He got injured in November. I think he has played something like 11 out of their 22 league games. He's hardly a long term injury victim Laugh

It's okay though as I would have been looking for something on top of Pirlo.

I think you have an over-inflated sense of Cabaye's worth. Pirlo is a better player, as is Montolivo, yet because Cabaye's TM value is more you're expecting us to pay that difference...I doubt either myself or Olly would be willing to pay you for an inferior player Wink

Whilst I agree Pirlo is the better player, Montolivo is definately not Shocked

If it wasn't for his recent injury, there would have been a rush for Cabaye. He would make any midfield in the Premier League or Italy, with the exception of Juve.

We'll agree to disagree though

Indeed we will. Cabaye looked great because 1) he's very good, and 2) Tiote was playing exceptionally well alongside him, freeing Cabaye up for his playmaking show. It's no co-incidence that neither player plays particularly well without the other, they're like Petit-Vieira.

That doesn't make sense. Cabaye had continued playing exactly the same this season as he had last up until his injury, whereas Tiote has been worse all season, with and without Cabaye alongside him

It's no coincidence that his time out through injury (and Ben Arfa's as well tbf) is the same time as Newcastle have plummeted down the table

Newcastle have had a pretty bad time with injuries this season (Coloccini, Cabaye, Ben Arfa all missing chunks of it), plus Ba and Cisse just couldn't play together and the fact the have no depth to there squad means they have plummeted down the table.

Why they didnt spend in the summer whilst they had the chance is baffling

I disagree Afro. Tiote was actually okay at the start of the season, while Cabaye wasn't the same player he was last year. When Cabaye went down injured Tiote lost form badly, but neither player has been a patch on last year. Only Ba and Ben Arfa have been really.

I haven't seen Cabaye play any worse, plus in the Euros he was good as well. He has just missed half the season, that is his main problem.

For me, their only plus point this season has been Santon.

That tells us all you haven't watched many games. Newcastle fans are tearing their hair out about Santon, how badly he's played this season. Any Newcastle fan will tell you they want Mike Williamson gone, Santon gone, and some players signed.

That is garbage. I will go and find you more than a handful of blogs on how Santon has performed lately and how they are pleased with him

I'll do the same for the opposite. They hate him, he's playing badly and he's a right-footed LB. They reckon he's more of a winger than a full-back, which of course he was in his very early days at Inter.

From the limited amount I have seen of Newcastle this season (5-6 games including the 2 against us) Santon seems to be very good going forward but a little suspect in defence.

Of course it doesn't help that he plays alongside that donkey Williamson

Sorry to bring this over to your page btw Olly Laugh

Santon's great going forward, but his team's in the midst of a relagation battle, and you need Nigel Winterburns in that situation, not Cafus.

To say the fans are pulling their hair out over him is just plain wrong.

Last season, they were trying to get rid. This season, they are actually keen to keep him.

If he is not a positive for Newcastle this season over last, then I'll gladly hang up my scouting hat as I am clearly seeing things wrong

Afro you're not wrong, he's miles better than he was last season. He was one of the PL's worst RBs last season.

LB appears to suit him better, but he's still not solid at the back, which is what Newcastle need.

All those posts were from the same blog...they clearly like him Laugh

From this site:
Re: Mathieu Debuchy in Demba Ba out at Newcastle
by GeordieFalcon on Thu Jan 03, 2013 11:55 am

.Have we not got any bloomin talent coming through from the North East...god it infuriates me...the passion for football up here and we have Taylor and Shola as the sole representatives...

Anyway...in a way Ba going is good...because every transfer window that clause was gonna cause an unsettling fog over the team.
There was talk that Cisse and Ba dont actually like each other anyway.

Cisse will be the main man now not stuck out wide......and looked delighted when he scored. Give him a run as the main striker now...

Williamson is the next one to be replaced....hes attrocious. And im still not happy with Santon at LB...a right footer...

So this post is wrong then. They don't want him gone, there are just some who don't want a right footer on the left.

And to suggest I don't watch many games, and then tell me that he has in fact been better this season than last...

I think I'll leave it as I am not even sure what you are arguing anymore

I can't find where I read all that, so I concede defeat. Well debated sir notworthy

£8.5m lawyers offer was far more than he's really worth though.

Looking at the Newcastle thread on here, their are ones like Geordie Falcon who think he is atrocious, whilst every single time that someone has selected their best XI, they have Santon at LB, Geordie Falcon included Laugh

Yeah, I'd have sold for £8.5m, especially given who I think he is replacing him with...

I was thinking Nagatomo v Santon. Better LB, better RB and can play DM as well.

And £0.1m gained

Thing is, Zebs is an Italian team, so I think he should have kept Santon if he's replacing him with a Jap.
