Our pack has a number of players who can make yards, with Burger, Sheridan, Stevens and Crane all capable of making lots of yards.

Tactics

We will play a structured game built around our massive carrying pack, the strength of our set piece and getting our backline into space.

- Attack the scrum as a weapon - and call when we can. Look to really get the shove on.

- Use Wilkinson's boot to attack our strong lineout with Hanks, Horwill and Johnson. We will relentlessly target the opposition's throws.

- Massive line-breakers right throughout the side that will look to tire down Sarries defence. We will use our big carriers consistently to tire down Sarries.
The likes of Afoa, Trev and Naqelevuki used off the shoulder crashing through the opposition defence.

- Armitage is the man charged with reaching the breakdown first and look to turnover possession. We will always look to attack quickly off turnover ball. With Armitage and BdP, we feel our breakdown play will be crucial today.

- Box kicks from Peel and up and unders from Wilkinson to give the opposition problems in the air.
Lightning back three to really get the chase on.

- Look to play attacking rugby in the backs, getting the likes of Kahui and Nacewa on the ball when we can.

- Our back three are encouraged to do what they do best - counter attacking and running the ball back. If isolated all have good kicking games, but the counter is what we ask them to look for.

- Wilkinson to kick all penalites.

Tactics

In order to ensure adequate rest and to maximise this opportunity to rotate our squad, we shall not be utilising players in the 7s tournament where possible. We are missing some carriers in the forwards so the aim will be to work as a group with mauls and picks then get the ball out to our talented backs as soon as possible. McCaw and Burger will ensure at least one of them makes every breakdown, then the aim will be get our ball back safely rather than swiftly until an opportunity out wide presents itself due to numbers being sucked into the mauls and rucks we are going to force. As soon as this occurs our backrow will speed the ball as much as possible and we will utilise Leonard, Geraghty and C. Smith's excellent distribution to allow C. Smith, S. Smith, Geraghty, Monye and Wyles to execute their respective running games. When breaks are made, C. Smith and the backrow should be backing them up and we wil aim to keep the ball alive or being recycled as swiftly as possible once the backs are moving. Monye and Wyles will be coming off their wings and picking lines off the centres. It doesn't matter if we miss tackles in defence, we have the backrow and back 3 to cover for this and McCaw is excellent at punishing isolated carriers. The combined kicking options of 9, 10 and 12 will also allow us to switch to a chip/kick attack game if the original plan falters, and Hougaard and Parra can let us play a tighter game off the bench, backed up by the mean forwards we have there like Smit and Botha. We will also kick to the corner where possible to use our effective lineout and will apply the same maul then spin tactics off of that.

Set pieces- our scrum and lineout are both strong and we will hope to at least win our own ball. Our front row could be more experienced but there is plenty of power behind them, and when ball is good we will execute backrow moves off the scrum in opponent territory using Joubert's carrying to make yards then McCaw's link-work to spread/recycle the ball wide quickly missing out 9.

Defence- we will use a blitz defence to pressurise Exeter and to prevent them from putting pressure on Geraghty on the back-foot. The 10-12 channel looks vulnerable, but as a club our line is excellent and C. Smith will replace Barritt as its coordinator. Mullan's job is to guard the 10-12 channel on the sweep when possible to prevent any exploitation of it.

Peel is an excellent 9 in form, but if anyone can pressurise him off the start of moves, it's McCaw and Burger. Make Peel's life hell and Wilkinson is not the best player at moving a back-line and we can kill attacks early on and our rush will increase the chance of turnovers for us.

Breakdown- With Burger and McCaw in play we should be able to edge the breakdown. They will slow ball as much as possible and make sure our ball is safe then strike when an opportunity presents and henceforth maximise speed of ball.

Attack- Once the ball is in the backs, run anything that is on and pass the ball around to manipulate gaps. Our midfield and wings are excellent attacking runners in different ways and all the infield backs are good passers. Someone will make a break and Burger, McCaw and C. Smith are experts at backing these up to keep the move alive. Switches will force even more gaps

-The key point is to use quick feet and sleight of hand not power. We will not overpower the opposition but we can dance around them. Wilkinson won't miss tackles but if we draw him in with Geraghty then gaps will appear.

Kicking- With good options at 9, 10 and 12 there should be less pressure on kickers out of hand. Aim for the corners so we can use our lineout. If Exeter tries to blitz us to stop our running game, chip them as Monye is a big lad and Conrad is a good chaser. Wilkinson may beat any one of our players in a kicking duel but with 3 and Wyles and Monye kick defending we will be fine.

