Big game time, semi final of the cup. I want us to play an expansive counter attacking game. We know that Mole City will play several attacking players, its their nature. By playing this 4-3-3/4-5-1 with Alves and Alba in attacking roles we have enough to absorb their pressure then for the want of a better phrase, "pace abuse" them on the break.
Prieto, command your area, stay in communication with your defence, use the fullbacks and midfielders dropping deep to begin attacks with the wingers and the ball over the top as an option.
Hummels/Howedes, I want Hummels to be all over their main striker, give him no chance to turn and shoot, force him deeper into areas he struggles in, Howedes to be the one who cleans up and marks the second striker.
Zabaleta/Fuchs, force their winger wide, don’t let him inside. Use your head and don’t dive in. Let him dribble into no-man’s land, close down any crosses and occasionally support the wingers. Watch out for the ball over the top but also don’t be afraid to push the winger back.
Bigirimana, I want you to sit infront of the back four rather than track their AM. If he drops deep, let Kovacic pick him up, don’t allow space in behind you. If he’s running at you, cut him off. Help out the CB's when we're under pressure. When on the ball, look for Kovacic or Mkhitaryan. Need a real shift from you today.
Kovacic/Mkhitaryan, without the ball I want Kovacic to assist Bigirimana at DM and Mkhitaryan to be at CM, with the ball Kovacic becomes our deep lying playmaker. Look for the runs from Alves and Alba, and link with Mkhitaryan. Mkhitaryan to be our AM, get forward and be the link between Alves, Alba, Kovacic and Huntelaar. Be late arriving in the area to avoid being marked and give Alves/Alba another option.
Alves/Alba, when in possession, run at their defence, get crosses into the box for Huntelaar and also cut inside to shoot or pass. Swap wings occasionally to keep their fullbacks guessing. Link up with Mkhitaryan in the middle. Track back when out of possession and help the fullbacks, but as soon as we win the ball back get forward. Use your pace to hurt them.
Huntelaar, mark the CB. If they play deep, this will allow you to be as close to the goal as possible. Do not drop deep as this will render you ineffective. If they play a high line, stand offside. As soon as either Alves or Alba get down the wing with the ball you can use your instincts to ensure you're behind the ball as its crossed and be both onside and unmarked in the area. Be your usual ruthless self in the area.

If winning: Mkhitaryan off, Melo on. Melo an extra DM in our 4-5-1.
If drawing: Mkhitaryan off, Pjanic on. More natural AM with the ability to change the 4-5-1 to 4-2-3-1 and push for the win.
If losing: Mkhitaryan and Fuchs off, Walcott and Berbatov on. Change to 3-4-3. Push for goals.

Team Talk: We're up against Marky's lot, No body will be giving up a chance against them so it's time to prove them wrong and show them we can compete. Expecting 3-4-3/3-5-2- from them so going 4-5-1 to block their routes
Weidenfeller: Watch for balls knocked in behind the defense come and clear or pick up and release quickly to one of the wide boys.
Defense: Sit deep as possible but not on the 18 yard box- Keeper will come sweep if in behind
Srna: Expect to see Alba coming towards you today weather it's overlapping or as a Wing back, so force him inside towards the midfield, Capoue will come out if being double teamed.
Yanga Mbiwa: Stick to Huntelaar and make sure he doesn't get a yard of space to get a shot off, He's never going to be your for pace and make sure you atleast challenge in the air with him.
Marquinhos: You may be up against Walcott today or completely free, If your up against Theo don't let him knock the ball in behind you and keep tight to him don't let him turn and force him back out toward the midfield, If you free i want you to watch for Pjanic getting forward from midfield,
Balzaretti: Your may be up against Walcott or a Wing Back in Alves, if up against Theo force him down the line and make him cross it,If Alves doubles up then Capoue will come across to that side and help.
Capoue: I want you to get onto Kovacic and hassle him don't give him time on the ball to make an influence on the game, If he's not up the ball then sit deep and marshall infront of the defense and don't let them get the ball into Huntelaar's feet, If they come down either wing then go out and double team with the full backs
Cabaye: I want you to dictate the play today and link up with the midfield and get the ball into Llorente. When defending watch for Bigirimana getting forward.
Cazorla: Sit on Bigirimana and drift about him and give him the run about make him follow you everywhere, If he doesn't then look to make the play and look for wingers getting in behind the defense and play off Llorente.
Bruma: I want you to take on Alba presumably if he plays in a back 4 otherwise i want you to sit and let him go forwards and get them on the counter, Take them on with pace and trickery and whip the ball in for Llorente, Make runs in between full back and cb's in play a back 4
Niang: Your be up against Alves/Zabaleta so take them on with your strength and pace and look to get in behind them for Cazorla's through balls, don't be afraid to interchange if getting no luck down this wing
Llorente: Your a tank so back into the defenders and make sure they don't rest for a minute, If you get the ball into feet either lay off to Santi or hit it out wide and get in the box for the crosses, At Corners sit on their goalkeeper but don't foul him

