Football semi finals 02/09/12

So, here we are. The other All Ireland Football semi final is about to start. The Dubs Minors won their match this afternoon against Kerry 3-12 to 1-10 and will face Meath on the 23rd of September. Can the grown ups do the same by sending Mayo on their way? I'm not so sure....It's also been confirmed that Alan Brogan will not play this afternoon. He's been replaced by Ciáran Kilkenny.

Sounds like a cracking atmosphere at Croke Park (yes I'm having to rely on the radio coverage). So off we go!

Mayo on the attack, but they're nervous. Dubs have the first point.

The game is opening up now. 0-06 to 0-04 after 25 minutes.

This is proving to be a very exciting game. The dubs have crawled back now to one point behind...

Mayo now leading 8 points to 5...but the Dubs just get a point so they're not far behind...

Oh booger it's 10 points to 6 now...and we're coming up to half time..

Three minutes added on to the first half...

0-11 0-06 and Mayo have been the better team so far.

Uh-oh it's not even HT yet and the Dubs are in deep doo-doo. It's all Mayo so far...

0-12 0-06 and the Dubs are all over the place.

Right second half...Bernie needs to wake up and concentrate, Cullen off for the other Brogan.

Dblin start going for goals...well saved by the Mayo goalie.

Ah balls...O'Sullivan gives away an easy free and Mayo restore their 6 point lead. Immediately followed by some off-the-ball crap. Cluxton furious with the team. Dubs no.17 elbowed a Mayo player who's now got a bloody nose. Referee has shown a yellow to a Mayo fella and the wrong Dubs player. Ridiculous! Two minutes stoppage and the ref gets the wrong man! More bother now...this is going to end in a brawl.

It's 0-14 to 0-07 after a Mayo free. This game's turned ugly all of a sudden.

Well saved by Cluxton, but the Dubs are really up against it....brilliant passge of play from them but Alan B. misses the goal when they really could've done with it. This is one exciting game....especially if you're a Mayo supporter. They've just got two points in 20 seconds!

0-16 0-07 The Dubs are really up shoite creek!

Mayo get another point. They're way ahead in quality as well as points. 0-17 to 0-08. What the hell is happening to Dublin?!

After the earlier Cluxton free, a goal chance missed gives the Dubs another point. 0-17 to 0-09. Alan B. off again now. He shouldn't have played really. Mayo have another blood sub as well. The Dubs discipline lets them down and Mayo get a free, but Flynn redeems them getting the ball away and another badly needed point. Still seven points between them. The Dubs need to produce a superb comeback but they need goals!

What a performance from Mayo. They'll lose the final though, as usual.

Cluxton is incredibly overrated. His kickouts have been woeful. Best keeper in the country me arse. Mayo have been dominant all over, midfield especially, I have been a bit surprised as I expected Dublin to show something which they haven't. Difference between them and the likes of say Cork (using us as Dublin play more like us as opposed to Donegal) is Dublin don't have enough quality point scorers if they have trouble winning the ball. They play a type of defensive system but not like Donegal. A shame to see the Dubs losing final will be a white wash if they do.


Losing the matchups and they don't have enough firepower, nous or midfield dominance to come back I think. Will be 6 after this free.

ooh Bernie fouled there and the Dubs get a free. Could've done with a goal there, but there's six points in it. Could the Dubs produce a Leinster-esque comeback?

Now lads! The Dubs have finally woken up and they're making progress...five points in it after another free. Keep up the pressure lads!

Happened before in a Mayo v Dublin game, Dublin bottled that one. Decent game, last weeks trumped it, even if it was low scoring enough. Don't know who to shout for really.

There's ten minutes left but there'll be quite a bit of extra time. O'Gara sends it wide for the Dubs. They could've done with that.

Clash of heads. Looks nasty with the Mayo player coming off worst, but the Dubs get the free.

There's going to be an awful lot of stoppage time.

3/4 minutes. If there's a score or two in it, watch the GAA try and save Dublin's ass and get themselves another payday.

This game has suddenly taken an exciting turn...the Dubs are just four points behind now after Bernie kicks the free.

ARGH! The Dubs could've got a goal then, but the excellent Mayo defence stops them. Cluxton takes a free. There's another injury, but no one's stopping now.

Three points in it! COME ON!

Oh dear. I was predicting Mayo to choke in the final but they might do it in the semi's. Hope they hold out.

Great save but Dublin are on a role.

AAAARGH what a save from Clarke!! Bernie could've got that goal, but the Dubs have to make do with reducing the deficit to two points. Come on Dubs, get a bleedin' goal!!!

That was possibly the worst finish I have seen, Mayo are running out of steam, they could lose this now.

I think the Dubs screamed with joy and the Mayo fans simultaneously screamed in terror when they heard the amount of added time.

Just three points in it. Thomond - I think there'll be a fair bit of extra time because there's been a few stoppages. Can't see the Dubs catching up unless they can score a spectacular goal...