Forwards- We may lack a few strong carriers but our forwards will work as a unit. Their job is not to individually make carries in the tight 5 but rather to work as a swarm and force Exeter to commit players. I don't want players going in alone in the tight 5 ever.

Subs- We have some strong subs here- Smit and Botha can add guts and work to our pack, York covers 6 and 8 and is energetic and a good footballer increasing our link options. Parra can add control to the game, and Hougaard is a steady 10 to go with him if throwing the ball around fails. Mitchell should run tired legs ragged if we need him.

The only planned changes are to bring Parra on at 9 and Smit at 2 with 20-15 to go, and Drew Mitchell for a run-out in the last 10 at least. Other changes should only occur if we need to change approach or players are exhausted, injured or badly matched up. When Parra comes on, we will keep the same gameplan, but with increased kicking for the lines.

- Evans to attack the gainline and play the game at a high tempo and look to use the likes of North , Fofana , Short and AAC.

- Use the lineout as a wepon with Robson snapping at the throw on our on ball to enable quick ball and putting pressure on the Wuss throw.

- Plenty of top grafters in our pack (Kvesic , Kohn , Gill , Grey and JJ) these will allow Robshaw to do what he does best a pop up in the loose and link play togeather.

- Bring Farrell on with 20 minutes to go to for Short with Daley going to wing and Farrell at 13 to give us a split field kicking option

- Massive line-breakers right throughout the side that will look to tire down Sarries defence. We will use our big carriers consistently to tire down Sarries.
The likes of Afoa, Trev and Naqelevuki used off the shoulder crashing through the opposition defence.

- Armitage is the man charged with reaching the breakdown first and look to turnover possession. We will always look to attack quickly off turnover ball. With Armitage and BdP, we feel our breakdown play will be crucial today.

- Box kicks from Peel and up and unders from Wilkinson to give the opposition problems in the air.
Lightning back three to really get the chase on.

- Look to play attacking rugby in the backs, getting the likes of Kahui and Nacewa on the ball when we can.

Falcons Director of Rugby Sam Flux has named a much changed team with a wide range of new faces since the end of the last domestic season. Flux was quoted saying in a press conference "this is a new oppurtunity for the club to build some important foundations with the up and coming stars and proven quality players that we have managed to bring to this club. We have given the chance for some new boys to put their hands up for starting berths come the new season, and allowed some of last seasons players have to a prolonged rest in some cases, as their chance to prove their worth will come around in the following weeks."

- Evans to attack the gainline and play the game at a high tempo and look to use the likes of North , Fofana , Short and AAC.

- Use the lineout as a wepon with Robson snapping at the throw on our on ball to enable quick ball and putting pressure on the Wuss throw.

- Plenty of top grafters in our pack (Kvesic , Kohn , Gill , Grey and JJ) these will allow Robshaw to do what he does best a pop up in the loose and link play togeather.

- Bring Farrell on with 20 minutes to go to for Short with Daley going to wing and Farrell at 13 to give us a split field kicking option

Leicester Tigers 32-31 Leinster Rugby

See an even scrum battle. Tigers with the stronger front row scrummagers but it’s a massive Leinster engine room. Tigers will do more with their own ball of the lineout. Back row battle edges to the Irish. Breakdown battle keenly fought but more carrying and linking from Leinster. Halfbacks one a piece with Youngs and Sexton the stand outs. Midfield goes to Tigers but back 3 to Leinster. Good impact from both benches.

Cracking game on show with the midfield of Tigers levelling out the extra carrying of the Leinster backrow. Can’t see either side getting on top and this is decided by home advantage.

London Wasps 25-22 London Irish

See Mas getting more joy for Wasps at the scrum then Murray for Irish. Wentzel gives Wasps an edge in the air. Cracking backrow battle. Pocock will seal a few more turnovers but more carrying from Wasps. In the backs bit more control from the Wasps halfbacks but two very good sets of outside backs. Irish have great impact of the bench and can control the scrum in the final quarter.

Wasps will get a bit more control of the game through the set piece and halfbacks and should build a good enough lead to hold off Irish in the last quarter.

