Sports and politics Empty Sports and politics

Just saw that Bjorn, Casey, Monty et al are playing in some show tournament in Bahrain prior to the F1. Keeping in mind what's going on in Bahrain at the moment, should they rather stay away as protest against the regime? And if they did so, would that mean theys should also boycott the Masters? Or should we just keep sports and politic seperate. After all nobody has any problem playing in China. Or should we disinguish between official tournaments and money-talks-pro-ams?

Greedy sods prostituting their skills for a quick buck.
Could say the same about the F1 drivers. I hope the teams will decide not to go and then the golfers would look a bit stoopid.

I am not sure I understand the situation in Bahrain enough to comment but it is hard to see how sporting events put on for those in power or who are very wealthy can help the situation. It now looks like the F1 will go ahead which is no surprise given that Bahrain pays one of the highest fees to Bernie for holding a race.

Although I am unsure whether he still gets the fee should the race be cancelled in certain scenario's?

None of them need the money. Pretty poor IMO. Individual choice but ought to expect some flak.

I hate seeing the words sports and politics together , ruined a few Olympics in the 80's with boycotts. That said it can be a powerful tool I guess.
I don't think the GP should go ahead but I don't think Ecclestone has a single moral fibre in his dwarfish body. If you cut him open you'd see a pound sign running through him.
The golfers should simply be ashamed of themselves.