Team talk:
The formation is styled on Barca. Very attacking FBs, a CM trio to control the ball and an attacking trio who keep moving.
After success at it last week, today we are targeting even more control of the ball in midfield through Pirlo and Ledesma in order to squeeze Bratwurst out of the game. Attack wise, we have will keep possession of the ball and play a patient build up. The attacking three will keep moving and stretch the defence, and keep options available for passes. The wingers will interchange to keep the full backs guessing. Our full backs will bomb to overlap and provide attacking width.
Defensively, we press high up the pitch and win the ball back as early as possible. The midfield three will stay deeper, sitting in front of the CBs to protect them and to cover for the attacking mindset of our full backs. Vidic will stay tight to Mandzukic.
GK Stand tall, come for crosses that are close to you making them need to aim crosses further out. Distribute short as much as possible. Be on your toes for balls in behind the defence and sweep them up.
FBs Today you are attackers as much as defenders. When you are back, pick up you full back and keep them facing away from goal. But as soon as you have the opportunity to attack, do it! Overlap the wide attackers, allowing them to drift into inside forward positions, and get crosses low and hard across the face of the keeper.
CBs – Vidic will pick up Mandzukic (or the main striker if Mandzukic not playing). Ivanovic will pick up any second striker, or play spare. He will sweep up loose balls and watch for runners from midfield.
Mids –. All three will sit slightly deeper to dictate the tempo and to protect the defence and allow the FBs to bomb on. Masch will be the enforcer breaking up attacks and making a nuisance of himself. Pirlo and Ledesma will support Masch defensively. They will look to get on the ball and retain possession. Patience is key, and when a chance arises, we look to capitalise. Ledesma, any realistic chance of a shot on goal, have a go.
Wide attackers – You will play free-ish roles today. Starting wide, you can drift inside into the channel between CB and FB. Get on the ball and run at the defence, turn them inside and out. The FBs will overlap, so move inside and create space for them. Defensively, pressurise the ball as soon as we lose it
Central attacker – focal point of the attack. Play off the shoulder and look to get in behind. When the ball is out wide, the ball will be coming in low and fast so look to get on the end of it. Defensively, pressurise the ball as soon as we lose it.

Team Talk: Big game today lads, we're going to go out and look to nullify there threat down the middle, and hurt them with our wingplay. Arteta is the one in midfield to pull the strings, Van Ginkel adds youth, Bender will be more restricted. The defence will play narrow, stopping them going through us in defence, but full backs can bomb on in attack. In attack the wingers will stay high, pinning there full backs back, and we will look to score many goals. Big chance to impress me today lads, lets go out and get a big win on the board!
Team Instructions:
Horn - Command the back four today. Anything floated up in the air, you come and get it. They will take shots from long range, so be ready, nothing will beat you from there if you keep your concentration. Look to distribute long to Mandzukic or through the full backs.
Carvajal and Schmelzer - Today in defence, you guys get narrow, as we expect no wingers. Don't let them get through you. Beware of the full backs bombing on however. When you get the ball off Adler, feed Arteta/Van Ginkel, who will get us started in attacks. You have license to bomb forward at every opportunity, and cause overlaps, allowing the wingers to cut inside.
Subotic and Luiz - The back four need to be in a good straight line, Subotic is our leader at the back and should control this. Luiz you play on the cover today, your best role. Subotic go and win headers. If they play two up top, pick up a man each. Luiz listen to me now, you do not go roaming leaving us short at the back. Get it? Good.
Bender, Van Ginkel and Arteta - Big roles for you three today. Bender if they play a CAM, you drop a little deeper onto him, and cover that. You are the more defensive, the lynchpin, you sit back and allow the rest to attack. Van Ginkel you are providing the youth, and energy to the operation. You have free reign to make late bursts into the box in attack, but in defence get around as well. Arteta you look to make things tick, by getting it wide.
Sterling and Gaitan - With the Full backs overlapping you, you have license to cut inside when on your starting flanks. That way you have either the full back for a cross, or shots from yourselves. Mix it up. They have attacking full backs, but I want you two to stay high up the pitch at all times. Do not follow them back. If they go, we create a mismatch and we use that to our advantage. If they don't, we nullify a big part of there attack.
Mandzukic - Big role for you today and you play it amazingly well. If we have to go long quickly, we hit you. You must hold the ball up, so it allows us to relieve some pressure. When holding it up, look to hit Areta or the wingers. We will look to get crosses in, you are a great header of the ball, so look to pinch us some goals to win us the game.