Ulster Rugby 25-21 Sale Sharks

Even scrum battle but Ulster with more at the lineout. More mobility from the Ulster front 5 will see them get through more work around the park. Advantage to Ulster man for man in the back row with Burger marked down for lack of form. Halfbacks are one a piece with the South Africans the star men. On name value Sale win the midfield but Fourie’s rating falling now in Japan (Not a mark down but will say I prefer JD at 13) and this sees it a lot closer. Wings go to Ulster but Miller the form fullback. Cruden and Kubs the best impact players but Ulster pretty solid from the bench.

Ulster at Ravenhill should get the better of the pack battle and have the players to take advantage.

Exeter Chiefs 26-20 Saracens

(Not sure but think Freshwater has retired Luke)
See the Chiefs front row getting an edge at the scrum especialy with a meaty engine room on show. Lineout fairly even but more from the Chiefs front 5 around the park. Interesting back row battle plenty of from for the Chiefs flanks but McCaw and Joubert give Sarries an extra bit of quality. Slight edge to Sarries which makes up for the extra mobility of the Chiefs front 5. Chiefs with a big advantage at halfback. In the backs Conrad Smith the star man on show but Chiefs with more on show overall. Slight defensive concerns for the Sarries 10-12 axis. Parra from the bench can offer a bit more control but not much difference elsewhere from the bench.

Good clean pack battle but the Chiefs halfbacks will dictate the pace of the game for me.

Harlequins 29-25 Worcester Warriors

Even battle at scrum time but Robson sees Quins have a big say at the lineout. Little bit more for Quins at the breakdown but its a powerful back row for Worcester that should have no problem getting over the gain line. Halfbacks go to Worcester but Quins aren’t weak here. In the backlines not sure on Nonu at 13 particularly on current form and think a lot of good attacking play could stop in midfield for Worcester. More attacking threat from the Quins back line. No advantage from the bench for either side really.

Think at home with more in the backs Quins take this one.

Newcastle Falcons 20-22 Stormers

Good scrum battle but Bekker should get an edge in the lineout for the Stormers. In the backrows Burger marked down for lack of form but great form for the Stormers on the flanks sees them edge it a little. Halfbacks are 1 a piece but the Saffas have more in the midfield area. Back 3 fairly even on current form. On the bench Brussow could be a turnover machine but the Stormers have serious physicality to bring in from the bench.

The Stormers have that bit more in the pack and midfield and should frustrate the Falcons.

Northampton Saints 23-22 Gloucester

Gloucester win the tight 5 contest, Saints win the backrow. Both sides play very similarly (as in most of the match-ups), but Saints probably better equipped for this style, with backs that are slightly better at quick play off of the 9 and 10 than Gloucester's. This leads to a narrow win. Not a good day for kickers, with both Sexton and Burns being prone to the occasional off-day from the tee. Blitz defence leads to a few mistakes in defence and that leads to the breaks for the tries in the end. 3 tries for Saints to 2 for Gloucester, who kick a lot better when Yachvilli takes over the duties.

Leicester Tigers 31-26 Leinster Rugby

Tries- Youngs, O'Connor, Wade O'Driscoll, O'Brien
Conversions- Flood, O'Connor Sexton x 2
Penalties- O'Connor x 3, Barnes Sexton x 3, Madigan

For me this match is very close everywhere but Tigers edge every single unit and aspect and sees them good. Some great players in the Leinster ranks, but the combos of Youngs-Flood and JOC-Manu and the strength of that backrow means that they won't be able to shine. Leicester will boss the scrum with a frankly superior front 3. Leinster will certainly score tries against that backline but there is no way that JOC, Wade and Kearney don't score more for Leicester. Both teams also have class off of the bench, but Tigers just look like the better side. 3 tries to two victory.

Both sides go out trying to play some rugby, but conditions let them down somewhat (not great weather in London atm). 2 tries apiece but neither side can really take advantage and come out on top, so a draw. As in most matches, the back-row battle is fascinating, almost impossible to call. Both sides comfortably make their kicks, and the territory game is intriguing, but Morne plays that a bit better backed up by Leigh and MB. The Wasps backs look more interesting but with Morne at 10, they don't quite get to utilise it and Irish make up for it in the tight.

