Apologies for being a pedant but? like so many attributed quotes to historical figures, sadly I don't think the stable quote is actually welliington's. Rather it was said about him- referring to his Irish origins.

Thank you gents. I am actually a lot less nationalistic than I used to be (thank goodness you all say). I think though a bit of patriotism is healthy as long as it doesnt get taken to the extreme. In all fairness to some of the students on my course a couple of the English ones have learned a fair bit of Welsh just out of love for learning other languages and learning a bit of culture. They get a lot of respect off me for that

And Sha the best place to go by far is south Pembrokeshire. Country roads, seaside towns, beaches you wouldnt want to be anywhere else in the world if Wales actually saw sunlight. If your into walking though give the Brecon Beacons a crack. Cardiff is good though for the cosmo side of things and you even get to have a pint with me if your lucky

Love snowdonia, great hiking. Had a friend with a holiday home in New Quay, on Cardigan Bay, too – that was a lovely little place and an enjoyable drive to get there. Cardiff has never appealed though, basically an even worse version of Newcastle.

The parts I've been to (Swansea and Cardiff) basically look like a run down 60's high street. Maybe I was looking in the wrong places.

I would say you were. Every place is parts like that, I've been to parts of Manchester that look like they're still stuck in the 60s. Doesn't mean its an awful place, as with everywhere parts of Wales are fantastic.

Same with Luton you come into the town and its horrible but if you go into hertfordshire...its lovely.