Manager’s note: Cup final day, but I want to treat this like any other game. They will have some very strong attacking players but so will we. We also have a strong defence and are playing with some good defensive midfield cover. Playing a 4-3-2-1 system, with the aim of outnumbering them in the middle of the park. Our system is designed to frustrate them, 4-5-1 without the ball but when we get possession, turns into a 4-3-2-1 with Walcott and Rodriguez to support Lukaku as much as possible.
Based on previous history, I’d expect Under Brescia’s team to contain: Perin in goal, Ivanovic – Hummels – Marquinhos – Baines as the back four. A midfield to contain any two of the three from Marchisio, Mascherano and Pirlo, or even all three. Draxler to be a part of the attack with Robben and Lewandowski.
Prieto, command your area, expect the unexpected, stay alert for long shots and stay in communication with your defence throughout. When we have the ball, look for the wingers and Lukaku, if not the CM’s. You played in the semi final so inexperience shouldn’t be an issue.
Zabaleta/Alba, we need you to forego your attacking instincts today, and use your experience and pace to limit the impact of the Brescia wingers. Force the wingers outside. Robben is at his most dangerous when he cuts inside onto his left foot, so only let him go outside. Do not show them inside. Force them wide and then stop them crossing the ball. Stay as a flat back four without the ball, as we have no need to be caught out on the counter attack.
Howedes/Vidic, if they play Lewandowski with Draxler in behind, I want Vidic to stick to Lewandowski throughout, bully him and beat him to every header. Lewandowski is a great centre forward, but he wont like being up against someone bigger than him. Howedes to sit as the second CB, double up on Lewandowski if nothing else to do, but watch for the runs of Draxler. If they play two up top, Howedes to mark the second striker (Villa or Locadia) throughout similarly to Vidic on Lewandowski, leave the AM to our DM’s.
Mkhitaryan/Romeu/Kovacic, play as a CM trio, whichever combo of Marchisio/Mascherano/Pirlo plays we will not be at a numerical disadvantage. Romeu to sit as our DM, don’t track the AM unless he enters your area. If Draxler is the AM and bombs forward, follow him into the area, however if the AM is Marchisio, when he drops deep let him drop deep, and hold your position. Kovacic to be the deep lying playmaker, but without the ball I want you to be a second DM. This is a role you’ve played well IRL for Inter Milan, so I expect no issues. With the ball, look for the runs of our wingers behind their fullbacks, play the ball over the top and down the channels into the space. Help out Romeu with combating the Brescia midfield and the wingers if they manage to cut inside. Mkhitaryan to be our box to box midfielder, without the ball I want you to track Pirlo if he plays, don’t let him settle on the ball, and when you dispossess him you’ll already be in an advanced position. But with the ball, you’re the only one allowed to get forward. Become our AM and link the play between the wingers and Lukaku, create a 4-2-3-1 formation but drop back when we lose possession.
Walcott/Rodriguez, pace to burn, I want you two to play a little deeper, be the wingers in a 4-5-1 without the ball, double up on the Brescia wingers and allow their fullbacks to get forward. As soon as we win the ball back, there will be plenty of space in behind their fullbacks, and Ivanovic and Baines are great fullbacks but they are not going to outpace you. Look for the ball played down the channel, when you get there, Lukaku will be there as well as the opposite winger getting into the area. If you cut inside, Hummels will either be doubling up on Lukaku leaving space, or go for you leaving Lukaku one on one with Marquinhos. Use the numbers to our advantage.
Lukaku, we know you’re up against Hummels and Marquinhos unless they try something different. I want you to mark Marquinhos, you have the pace and power to trouble him significantly, when Rodriguez and Walcott are forward I want you to hang around in the area, beat their defenders to the ball in the air or on the floor. Once you’re in that position, up to you to score. Without the ball, be our target man, look to run into space for the occasional long pass, hold up the ball and wait for Walcott/Rodriguez to join you.