Ulster Rugby 25-26 Sale Sharks

Ulster are at home, and that gives them an advantage, and I like their young backline. Close battle in the back row is edged by Ulster, very close in the tight 5 where neither team is fantastic but both solid. Just won there by Sale in the lineouts and Ulster in the scrums. Ulster lead most of the game through Pienaar's game management, even though they struggle to break down Sale's defence, and Sale hang in there with a measured display from Goosen. Then in the last 20, Cruden comes on and ups the pace and JD and Fourie start to get their opposite numbers in their pocket. Too much power for the Ulster backs to handle and Sale go ahead with 5 to go. Jackson misses a winning dropgoal under intense pressure.

Harlequins 39-34 Worcester Warriors

Tries- North, Ashley-Cooper, Fofana, Robshaw Beale x2, Genia, Marler,

Worcester put in a good start and look the better team in the first half- Quins just win in the pack but it's close and despite being out of position Nonu makes some big holes in a defensively weak centre partnership as does Morgan and Beale. Quins get more ball but hit a defensive brick wall, and whilst Carter and Evans both do a great job of the running the game, Genia and Beale start to break the Quins line. Break away tries from North and AAC keep Quins in it, and Robshaw and Kvesic hit stride after a half-time talk to dominate possession. With more ball, Fofana and Daly's strengths come through and Quins have too much.

Stormers have a stronger pack but not by that much, and Newcastle still make parity in the scrums and probably lineouts too. I don't know the Stormers' back row that well so I can't really comment there (apart from Schalk who probably gets yellow carded for trying to remove someone's eye sorry that was in poor taste). Very close battle in the backs too, with the midfield stronger for the Saffers but Newcastle with a better back 3 and (IMO) halfbacks. In the end the difference comes down to 3 things- Pienaar's kicking out of hand and from tee, the home advantage in the drizzle on a cool day in Newcastle, and Cory Jane whose class provides the winning try.

Northampton 34-28 Gloucester

Not much in the fron 5's with some good set piece options and strong carrying. Big step up in quality for Saints in the backrowwith a fantastic combo.

Yach brings a lot more at 9 but I prefer the Saints half back combo and with SBW outside Sexton kinda gives me the horn. Strong back 3's on show but Saints very strong and will take this one.

Wasps - Irish

I think Wasps would get nudge on both set piece with Dermody not great these days and irish lacking a strong lineout leader. AMAZING back rows on show, Kaino lacks form but will hold rating for a bit longer for me.

Little more in the Wasps halfbacks. Pull has transformed his midfield and it has a great balance and will shade the Wasps unit. Not much in the back 3's. Very very tight game but the Wasps front 5 give them a strong set piece platform that Irish don't have enough to counter.

Ulster 21-18 Sale

Think Ulster will get a nudge on in the set piece and a little edge around the backrow and halfbacks. Great centre combo for Sharks but not enough to turn a strong Ulster unit over.

Exeter 22-20 Saracens

Think Exeter will get a little front 5 edge on with a strong outfit (think freshwater has retired though Luke) McCaw stands out in the backrow and with a good 6/8 will drive Sarries forward.

Know little of Leonard tbh so have to rate Exeter unit higher and similar in the centres with Sarries lacking a line breaking option which could harm them against such a physical Exeter side. Little bit too much for Exeter here.

Harlequins 30-29 Worcester

Not much in front 5's although Worcester get a little edge on in scrum and similar in the backrow. Robshaw in magic form though for Quins. Amazing backs on show from both sides but think Worcester just edge overall.

Great signings from both teams though and they look mustard.

Newcastle 16-24 Stormers

I really like Falcons front 5 and they may just edge here. After that it's one way traffic from a very strong Stromers side who totally dominate backrow and centres.

MIght have to consider playing Brits and Allen next game then

Summer Cup is all about trying combo's mate. You get nothing for winning it so no harm in trying new things out that can be used for next season.

Leicester Tigers 34-32 Leinster Rugby
Can see Tigers being matched up front here but having a bit more joy at the breakdown and in the loose with some very strong runners. Two set hb pairings with Sexton just in a little bit more form, only just, In the backs Tigers gain much advantage but will be interesting to see how Kearney copes with high balls from himself!! Tigers will edge this one. Big score.

London Wasps 24-21 London Irish
Wasps have the individuals in the pack but Mas and Parisse but Irish have a better set pack who will gain advantage at the lineout. Even at the breakdown but Wasps take the half backs with Dickson giving cleaner ball. Much much stronger Wasps backline who will cause problems in the league next season wins this for them. If Jenkins and Cooper had started this may have been different.

