A Sequel too far Empty A Sequel too far

Post by Guest Tue 26 Jun 2012, 9:19 pm

Films I don’t think they should have made a sequel to:

The Matrix

Omnipotent Neo turns out not to be omnipotent after all.

The Transporter

They tried to give Frank Martin a softer side. They shouldn’t have bothered.

Rambo

He didn’t make it in the book. He made it too far in the films.

Speed

First Sandra Bullock is trapped on a speeding bus, then on a speeding boat. How unlucky can one person get?

Jaws

Loved the first movie but can't remember anything about the others. There's got to be a reason for that.

What films do you consider to be a sequel too far?

Spiderman 3

The first Spiderman was really well done, the second was an improvement but then the third was just mental, too many villains, weird character development. Just no where near the same quality of the first two films.

All of the sequels after Batman (1989)

I don't rate any of the Batman sequels after this Batman (I'm not including the Nolan films). They're far too cartoonish and by Batman and Robin had lost all credibility.

Taken 2 - Liam Neeson is that good he get's 'Taken' himself. Why oh why. Potential title, Taken again?

Terminator 3/Salvation. Both dreadful.

X-men 3/Wolverine Origins. Both hoorendous after X1 and X2 were both brilliant.

Predator 2/Aliens v Predators. Should of left it alone at 1.

SharkSoul, it's funny you should mention Taken 2 because I almost included it into my list. Unlike yourself, I quite liked the first movie but I've got a - to quote Peter Parker - spidey sense about this one. Obviously the movie hasn't been released yet but the whole idea seems a bit preposterous.

I completely forgot about Predator 2 and I completely agree with you. It took Arnie and a nuclear device to destroy the first Predator. Danny Glover's gonna need a bit more help.

Compared to the first 2, they are terrible well 3 is anyway as I haven't watched Salvation. 3 was all about action and special FX. I can't even remember what happened in 3 apart from the motorway scene whilst 1 and 2 actually had engrossing stories. That's says it all for me.

"Sarah Connor?"
"Yees?"
*Bang*

Anyway, in response to the OP, Saw. An obvious one really, and I understand it was just a money making thing, but the story just got ridiculous.

The Blair Witch was another one, and Paranormal Activity. These type of things should only be done once, but money talks I guess.

Also, I found out a few days back that Jumanji has a sequel. Anyone seen it?

Regarding the Terminator movies, as they've been mentioned, I loved the second film on its first viewing, but found it increasingly annoying the more times I watched it. Firstly, you have Sarah Connor's laborious monologue. It actually makes the film quite depressing. Of course, it could be argued that the idea of humanity’s obliteration is pretty miserable - and that would be a fair point; but how on Earth are you going to excuse Sarah Connor's son in the film?

There isn't. The author of the Jumanji book wrote another book similar to Jumanji called Zathura that did mention Jumanji and referenced it. The Zathura book was then made into a film without acknowledging the Jumanji link.

Police Acadamy.

What did they make, 7 in the end?

First couple were good, went downhill after that,(although I did like 5, Assignment Miami Beach).

Try all the Saw films. Each ending tried to outdo the other.

Robocop sequels were dreadful.

Smokin Aces 2. Just Poopie.

Dusk til Dawn sequels. As above.

28 Weeks Later. Totally ruined 28 Days Later for me.

Under Siege 2. Just shockingly Poopie!

MIB 2. Just for the nod your head song!

American Pie the Wedding/Band Camp. Why?!?!?!

The wedding in theory was a decent one to have, could have done it better, all the ones since (apart from reunion) are the why? Although occasionally Beta House is a good laugh to watch

Robocop is an interesting case. Frank Miller's involvement in both sequels gave rise to a lot of excitement, but I agree the end products were not great. Some good ideas though (especially in Robocop 2 I thought), but poorly executed/finished. Despite directing one of the best sequels of all time (The Empire Strikes Back), Irvin Kershner wasn't able to recapture that lightning-in-a-bottle.

I believe that Miller went on to say that the final film had become far removed from his original treatment or script, leaving someone else to convert his source material into a graphic novel. I haven't read it, but heard that even this is pretty rubbish though (as well as unfilmable, semi-filling in some of the missing backstory here). I don't know what excuses can be made for Robocop 3.

Having said that, there was a mini-series of comics published by Dark Horse of "Robocop v The Terminator", written by Frank Miller with art from Walt Simonson I think. This was pretty good, although it's a story that suits comic book form rather than live action film.

And now of course, the time has come for a reboot of Paul Verhoeven's original film... Although I can't for the life of me remember the names of director/stars (no one in the mega-league anyway).

Superman 3 & 4. No need for Superman 4 at all. Also Airplane 2, Spiderman 3, Lake Placid 2 and 3, Teen Wolf 2 and Titanic 2!!!

Band camp had to be done I wanted to know where the girls put their flutes. angel

Blade 1 and 2 were great, but 3 was shocking.

Star Wars Phantom Menace was awful after the initial 3 stories.

Karate Kid 2 was poor, but 1 and 3 were great, the next karate kid should not of been made ever!

Porkies 2 was disappointing, in number 1 we had Lassie and the peeping tom shower scene, but in number 2 all we had was a load of willies at the end. Who wants to see that? Erm

I don't agree with what has been said about the Terminator films, I loved all of them.

We could discuss Rocky 5 though, 3 and 4 were awesome especially the music, but 5 jesus christ, why did they bother, lol.

The worst one ever made though? Flesh Gordon 2 by a mile, number one was fantastic for a 13 year old but 2 really broke my heart it was crap and there was barely anything worth looking at, that 90 mins of my life i wont get back. Cry

I can't believe I and others forgot Rocky V, it's pretty amazing that they took quite a simple concept and stretched into 4 memorable and good films, only the first is arguably artistically great, but I still love the others, yet they messed up horribly on the fifth one.

I think it was made up by Rocky Balboa which was a good film.

1 and 2 were cult films, very different to the third. If you watched number 3 again anytime soon you might enjoy it more than you previously did (I found that was the case with me).

Agree with the RocoCop follow-ups. It's a shame Verhoeven isn't into doing sequels.

Revenge of the Nerds 2 - Nerds in Paradise. Very possibly one odf the worst films I have ever seen. The first one had a certain charm about it but it's no surprise that Anthony Edwards wanted as little to do with this as possible. He was contracted to it but managed to get himself mostly written out of it. Good move.
