Urgent help needed please.

Hi guys, I am having a discussion on a SA website regarding the ERC and how the moeny's are split from revenue to the Heieneken clubs.

We discussed it sometime last year, but too much trouble t searcn for it.

Does anyone have a link or info on how it is split please?

The H-cup Pot seams to be split into two seperate payments to the unions, one for taking part and another one for performance (after group stages)

Currently the participation split

"The would leave about €40 million or thereabouts in basic distributions, of which the IRFU, along with their Welsh and Scottish counterparts, receive about 13 per cent. This equates to approximately €5.2 million each. The Italians are understood to receive marginally less, around 11-12 per cent , equating to roughly €4.4 million.

breaking this pot down is appears that currently each Union recieves:
RFU = 25%
FRU = 25%
IRFU = 13%
WRU = 13%
SRU = 13%
FIR = 11%

The way I see it the French and English, will be wanting this changed from a Union based divide to a League based divide (6 teams from each league + H-cup and Almin winners). Currently the Pro 12 unions recieve 50% of the participation pot, I believe that the French and English will want to change this to 33.33%,

RFU = 33%
FRU = 33%
IRFU/WRU/SRU/FIR = 33% (and leave it to the Unions to decide how to divide this between themselves)

For the participation share this goes to the Unions, and the RFU divide it equally among the 12 clubs, FRU among thier 14 teams.

But they allow the clubs to keep the performance payments to themselves (this year Scarcens, Leicester Tigers, and Quins will all get a €450,000 bonus each, at least. 900.000 if they make the semi's).

IRFU and others I believe keep both participation and performance payments, and divide them among their teams.

Another way of putting it is that today the 12 Rabo clubs share 52% of the revenue, the 12 Aviva clubs share 24% and the 14 Top 14 clubs share 24%.

The PRL and LNR are looking for a distribution of revenue more in line with the number of participating clubs, with the PRL putting on the table the BT deal, which would generate enough from English home games only that everyone could get more while still having a split that better reflects the number of mouths to feed and the source of the revenue.

Just to understand ths correctly, you say the RFU splits this revenue to all 12 clubs, even though only half play in the Heieneken Cup?

Does this revenue come from one broadcast contract that encompasses both tournaments, Aviva as well as their share for the HC?

Revenue comes from all broadcast contracts and sponsorship , (UK, France Italy, overseas) all sold by the ERC for both H-cup and Almin.

It does not include anything for domestic leagues.

Domestic Unions own rights to Domestic leagues, but theyall handed the provision over to ERC for European touraments (this is now a bit part of the H-cup fallout) to sell the TV/sponsorship on thier combined behalf. (UK and Ireland. French,Italian and overseas broadcasters).

The total sold by the ERC is then divided each year as thus.

Cool, so essentially the teams that don't qualify for the HC earns a base payment, but don't stand a chance for performance bonusses as they aren't participating.

The teams that don't qualify for HC compete in the other ERC cup, the Amlin. I don't know, but it's reasonable to assume that there's performance bonuses for that as well, albeit smaller than HC. The financial prize for HC qualification also includes better gates, more TV exposure and hence better sponsorship.