Close here in the front 5 but see Ulster gaining more advantage when it comes to the breakdown. Much more set Ulster half back pairing but do like the look of Goosen and he will get Sale playing well. Can see that getting Davies over the gainline and quick ball for the outside backs. Very close game which I will just edge to Sale with much more impact off the bench.

Exeter Chiefs 30-25 Saracens
May need to look at the tactics limit guys
Front row and 2nd row go to Exeter here with Hanks and Horwill causing issues in the lineouts. Armitage vs McCaw at the moment will be a good battle however ON FORM I'm giving it to Armitage. Sarries win the battle at 8. Much more set hb's for Chiefs with Sarries testing their youngster against a master. More power in the outside backs for Chiefs but Sarries will claw some back with their bench.

Harlequins 34-30 Worcester Warriors
Well Warriors have built a strong front row here but will struggle with the form of the Quins 4-8 who will dominate the breakdown. Morgan and Haskell will gain ground but will not want to get isolated. Halbacks just go to Worcester with Genia on top form again. Beale will make inroads, not sure about Nonu at 13 to be honest but he will stop North cutting inside. Feel Quins have a bit more power in the outside backs. Another big score match here.

Newcastle Falcons 18-21 Stormers
Upfront Falcons will win this battle I feel with only the Stormer's backrow causing Falcons some issues. Think that it's in the backs that the Stormers will nick this game with more quality and young Heathcote (however much I rate him) will struggle against Steyn. Pienaar will put up a good fight and Brussow will cause major issues. Win for the Stormers backline here.

Saints 24-20 Glaws
Love both front fives. Perhaps a slight edge to Saints but not much. I think back row goes to Saints with some serious world class players there. Once again edge towards to the Saints half backs. Think they have enough in their back five and on the bench to see it through

A real good up front here, but the slightly better form in the Glaws front five edges it, the backrow is another good contest but the serious quality from the Saints will win that battle. Can see a good game out back with two different styles of play on show. In overall ability Glos steal it, but the quality in particular spots for Saints manages to keep them in touch and their good bench nicks it at the death.

Leicester Tigers 30 -28 Leinster Rugby
A very even game here IMO. Leinster aren't no slouches but the Tigers will push them all the way. A cheeky tight battle will be edged by Leinster, their front row has been massive in the past in comparison to the Tiggers. In the backrow it is pretty much even, but the battles between the packs will be even with Tigers being more dominant in the tight than the loose. Leinster have the form HB's but you can't deny the class of the tigers pairing and what a battle there in midfield. This is another even fight as Manu and JOC haven't been setting the world alight recently whereas BOD has been good since his return but lacks match fitness. For me the difference in this one is the ability of the Tigers back three to make something out of nothing, whereas the Leinster backthree are solid there is a slight lack of pace against Wade and Benjamin. The final knell in the coffin will be Leicester’s bench, as it has players that could walk into any other starting line up of any team in the league.

Wasps have some big names in their pack but they can't quite cope with the massive Irish dominance at the set pieces, but they will see more joy around the park and in open play where Parisse and Dus wreak havoc with ball in hand. This advantage at the breakdown gives Wasps quality ball for their backline to score tries. It would be a different prospect for Irish if Cooper had started has he could've sparked some magic but the Wasps will take this one.

Ulster Rugby 23 - 16 Sale Sharks
Unfortunately for Sale I can see the Ulster boys getting the upper hand up front, with Sheridan lacking form and Stevens not in the best form recently. The sheer pshycality of the Ulster oack will bully Sale depsite the efforts of Crane and Burger, although Kubs and Mulipola could've put up a better fight if they had started. With the arm chair ride that the Ulster HBs recieve it allows Jackson time to dictate his backs. Although Sale are stronger in the backs, the limited amount of ball their backs recieve hurts them in this game.

Two very even packs in terms of ability; however in regards to form I would have to give it Exe just. As they have players which are in a rich vein of form. The controlling halfbacks of Exe will dictate play and put their dangerous centres and backthree into space. However the youthful exuberance of the Sarries backline lead by Smith aren't easily pushed over and fight back late on. But the Chiefs should win this one.

The warriors have good players in their pack, and manage to compete but the overall form of the Quins pack is a determining factor to this game, as they get joy in all aspects of their play. I like the balance of the Warriors backrow however going backwards I think it would struggle. The dangerous backline of the Warriors will also struggle despite the form of Genia recently. The dominance of Quins allows Burgess and Evans to marshal their potent backline into telling positions and give North the opportunity to grab a brace on his debut.
