has received a permanent ban and this will not happen again.
Feel free to leave suggestions below but we are looking at specific ties and the possibility of rerunning these.
For the time being though, I would like to thank you all for your continued contributions to these threads - service will resume shortly

The irony in this unnecessary bout of name calling is that diggers appears to be the sharpest tool in this bag... withdraw the name calling and perhaps this debate has some merit and interest in this context...otherwise it's just shameful...milkyboy wrote:Which unfortunately proves diggers point.

How come a Mod goes and calls a poster a tool, and then turns round and tells posters to stop the name calling...

Folk have been banned for less. Has been done countless times but Robinson had ample opportunites to fight Burley, for wahtever reason he chose not to, lets not pretend the planets were never aligned. Rumours a fight was nearly signed until Robinson sat at ringside to watch Burley destroy someone in the first round at which point he made his famous comment that "i'm too pretty to fight Charley Burley"
Also fairly well documented, although uncorroborated that Robinson would only agree to a three fight series with him as long as Charley agreed to throw the first fight. He refused this offer as he refused point blank to engage in fixed fights. Robinson has enough on his ledger to not have this count against him too much but please don't pretend the fight was never viable, if indeed Burley was operating at middle it was solely through the lack of opportunities at welter and nothing else.

How can you bring yourself to call him by that ridiculous name Mac? It's like referring to Paul Ince as "the Guv'nor"

Not really, his real name is Eldrick Tont Woods. I would suggest Tiger is a lot less ridiculous than Edrick or Tont.

What Tiger does is no worse than that which Brazilian footballers have been doing for generations. "Hulk" being the most ridiculous of the lot.

Hmmm, ghosty calls diggers a tool... Rather gratuitously. I write a post supporting diggers point, and then at the end of it, call the person i've just agreed with, a tool.
Could it be you missing the irony barragon? I'll put it Down to your post being early morning rather than suggest you're more lump hammer than Stanley knife, yourself. (Insert random smiley to imply lightheartedness of post)
I agree on the insults, unnecessary unless they're directed at the spaghetti schizo gang

Agree with the sentiments re. the insults. The nature of this process is it will bring out a certain degree of tribalism with folk wanting to see their own favourites or sporting heroes progress. If people disagree or we see our favourites eliminated would like to think we could accept this with maturity and good grace.

Maturity and good grace? On an Internet forum? It's people with such decency like you rowley that restore my faith in humanity. Good on you and keep dreaming the dream, its the only way to make your vision a reality.

Re: The GOAT Competition
I think maturity and good grace are essential on here, along with understanding and forgiveness of those less able than yourself to express their thoughts eloquently.
So that said how long are Imperial and Milky going to be banned for after the horrific insults they hurled at me
And to be fair if Milky is banned he can actually get his tools out and do a few of the scores of DIY jobs around Milky Towers instead of constantly procrastinating like the work shy slacker he is.

Nine Chins, Baldy or Charisma Bypass are far more appropriate. I don't think I've ever lowered myself to type the laughable self given name he's adopted.

He'd have to be a monumental bell end to actually use it as his name though.
Who is next? Hedgehog Montgomery, Giraffe Donald, Duck Poulter, Capybara Watson, Tortoise Furyk?
Of all the stupid American names that golfers have that is the worst.
I suppose he's trying to sound edgy, dynamic, aggressive, prowling, growling, just sounds like a truly tw@tish name to call yourself. Perhaps some Emperial Englishman should just shoot him with a blunderbus.

That is a stupid name Diggers , I agree, , though at least it is some sort of acronym of his actual, official name.

Tis true. The quality of most of the answers makes it a bit of an open goal as well.
I also like the way the guy who looks like Jermaine out of Flight of the Conchords is held up as the fount of all knowledge yet all he's doing is sitting in a corner looking on Wikipedia.

I'm not sure. Armstrong seems okay but the other bloke is a bit of a knob. I do get the feeling it might be fixed though. The number of times in the final round they get 1 is certainly unusual.
Harmless enough tele though I have to say I prefer the excitement of Tipping Point which I believe is on at 4pm but which the wife and I watch on catch up as she doesn't get home from work until about 5.
Some of the contestants on that are totally brain dead mind you.
Classic example, matey moo was asked who first brought potatoes to England and he answered Ireland!!!! Made me think of you actually. Well the internet you, obviously I don't know the real thing.
Now about this GOAT malarky. Who was it that you'd put in your top 5?

Re: The GOAT Competition
Dear Forum Members,
It is with regret that after last week's investigations, the Forum Administration and Moderation team have to announce that due to [a] certain member[s] actions, we have banned in excess of 10 user accounts for vote rigging on the G.O.A.T polls.
Our investigations revealed that all results from the Round 1 Wildcard group and Round 2 onwards may have been affected by the scandalous acts of said individual[s]. Therefore it has been decided that to maintain the integrity of this process, all these results have been cancelled.
There have been calls to investigate individual poll results and re-running suspected matches, however this would require considerable effort on our part, and would be unlikely to adequately appease some members of this Forum who would prefer an entirely transparent outcome.
The process run by MtotheC, was 8 days of voting away from completion, with 1 Last 16 fixture, 4 Quarter-finals, 2 Semi-finals and the Final to be played out.
Our revised programme will be as follows:
- Round 2 will consist of 8 groups of 4. The top two from each group will progress from each in the same manner of Round 1. Two polls will be run each day. Though this is a condensed format, we hope that the quality of debate had up to now will be maintained. (R2 = 4 days)
- The Last 16 will consist of 4 groups of 4, with the top two from each group will progressing. Two polls will be run each day.(L16 = 2 days)
- The Last 8 will consist of 2 groups of 4, with top two progressing. Two polls will be run on a single day. (L8 = 1 day)
- The Semi Final's will consist of 2 one on one matches (Semi Final's = 1 day)
-The Final will be a straight one on one match up for the v2 GOAT crown (Final = 1 day)
(Total process = 9 days)
The voting process will continue as originally planned using the poll system, however checks will take place daily on new/duplicate accounts, alternative voting systems although more robust are not feasible with the site functionality and time available to the team running the tournament.
Voting will close at 10pm on each day and a count of the votes noted and verified.
We hope that you will all support the decision of the Administration and Moderation teams in this matter, and look forward to seeing this process completed in the manner which was set out to achieve.
We look forward to seeing the high standard that was set throughout the GOAT by those that contributed.
Regards,
Site Admin & Mod teams
