Alexander v Brook POSTPONED again Empty Alaxander too soon for Brook.

Post by ONETWOFOREVER Fri 01 Feb 2013, 9:06 pm

I have thought about this fight for a long time since it was made and just can't see Alexander loosing to Brook. I think that he will play with Brook. Furthermore I do not think that Brook is close to being ready for a slickster like Alex.

Brook needs a few more fights stateside against similer type opposition.

Can't agree in any way, Alexander is good but is being really overrated by some on here imo

Outboxed and then gave up against Bradley, robbed a gatekeeper to world level in Kotelnik and almost got knocked out by a fighter who he should have boxed rings around (due to their styles) in Matthysse

Brook is 26 I think and if he is going to be outboxed by Alexander then he will never make it. There aren't many fighters who box like Alexander so I doubt that waiting around will be beneficial in any way

The great thing about this fight is that there are question marks over both fighters. Alexander has never really set the world on fire and I'm not sure whether he'll cope with Brooks speed.

However the only time Brook has stepped up a level he looked in a lot of trouble during the last four rounds, he has never fought in an atmosphere like this and will need to show great mental strength to ignore the fans during the build up and the fight.

Brook via SD for me, but wouldn't be surprised to see Alexander steal close decision.

I feel the time is right for Brook. He's been a pro now for almost 8 years and had 29 fights. As stated above, waiting doesn't benefit him in anyway.

Alexander is beatable as Bradley, Kotelnik and Matthysse have all proved and if Brook has sorted his stamina issues I think he can win this fight.

However, if the Alexander that fought Maidana shows up it could be an entirely different outcome. It really is a pick em fight.......I'll stay sitting on my fence till closer fight night l think.

Saw a picture of Brook the other day and he looked completely ripped. I just hope he hasnt overtrained for this fight come fight night.

I have a feeling tho that Alexander will just be a bit to slick for him. Alexander will probably nullify Brook make a boring contest of it and take the win on points.

Brook has always looked huge at welterweight imo and I thin that his body (which does look very powerful) is probably the reason he has stamina problems

I would probably say that brook is the most unorthodox and slickest (Bradley probably better) opponent Alexander has fought and won't be as easy for Alexnader to coast like a shot Bailey or a lightwelter who can be outboxed in Maidana

Think Alexander is still living off his demolition of Urango. Brook will take this.

two fighters who have been over sold on potential i think. hopefully at least one of them steps it up a level on fight night and finally justifies some of the the hype they have received. alexander looked better against maidana than i have seen him perform before, so i would make him favourite. this is brooks chance to prove himself though. if he cant beat alexander comfortably then i hope sky tone it down a bit in future fights for him.

I would have liked Brook to have had a few more fights with some live contendors like Maidana, Mike Jones, Aydin for example before stepping in with alexander to be as thoroughly prepared as possible to bridge the gap to world level. Is Carson Jones, Saldivia and Matthew Hatton really the right kind of guys to get him to that level.
I think the stamina issue is still the big question mark, but aside from that he has the attributes to give him self a real chance.

Agree with the above - 50/50 fight and both unproven at the highest level. Alexander has been in with much better quality, but has a couple of defeats and should probably have two more. Interesting that some people think Devon has no power though - his KO of Urango showed me he's no Paulie!

Very true in the respect that Alexander has no power. He does indeed hit harder than The Magic Man. However, Urango was never really THAT great, and his style was tailor made for Alexander. Alexander has quick combinations and is southpaw which will cause problems for most brawler types.

Brook appears to be a slick boxer-puncher. How he fares at World Level will be interesting.

Alexander struggles with power (Matthysee) and he also struggles with boxers (Kotelnik/Bradley).

I see a close fight with Brook pulling off the upset through pressure and boxing ability.

What channel is this on by the way??

More likely because he is a top ranked contender, who has looked good in his career so far, taking on a champion who has already lost to Tim Bradley and struggled badly with Kotelnik and Matthysse.

Are you denigrating his chances because he is not Amir Khan?

I'm denigrating is chances because he's not good enough. Alexander is the better fighter. The only live opponent Kel has fought was Jones and look what Jones did in his next fight. Hugely over-rated imo.

And Jones is a totally different fighter to Alexander so not really comparable.

Be like suggesting Khan would struggle with Kotelnik because he got blasted out by Prescott. What in fact happened was Khan put on a masterclass.

Which slick or even semi slick boxer has he fought? I'm talking about level of opposition. The one semi world class boxer (who in fact was crud) he fought gave him issues.

And Kotelnik was a step-up for Khan.

The point is some fighters just struggle with certain types of other fighters. Khan struggles with pressure/swarmer fighters and always will (unless Hill turns him around) but excels against boxers because he has a better skill set.

Devon has struggled with pressure (Bradley), boxer (Kotelnik) and puncher (Matthysse). We only know Brook struggles against one of those.

I'm not saying he's a shoe-in, though I think he'll squeak it, but writing him off because he struggled (mainly gassing) against a totally different style fighter is pretty baseless.

Khan was a hot prospect and was fast tracked because he had the talent. Kel has been a pro longer than Khan and he's only having his first shot at the big time? It says a lot about his ability and how his handlers view him. That he has been matched extra carefully says a lot.

So disappointing. Good "pick 'em" fights are few and far between in boxing these days. It's rubbish when you lose one because of an injury.

You have shown a remarkable capacity to rub people up the wrong way since your recent arrival. When one person takes ill of a poster it can be a clash of personalities, when nigh on everyone on here does the same you can understand us looking as to why we might jump to the conclusion that it perhaps says something about your debating style.

Happens to the best of us Sean, I spent a weekend in bleeding Dussledorf when Haye pulled out of his first fight with Wladimir. You're not a proper fan until you've jizzed a load of money up the wall on a cancelled fight. On the plus side for you though I have heard Detroit is a charming city
